Official "The Infernal City": An Elder Scrolls Novel

I think you're mistaken, though. Cyrodiil has two new towns. They're not exactly major cities in the book :P

Stop crushing my dreams. :P

As fantasy writing goes it was a bit lack luster. I liked the references to TES but as a standalone fantasy book it was a bit cack. I know that probably 100% of readers are TES fans but with a couple of hundred extra pages and just a slight introduction to the uninformed would have made it a better read. This is the 2nd book I've read recently (the other being Sapkowski's second Witcher book Blood of Elves) that is undoubtedly just half a book.

yeah, its written for the fans I mean just look at the price tag. Fourteen dollars for a little thin novel they knew we would buy! ;_;

I just got the book this morning for Christmas, and I found the first four chapters (I just read) enthralling. The characters are quite likable, the plot feels like it thickens with each page turned, and I love how it switches from characters between chapters.

Also, I enjoy learning about what's been happening since the games left off. New emperor, new institutions, and even an Imperial-sanctioned assassin's guild which I'm already looking forward to joining in TESV.

Yea, I was wondering whether or not those were just the Blades with an extra directive. Plus, the empire has a prime minister.

I don't think Colin should have even been a character at all. At first I liked him, and was looking forward to reading more about him. But then there was a huge gap between his first section and his second section, and after that he was only mentioned a few times. Not enough time was devoted to him in the beginning and by the end I started to hate reading sections about him because I barely knew anything about him, so I just didn't care about him. He's a failed character imo, and his only purpose was to uncover who was trying to kill Attrebus.

Well I have to say that I finished the book this mourning and I loved every page of it. I love the story the characters the plot, the mystery of it, the lore. Just everything including the the feel of the cover page. Also the artwork was just beautiful. Bethesda always has good cover art. Another thing I really loved is the change to the political landscape. In to many fictional setting things change here and there but overall they remain the same. In the TES world everything has changed. Morrowind is in ruin, black marsh is now probably in ruin, the Dunmer have been displaced, the Altmer are on the move and the Bosmer have been conquered, the empire is fragmented, and the mages guild have collapsed and fragmented. All of that just goes to show that Bethesda is not afraid to change their world in a radical way, which is good. It makes the world feel more real.

On a sidenote my own little theory is that the mages guild fragmented because of the policy the old guild had on the dark arts. I bet one side is for it and the other is against it. I hope it stays that way for awhile, because that would make for some really interesting gameplay. :liplick:

there aren't any Dunmer left in Morrowind to own slaves, as they've been slaughtered by the Argonians.

I am I to take this from a first degree?

In the future, it's possible that a splinter group of Dunmer may take up slavery again. That seems very unlikely though.

It's true, all of the Dunmer in Morrowind who weren't killed by the explosion of Red Mountain were slaughtered by the invading Argonians. The law allows slavery in Morrowind, but since the Dunmer are in Solsthiem now, they can't own slaves, according to the Empire.

Keyes' novel "The Infernal City" says that Prince Attrebus rescues some Argonian slaves at one point; this would be before 4E40. I don't think slavery will be as widespread as it was in the Third Era, though.

I'm still hoping that Helseth and Barenziah survive the Red Year.

It's sold in one of the biggest bookstore where I live (Quebec in Canada). So I guess it can be bought in a library wherever you live.

I saw it recently on the "new books" table at Schuler's Books (in Michigan; similar to Barnes and Noble). Interesting to see that it wasn't just in the SF/Fantasy area. I had already bought it from Amazon, but it's in some stores at least.

More likely she's the future Empress, or at least co-ruler with Attrebus. Come to think of it, I wonder if Colin eventually becomes the head of the Penitus Oculatus (sp). I wouldn't be surprised.

They probably will. After having failed to escape Umbriel, she's probably feeling hopeless and may see that the only way she can be a success on Umbriel is to appease Toel. Of course, Toel may no longer respect her given the fact that she didn't kill Slyr.

Hellmouth: other than a string of innuendos which are not entirely appropriate for a PG13 forum, nope.
