Official TESV Speculation Thread #80

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 6:06 am

http://twitter.com/GI_AndyMc/status/2446334590189568 I found this while reading about the latest rumor on gameinformer.com. Now, I know I know, we've all been burnt by tweets from Andy McNamara regarding future covers, and I'm not saying that this time it is TESV. But, it does seem pretty likely, and it does fit with current speculation regarding a possible announcement. For those of you who didn't follow the link, Andy said that the January GI cover is something no one is expecting, and the February cover is one that "you have been begging for 4ever."

So, I think that is possible that the Feb cover could be TESV, since we have been bugging GI about a possible cover forever, and it would be revealed in January, which many people here have speculated would be a likely revealing time, AND it would fit with the speculation that TESV could be announced at the VGAs, since they could announce it there, and then next month we find out all kinds of details about it. What do you guys and gals think?

Holy crap! Nice find, this could be it right here.

Hey guys did you hear about this rumor from Eurogamer? :P

...Methinks we'll be seeing posts like that for a few weeks to come. :(

Anyway, considering that I've been saying I expect them to announce it before March for months now, the February GI cover is the second to last GI cover that would fit into my timeframe, so I guess I have nothing to lose by putting hope into this new tweet. Still, considering past experiences with tweets like this, it's hard not to be skeptical.

Yeah I'm with you Antibody, I'm more skeptical than hopeful. I want to believe that this is the right one though.

sorry to be a killjoy, but the way he wrote "4ever" made me think of Theif 4 & Duke Nukem Forever...

But meh... I'll believe it when I see it.

Twitter does have a character limit, he may have been trying to cut down on the post.

I don't think it would be Duke Nukem because he would have just said forever, but Thief 4 is a possibility but is Thief even that big of series. I mean I dont hear of thousands of people asking for information on it like people do with TES.

I hope so man. I really do. Elder Scrolls 5 is the only game I am looking forward to at the moment.

I've also been on the "February cover" boat for some time now, but remember the DA2 cover? We were all dead sure it was TESV based on the fact that fantasy fans would love it (and I did). Remember to beware opinion myopia. Half-Life 3/2 episode 3 and TESV are both high up there for people, but there is certainly more. I'm not saying it's impossible, in fact based on the February idea it seems fairly likely, but still. Beware the overanaylsis of Tweets, as Antibody says.

Or ... the '4' could be referring to the number of years we've been waiting for TESV?

Surprised to see so many of you taken in by unsubstaniated rumors. Not that I blame you - it's easy to cling to the smallest bit of hope.

These "leaks" really aren't anything we don't already know, are they? They essentially amount to "we're working on the game, and it'll be finished eventually". That's not exactly a game-changing statement. I hate to play the devil's advocate, but said position tends to be in the right on these forums, especially concerning TESV news.

And what's this about TESV being a "direct sequel"? Does this make sense? Do they mean it follows TESIV very closely on a timeline, or that it still takes place in Cyrodiil? This doesn't sound legitimate to me - it sounds like filler to satisfy the rumor-mongers.

I anticipate a massive reveal at E3 2011, with a Fall 2012 release. I'm calling it now. If they have such a huge amount of footage and gameplay to show off, they're not going to do it at the VGA's.

February seems very likely. I'd say that it could be announced at the VGA's, maybe Beth will release a few screens, or something of the sort. We crap in our pants for a month while the game is hyped out of control, and then they drop a Game Informer with some juicy info.

I can only hope.

I would bet that Half Life 3 is getting an announcement soon as well, but my guess would probably be later than February.

Although the tweet does say, "you've been waiting for this one forever". That could be anything. Heck, I guess I actually wouldn't be that surprised.

But nevertheless, even if February isn't TESV, then I bet we would still get a cover within a couple of months.

It says "you've been begging for this" meaning begging to Andy McNamara. I think people (including me) have asked him for an ESV cover quite a bit.

Still, maybe people have been begging to him for a different game for a while.

gonna go out on a limb and say probably not E3 2011, since Bethesda has shown, many times, a distaste towards announcing games at E3. February seems likely, with a possible tease at the VGA's, but more certain than anything, it'll be a direct announcement from BGS before anyone/anything.

Let us say that the announcement will HAVE to come before Quake Con 2011 or at Quake Con 2011 if they want to even have chance of getting it out by 2012-13.

Would they reveal a trailer at VGA if they announce it there? If so, maybe the voice acting that they are working on may appear on the premiere trailer.

Well I've only been waiting 8 years for Golden Sun Dark Dawn, so I'm pretty excited for that too XD

No but really, great find Matt. With the evidence amounting, I can give the Feb cover a 55% chance of being TESV. I can't wait :D

more like a 70% chance of it being TESV

I'm not too sure about a trailer, even if they did, probably not with gameplay. I could be wrong.

I do expect some screens though, that would hold me over. Probably with a fan interview with Todd shortly thereafter.

sorry that feb. cover
will be
Duke Nukem Forever
they have been waiting longer for that game, than for TES V
the game has been in development since 1997.
and remember that january cover
has something to do with a very big ship...
and a survivor?
anyways, that was posted in their december issue

Duke Nukem Forever has drawn a number of jokes related to its development timeline. The video gaming media and public in general have routinely suggested several names in place of Forever, calling it "Never", "(Taking) Forever", "Whenever", "ForNever", "Neverever", and "If Ever".[90] The game has also been ridiculed as Duke Nukem: Forever In Development, "the longest game ever in production" and "an elaborate in-joke at the expense of the industry".[

Yeah. If anything its just going to be a teaser announcement and then screens revealed via magazine with a gameplay trailer somewhere down the line.

The data certainly fits the hypothesis, but then again I felt about 10 times more confident about the DA2 cover tweet. I think you may be reading a tad much into it.

I hope you realize that he's intentionally vague in these tweets, not solely for secrecy sake, but also for enticing everyone eagerly waiting for a game announcement. The better he can craft his tweet to conform to all the possibilities, the more interest he can garner and thus more magazine sales he can generate.
