Official TESV Speculation Thread #81

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 2:27 am

Although the VGA's are popular, it's somewhat of a scoffed at event. I think Bethesda is going to stay away with announcing it there. I think they might just stick with the website announcement and Gameinformer reveal. It's been working for them.

BioWare seems to think that the VGAs are big enough to announce their next game at. Sure the awards themselves might be handled terribly, but the VGAs are known as an announcement ground and BioWare has already set the stage for there to be lots of expectant people tuning in. Bethesda could so easily steal their thunder.

I reckon they could, easily, but is that how game companies work? I saw something about films on TV a while ago explaining how people will refrain from releasing anything when something big is being released at the same time (I think they were discussing the Harry Potter franchise). Would it make sense for Beth to try and compete with BioWare? I personally think they would win hands down, but they might see it as avoidable competition which might distract from their own announcement. I have no idea how these things work though. I really feel like an announcement is on its way, but I suppose I'm trying to stay skeptical so as not to get my hopes pinned on one date and be disappointed.

To be honest with you I think gamesas has the industry like putty in their hands no matter when they decide to announce. Just look at the furore that that one rumour kicked up. So really they have no constraints in choosing when they announce. I think you're probably right, and they will want to avoid avoidable competition, but I doubt it will make too much difference to them really, and like I said - BioWare has already primed the VGAs to be a big thing. Jumping on the bandwagon might be better than leaving it until BioWare is in the middle of their hype campaign

I'm 98% sure we will see an announcement at the VGA's. I would be seriously surprised if Bethesda didn't jump at the opportunity to get such huge publicity for TESV. I mean they've been ready to show the game off for months. Why would they even consider waiting any longer?

Yes they have been ready to show the game but the sooner they announce it the sooner they would have to release the game so maybe they are just trying to stall that.

assassins creed is an annual event, because Ubisoft is a money grubbing company and reuse the same stuff in every game. With bethesda nothing is ported between the games, and none of the games are at all the same

If that famous Danish Euro gamer news is true and they are doing the voices for the game right now, then the game is extremely advanced. For Oblivion, they were doing the voice acting like 7 months before the actual release of the game. If you add this up to what Todd Howard said last August, we could see the game as soon as May or June 2011. At the latest fall 2011. So for sure I’ll be watching this VGA in December, because it’s too much of a great opportunity to miss. It’s exactly in the good time window and with great visibility. Doesn't mean it will be announce there, but the chances are good.

As for the Skyrim landscape, you have to go to Norway for that. I’ve been there once and it’s simply gorgeous with all the Fjords, high mountains, Glaciers and everything you can imagine about a Viking or ‘’Nord’’ country.

I'm getting hyped!

Though I invoke Akatosh for TES V to NOT be a direct sequel. Rumours make me uneasy...

I hope it isn't. If it has side quests to do with it Oblivion. Sure, find out what would happen to Cyrodil, but a direct sequel would be terrible.

Remember that these rumors are all stemming from the same source, the original Eurogamer Denmark article found http://www.eurogamer.dk/articles/2010-11-22-the-elder-scrolls-v-paa-vej. People are translating it to mean different things, and the original source may have even misinterpreted or misheard what actually happened (or it could all be made up. Just saying...). I am sure TESV will only be a direct sequel chronologically, there won't be "Oblivion 2." That just isn't Bethesda's style, especially after the long wait.

Sorry, that's wrong. I looked at that, and it's some kind of 2D barcode. You're seeing things.

Anyway, when decoded, it links you to a page - this one:

http://m.spike.com/lookcloser.rbml;jsessionid=x5C1Fv8BcisaoRo2g6POGQ**

Which according to VeryEvilDudeofDarkness, is a BioWare tease.

No dice :P

No, it's a Bioware tease because I've seen it on there facebook page

The Dragon of the North, Ysmir.

Ysmir is also Talos, and General Talos became Tiber Septim, Nordic dragonborn who brought upon the third era.

always found it strange how the Septim line is a nordic-dunmeri cross.

What does direct sequel even mean? Can't they just say "sequel" instead? .

Also I think that Skyrim wouldn't be the best setting, simply because of SNOW. I live in Canada, we get enough around winter. Bloodmoon was a great expansion for sure, I'm just not sure I want to spend 150+ hours walking in the snow. That also applies to Boreal forests without snow. I want diversity like swamps, and thick forests. My opinion

I'll just quote myself from the last page.

Well of course much of the land will be rocky/mountainous/snowy, but TES games, like most other open world games, like to have varied landscapes. Even if most of the province is littered with mountains and valleys, there will still be some parts of the land that are flatter. Take Oblivion, Morrowind, or even World of Warcraft for example. The land needs to be varied to keep the world interesting; even mountains and valleys will get boring eventually if they are all covered in snow and look exactly alike. If Beth employees were trying to get the feel of Denmark in their game it would probably only be in very small parts of the game, all of Skyrim will not look like Denmark.

Hey,

Since I did not want to read past 9 pages, I'll get to my point. When I watched the VGA trailer, you see the words look closer, proceeded by a bar code like image. I remember Doritos once did this. You needed to flash the image in your webcam, from there you could access content. I know Im onto something...

:toughninja: Maybe you should have read the past 9 pages. This was already discussed and it's part of a BioWare marketing campaign, presumably for Mass Effect 3.

Alright just so we can straighten things out with the whole barcode thing. It's an Activision teaser. There's apparently 3 different pages: one that says "Murder," one that says "Your," and another that says "Maker."

http://www.vg247.com/2010/11/26/activision-teases-murder-your-maker-for-vgas/#more-131499

So it seems Activison and Bioware are doing these puzzle game teaser things. I wish Bethesda would jump on the bandwagon to give us some fun speculation.

the best guess
is this is for Prototype 2
