Official "when And If We Will Get TES V "

Post » Wed Mar 17, 2010 2:54 pm

There is NO OFFICIAL Information about a new TES game release.

This thread is for member speculation of when and if TESV will be released. This is where you post any new infomation about when it might be released, tidbits from interviews which mention it and such.
It is also where you post your theory of when you think it might come out based on guesses, number crunching, rumor or such.

This is about speculating on the next TES game and when - or if- it is going to be released, it is not a place for discussion of what is going to be in it, what type of graphics there will be or any other subject of that type, they belong in the http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=1065099. If those kind of posts get raised they will be deleted and the poster warned for going off topic.

Please note that this thread is not a personal chat box and that one liners and posts of little substance will be considered as spam and thus the poster will be subject to warnings and suspensions.

No Scans of copy righted material are allowed in this thread. All other forum rules apply. You agreed to them, please read them.

Also, the first Elder Scrolls Novel, http://www.amazon.com/Elder-Scrolls-Infernal-City/dp/0345508017, and it's release date, November 24th, 2009.
Further, an Amazon plot synopsis that was later removed indicates TES:V will take place 200 years after the events of the Oblivion Crisis. Here is the http://74.125.113.132/search?q=cache:LTwbGwuYMjgJ:www.amazon.com/Elder-Scrolls-Infernal-City/dp/1848566867 of the page via Google archiving.
Mkay, apparently that cache archive has been overwritten. January 6th, 2010: http://www.blogtalkradio.com/kotaku/2010/01/06/chatting-with-fallout-and-oblivions-todd-howard, at the 9:30-10:30 mark Todd Howard said: "[...] we spend a lot of time adding to the engine, [...] and we've sort of been doing that with the big new game [we've been] making since we finished Fallout 3. You know we finished Fallout 3 over a year ago so that whole time has been spent re-doing a large part of our basic technology[...]". Essentially confirming that their next big game has been Bethesda's main focus only since Fallout 3 went gold on October 8, 2008, a little more than a year ago. Considering the fact that Bethesda's games take 3-4 years to develop, we may not hear about TESV for some time.

UPDATE: I've zipped and uploaded the Google Archive I saved. Download's http://www.mediafire.com/?zt0jtmunzjj through Mediafire (blech, but unless you guys know of a better free file-hosting service...). Unzip and open the html document to see the confirming archive of Amazon's page.

PLEASE NOTE: AS PER MODERATOR REQUESTS IN THE PREVIOUS THREAD, PLEASE CONFINE THIS DISCUSSION TO SPECULATION TO BETHESDA GAME STUDIOS / TES:V. DISCUSSION OF ZENIMAX ONLINE STUDIOS PROJECTS OR AN ES MMO SHOULD GO IN THE http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=1036432

Note: Will add links to old threads later... new forum changed some things. :)

Looking at Bethesda's Skyrim trademark, they applied for it in November 2006, but got the Notice of Allowance in July 2007, about 8 months afterwards. For Morrowind, it was 5 months.

So if they don't announce it before July 31st 2010, and the trademark goes dead, there's going to be several months that we'll be waiting for them to register and get the NOA for a new trademark, because they have absolutely no other TES-related trademarks.

But on the bright side, that makes it even more likely that they'll announce it soon.

If it wasn't for the trademark, I would simply assume that we wouldn't be seeing an announcement for a while, until next year or so, as they claimed they have been redoing parts of their basic tech since late 2008. Because of the trademark, however, I think there is a lot of hope for an announcement this year. I'm guessing that what Pete (or Todd, I always get them confused) said was only partly the truth; they have been redoing their engine, but different parts of their team must have been working hard on the game for ages now.I was worried for a short time that Skyrim might be merely for a TES MMO, but then I realised it's not trademarked for the same things as the other mmos.

