Official TESV Speculation Thread #77

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 2:28 am

But we do know that they have some kind of plan for announcing it, going by what Todd said in the Eurogamer interview.
If they're just going to announce it through their site or blog, why haven't they done it yet? I think that's something a lot of us are wondering.

I think it's possible they'll use the VGAs. It may not be one of the games for today, but perhaps later down the road.
I do suggest that we hold onto a little doubt while we keep our eyes open.

Oh... my.... god! Bethesda's blog is down! "We had to take the blog down while performing some work" ..... Could it be....?

And I hope you guys are right about a VGA announcement. Or sooner. If it doesn't appear on their blog when I get it to load again :P

DISAPPOINTED ! :banghead:

I'd never heard of the VGAs or Spike before - did a quick search and it seems it's not available in the UK (Spike TV that is, not sure if the VGAs is on some other channel). Maybe this wouldn't be the biggest/best platform to announce it? Sorry for being the skunk at the picnic.

I disagree, the gaming press will be there. Announcements are generally made with the press in mind, rather than whether the entire world can see it live on telly. Otherwise nothing would ever get announced.

Last year they held a live stream of the show on the VGA website, so that everyone outside of the states could watch too. I think it was on their website anyway. Either way, I'm a Brit too, and I managed to watch it last year, so fret not!

That's good to know - however I looked at their website earlier today and it made my eyes go funny. Whoever designed that needs a good talking to....

As for the Bioware announcment, it was a very tiny teaser were you only see a guy in a tecno suit over a large city apparently wanting to gun down something there. And concluding with a ''be there on the VGA for the Annnouncment of our new game''. That would be fun if Bethesda will do something like that with a dude in a medieval armor :). And for those of you who don't know, VGA means Video Game Award.

I had a dream TES:V was released, I was pleased with the pc exclusive graphics settings, but I didnt get to the playing part before my parents found out I watch disney channel  (it was a dream I know they are not related.... or are they?)

Anyways, I dont think it'll be announced on Spike game awards w/e. Spike seems like it would be too narrow an audience for their huge announcement, but thats just me,.

To play the devil's advocate... Remember, any game that is announced at the VGAs is also immediately reported on by various gaming news sites around the internet, just as them announcing it on their blog would. So really, announcing it at the VGAs would only expand their audience.

I dunno, I don't think they'll announce it until 6 mon or less before the release. Otherwise people will get all pissy about why it's taking so long.

And even without a NDA, I doubt that the VAs could tell you anything worthwhile. It would seem like logically the LAST thing done would be recording the voices -- after the programming is done and the quests are scripted. Otherwise you'll have to keep re-recording lines when the quests change. FYI it seems from morrowind dialog that the entire main quest was something entirely different
Spoiler
[spoilers]The Emperor was sick, and his living heirs were supposed to be doppelgangers[\spoilers]
and had they been recording voices on that main quest, they'd have to re-do practically everything. In fact, I think the names of the heirs changed as well. I doubt anything on V is finalized as yet.

You can't mean Guillermo Del Toro do you? LINK?!?!

*loved Pan's Labyrinth*

Yes, I mean Del Toro sorry lack of sleep
http://www.forevergeek.com/2010/09/guillermo_del_toro_working_on_huge_games_with_thq/

anyway, the teaser trailer looked like a snippet of Mass Effect 3 and secondly, I actually am now having doubts they are going to announce Del Toro's game and instead it's going to be a major surprise.

Now that Bioware teased what it seems to be something related to Mass Effect. I doubt TESV will come out on VGA. This new thing by Bioware will get all attention.

But if they really announce, it's going to be a hell of a ride. 2 big RPG companies showing 2 big RPGs.

Given the mixed reception for FONV (which I think is awesome), I doubt they'll announce anything major soon. They'll let the air clear and make sure FONV is fully patched before announcing the next big thing, whatever that proves to be. First quarter of next year if we're lucky, probably more like summer to make a big splash at E3.

New Vegas isn't going to be anywhere near 100% patched for quite some time, and due to the fact that they just announced a DLC, and will likely announce more DLC after this one is released, interest in New Vegas will not be dying down anytime soon. They can't, and I'm confident they wont, wait until New Vegas is completely out of the minds of gamers. An announcement in the coming months is still as likely as ever and the release of some DLCs for New Vegas isn't going to stop them.

They don't need (or want) to wait until it's completely out of the minds of gamers, just *better* in the minds of gamers. I'm sure they'll have the major bugs fixed in the next few months, and I hope we'll get DLC throughout next year.

Actually, it pretty much looks like Mass Effect 3, the gun looks almost exactly like the mmm M-29 I think it is from ME:2

As for an Elder Scrolls Reveal they don't even half to worry about it, I don't think RPG's are in competition with each other...most people will buy the one or three RPG titles coming out in that year since lets face it, we all love RPG's.

Wait....I'll bet it's a new Shattered Steel perhaps oh well this is the wrong speculation thread for that :P.

there was a comment somewhere about a years DLC for FONV which would be similar to FO3's,
that being the case the DLC will have as much bearing on ESV announcements as it will on the next tour de france

DLC certainly won't affect an announcement, but the current stink in the air from FONV is going to have a clear a bit before Bethesda announces their next big thing. I know FONV is from another developer, but it's Bethesda's IP and their name is behind it. There are plenty of gamers who won't be in a receptive frame of mind until they work out the kinks in FONV.

Think about it though, despite all the turmoil over the bugs, they still went ahead and announced the first DLC pack for the game today. If they are confident that this turmoil wont effect sales of the DLC for the game causing all the turmoil in the first place, why would they hesitate to announce TES V because of it? Even if it was received negatively by some gamers, unlike the DLC that will be released in a month, TES V will be released at a far off point in the future, at such a time where people will have long forgotten about all of this.

Regardless of that, I really wish Bethesda would rename their publishing department. The mix ups are a pain in the rear and Bethesda Game Studios gets the beating for it, despite having nothing to do with it.

Anyway, yesterday, people here were excited over something. What's going on? Was Mass Effect 3 announced or something?
