Official TESV Speculation Thread #80

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 2:30 am

There is NO OFFICIAL information about a new TES game release.

This thread is for member speculation of when and if TES V will be released. This is where you post any new information about when it might be released, tidbits from interviews which mention it and such.

It is also where you post your theories of when you think it might come out based on guesses, number crunching, rumors or such.

This is about speculating on the next TES game and when -- or if -- it is going to be released. It is not a place for discussion of what is going to be in it, what type of graphics there will be, or any other subject of that type; they belong in the http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1112872-tes-v-ideas-and-suggestions-177/. If those kind of posts get raised they will be deleted and the poster warned for going off topic.

Please note that this thread is not a personal chat box and that one liners and posts of little substance will be considered as spam and thus the poster will be subject to warnings and suspensions.

No scans of copy righted material are allowed in this thread. Any claims to having insider information will be removed. All other forum rules apply. You agreed to them, so please read them.

Note that Bethesda Game Studios is NOT working on Fallout: New Vegas, Rage, Brink, or Hunted: The Demon's Forge -- Nor do they develop MMOs.

EDIT: I see the previous post was already handled.

Tom's Hardware has now picked up the article as well. It's really amazing how much impetus this rumor has gained. It's unfortunate we still do not have a reliable source but must simple stake our trust on the reputation of Eurogamer. Time will tell how well-placed this would be.

Just reposting what was lost in the last pages of the last thread:

I theorize it's one of four things (Ordered from what I find most likely to least likely, 1 being most likely):

If this were an elaborate troll, wouldn't a dev make a post to straighten things out?

Probably, which is why that option is almost the lowest one on my list.

I agree a developer would have denied the story altogether if there was nothing to it. It's simple really, they ARE working on something, they just don't want to announce it just yet. Let's hope whatever it is they don't give us a repeat dose of those god aweful animations.. despite how sensational the storytelling and exploration elements were.

The viral rate at which the rumor is spreading is just a testament to how anticipated Elder Scrolls V really is.

Fallout 3 was fun and all, Bethesda...but as you can see, we'll always be ES fans :goodjob:

So I take it that there has been no response from Beth other than to say "we don't comment on rumours and speculation?" You would think that if this were untrue they would denounce it somehow. Of course there was that statement that Infernal city took place before the next ES game that was then retracted. I don't have a link for that, but we all saw it. Anyway... Hopefully it isn't a sequel to Oblivion. I would hate to return to Cyrodil.

It's not going to be in Cyrodiil.

And it is going to be a sequel to Oblivion just like how Oblivion was a sequel to Morrowind and Morrowind was a sequel to Daggerfall and Daggerfall was a sequel to Arena and Arena was a prequel to Daggerfall and Daggerfall was a prequel to Morrowind and Morrowind was a prequel to Oblivion and Oblivion is the prequel to TESV.

All this hype sounds like the perfect storm for an announcement in the near future. Roughly a month ago, someone posted that they had compiled statistics from numerous past game releases and that the most likely announcement month would be december; seems like whomever that was nailed it right on the head.

Possibly not.

Around the time Morrowind was released there was a persistent rumor of a game called "The Elder Scrolls Adventures" for the PS2. Every few months a bunch of stores would suddenly put it up with release dates and it would frequently pop up in magazine pipelines and rumor sections.

The game never existed but Bethesda rarely did anything in public to stamp it out (when stores took it down I imagine it was at Bethesda's request but this was all behind the scenes).

At times this supposed title became absolutely ridiculous. One online store put up Bloodmoon concept art as the cover and copy and pasted the Bloodmoon description over . . . so apparently they thought the PS2 was getting Bloodmoon as a stand alone game except renamed "The Elder Scrolls Adventures." Yeah. Others implied it was Morrowind, just renamed.

Theres no way to diffuse this situation. Only time can diffuse this situation.

Unlike the famitsu rumor about Bethesda having a secret announcement at E3, this directly relates to the elderscrolls.

Well, ANOTHER rumor is that they may unveil ES V at the Spike TV VGAs on December 11. And the VGAs are rumored to have several blockbuster announcements. Watch out for all these rumors, you might get knocked out by one flying across the room :unsure2:

Brought this account back to life to express my excitement at the mere possibility of this being true

How do you guys feel about idea of TES V using the same engine that we've seen at work in Fallout New Vegas? Is it showing it's age? Are its visual limitations balanced out by the scope of the world we get?

I await the heated and opinionated debate.

Well, as those translations go, (and also conversations between two people with two different first languages), there can be a lot of misunderstanding in the spreaded rumors.

First of all I hope this rumor has its roots in fact.

Second, the Link did not mean a direct sequel, but like all of their other games, he meant in the same universe, and some years after those events.

Third, I hope to see a lot of Oblivion Scarred places all over the Tamriel surfaces, with remnants of oblivion forces scattered around them, and maybe a few small gates still working, so that you could visit their realm again.

Four, I really hope there is a "Dragon Lord" in the next TES, and we have to fight him and his Dragons in the later stages of the game, but I think this name would not be his actual name, but was hinted at what we would see in the next game.

Five those rumors seem more probable than any other rumor that I have read til now.

Edit:

Six they have said that they are using a new engine, also they have said that they are changing their old engine that it has no part that in not changed, improved, or tweaked.

So this is their old GameBryo based engine that is upgraded so much that you could call it a new engine.

Yeah Geoff Keighley, video game journalist and host of Spike TV's GTTV, mentioned on his Twitter that there were still 10 premieres that have yet to be revealed. Maybe ESV is one of these.

Here's his Twitter account. http://twitter.com/geoffkeighley It's about 4 posts down.

It would make sense, I mean...ESV is like the worst kept secret in gaming kind of like Star Craft II was when they postponed it everybody new they were still working on it.

I think ES5 is a pretty well kept secret, considering they may have been working on it for some time now and we only hear about it this close to release - assuming all these rumours etc.

I'm pretty sure that if we don't hear about it around the VGA's then we probably won't hear an announcement until early 2011.

I doubt it's a ploy, Eurogamer could probably get sued for something as stupid like that false press is an issue even if it's just a rumor were there's smoke there must be fire.
