Well then, because they're getting in on it so late it looks like Gamespy is making stuff up. Nothing was in the Eurogamer or any other article about that last bit. But whatever. Today is a good day.

EDIT: Machinema's article is probably the best of the lot. "Oh yeah Eurogamer's guy said this. That's it. Bye." None of this direct sequel stuff.

We've already known, since August, that Bethesda has been working on an unnamed game for two years, and we knew that Todd seemed to want to announce it relatively soon (He didn't say that, but he said he would be ready to show it off now [back in August] if he was forced too), so that last paragraph isn't news. You can view the source for yourself by reading the Eurogamer interview linked in the first post of this thread.

Someone contact this Chief Kristian West and ask him a few questions, please?
http://fixprotocol.org/fplevents/emea_2010/pictures/Kristian%20West%20Photo.jpg doesn't look like the kind of guy who would lie or make up rumours.

IMO all big websites like IGN/Gamespy etc knew about this the second we did. The amount of emails that each of the websites would have gotten asking about the game etc would have been immense. IMO they were just waiting to see if other websites picked it up.

Okay, this breaks around 5am when I'm on... I go to sleep. Return assuming it will have died down and everything will be calm but we are still in chaos!

I still hold on to my claim of shenanigans because every new "source" is just quoting the EuroGamer article. I'll say it again
Jerks who break their NDA better get fired :deal: if this is confirmed. Seriously. First we have sony russia leaking Mass Effect 3 on their twitter and now this.

Also, So many people in this thread :ahhh:

Gamespy did not get in late. Just check the 9th page of the previous thread... They were really fast together with pcgamer

IMO if the guy who wrote the eurogamer article is giving out his name, translating the article for all the other websites and talking about it openly I would guess that it has been planned by Bethesda. If he's lying theres a good chance he will get fired.

Ah. Well, I redact my first point but stand by my second. And third. They're making that last part up and machinema is the best.

Bethesda doesn't need to leak any type of information they have already release hints for us that they are working on something and the odds are high that its TESV. They will announce it when they are ready :brokencomputer:

the article from erogamer
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2010-11-23-rumour-elder-scrolls-5-in-the-works

Bethesda Game Studios is hard at work on the fifth game in the Elder Scrolls series, according to a new report.

It's a direct sequel to 2006's stonking great fantasy role-playing game Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Eurogamer Denmark said.

We've asked the author of the story, Eurogamer Denmark Editor-in-chief Kristian West, to translate into English for us (apparently Google doesn't do it justice). Here's what he said:

"This source not only confirmed that the game is in current production, but also spoke briefly about the content - with fantasy-sounding phrases like Dragon Lord, something with The Blades - and that voice acting for the characters in the game is currently happening in the weeks to follow.

"The same source confirmed, with official game documents in hand, that this will be the chronological sequel to what happened in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, which is the latest game in the now 16-years-old Elder Scrolls saga and by itself one of the better RPGs for PC and consoles.

"The sequel to Oblivion is coming, we can hereby confirm without hesitation. It's been a while since 2006, hasn't it?"

Rumour of an Elder Scrolls sequel has been rife since Oblivion's launch.

In August Bethesda Game Studios told Eurogamer the majority of its 90 or so staff are beavering away on the new game - thought to be a new Elder Scrolls title - which has been in development for two years.
Executive producer Todd Howard said in an interview with Eurogamer at QuakeCon that the studio's current title will be announced soon, but he couldn't say exactly when. "I have a sense but we're not ready even to talk about [the timing of the announcement], because it might change. I don't want to disappoint people.

"One thing I can say is that from when you first hear about it to when it's out will be the shortest it's been for us. It's pretty far along. When we show it, we want to show a lot, because there's a lot of game there to play right now.

"You know, if [global VP of PR and marketing] Pete Hines came in and said, 'I want you to show it,' I'd be like, 'Okay, I'm ready to show it.' But we've just decided for now not to yet."

Howard wouldn't be drawn on many details about the game, but said the technology was derived from the engine that powered Fallout 3, albeit with significant modifications.
"Fallout 3 technically does a lot more than Oblivion. The new stuff is an even bigger jump from that," he said.

"I can say it is on the existing platforms, which we're really happy with. You almost feel like you have a new console when you see the game."

Todd Howard said he was ready to announce it twice- in the Eurogamer interview and an EGM interview. Pete Hines, over a year ago also said that Todd's next game would be revealed when they were ready.

So, what's the holdup Pete?

But why would they plan to announce it through EuroGamer Denmark? That's not how Bethesda Game Studious works. They announce it on their website first. Then obviously the news sites link to that or the trailer etc. The way I see it. If he's lying he's a jerk. If he's telling the truth he's a even bigger jerk. And should get axed either way for spreading false rumors or for breaking the NDA.

Maybe they're trying to work on an epic trailer, and get some of the voice acting together for it.

Now, if all of this started because of a rumor... what happens when the game's announced?

On a side note:
This might be forcing Bethesda to leak some info, if so many people are misinformed and everything.

What famous voice actor do you think they'll blow their money on this time? In Oblivion it was Picard, and in Fallout 3 it was Qui-gon, who do you think's next?

This is true. They can't really release a trailer without voice acting of some sort, and if the article is true and they just started voice acting, then we won't see a trailer for a good long while. My guess is sometime in spring 2011, with a release in holiday season 2011.

Let me get this straight. You are unhappy that we finally have news? :P

If he's lying he's an epic troll getting publicity for eurogamer. If he's telling the truth chances are it was planned by Bethesda. For all we know Bethesda might have wanted to warm up the masses and get them ready for the big bang of an announcement.