I just want to say good job ThatOneGuy for digging up that NoA date. I was looking for that, but apparently didn't look quite hard enough. At least it validates my estimate. Way to go! :goodjob:

Yeah, they have been posted before, but no big deal. Obviously Paul Oughton was just a tad optimistic with his predictions, the conclusion I've settled on myself is that he either had no idea what he was talking about, or was severely misinformed.

Thanks for the contribution, but those are indeed ancient. All you had to do was check the date on the posts (2008).

Check out my post (#32) on the last thread for a summary of what we know: http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1081413-official-when-and-if-we-get-tes-v-%2321/

You should just link directly to the post from now on, I have a feeling you'll have to link to it a lot from now on. Here's the direct link:

Oh and you should edit out the part in the trademark section about it possibly expiring in October, now that we know when the NOA was issued it's a sure thing that it will expire on July 31st.

:ahhh: This guy is supposed to be (according to the article) the publishing exec.

As you can tell I have returned to the forums after a long hiatus (it's the gravitational tug of the "Great Four Year Alignment). It's tough trying to get through all the crap out there, but you guys have really provided some concise POI throughout many sources. Good job.

But, I'm confused on the need to trademark "Skyrim". I would have thunk it to be proprietary, Right? Curious. I'm still going through the older threads so bear with me.

Oh yeah: again, sorry for the dated material. :hehe:

So..you're saying if TES isn't revealed at E3 you're going to drop TES games? That doesn't really make sense.

I don't understand it either. We all know that as soon as an announcement is made, anyone who enjoyed TES games will be interested. Interest doesn't completely die if it is not fed after a certain period of time. It becomes weak, but once food becomes available, interest will rise again, more powerful than ever.

Stop. He's saying he'll move on, because he believes E3 is the final venue for a TESV announcement, before the trademark expires. If it does expire, it will be years before we see another title, so the smart thing to do would be move on. This place is stagnant and mawkish and boring, without a new game to gab about.

They HAVE to announce it by E3, you know why?
Cause I'll go crazy if they dont! They have had a very long time, this game they are making, about a year and a half after fallout, a little less due to the Fallout 3 DLC, and what else? Before fallout 3, they worked on it more after Shiverimng Isles!

Thats like 2 and a half years of work so far.

I'm guessing we'll here nothing at E3, then the forums will be depressed for a few weeks until they announce it in the beginning of July. That will, of course, only happen if Bethesda is sadistic... :obliviongate:

Why do they HAVE to announce for this year's E3? What does that have to do the trademark expiring? Why can't they announce afterward and show it off at next year's E3?

You place too much stock in E3. Don't get me wrong; it's entirely possible they could announce for E3 - but to say they HAVE to announce at E3 is illogical and Bethesda has certainly proven in the past they don't need to announce a game at E3 for it to be highly successful.

What's "stagnant and mawkish" around here, if anything, are the unoriginal threats of those who think their opinion is so highly regarded that they can hold Bethesda hostage to announcing the game right away under threat of leaving. C'mon, seriously? Like was said previously, all those who have supposedly "dropped" TES will be back salivating for the next game as soon as it's announced.

You guys... TES 5 isn't coming for a while. Sorry to say. They are in fact, announcing a TES game this year though. It will be The Elder Scrolls online.

- www.elderscrollsonline.com is registered by bethesda

-Zenimax Online studio working on MMO starting in 2007 with $300million in capital funds for the project

Unless it brings something completely new and fresh to the table of MMOs, then I won't be playing it, since MMORPGs core gameplay mechanics have been the same since.... forever. I feel MMORPGs exploit players and don't really give a truly rewarding gameplay experience. I liked Elder Scrolls for the single player gameplay. I for one am very disappointed that Bethesda got envious of WoWs success and are trying to pursue it by destroying the elder scrolls franchise with an MMO.

And even if if/when a new single player TES comes out, guess what? It will probably still be dumbed down like Oblivion was for the masses. You shouldn't have to add a bunch of mods to make a game tolerable, I didnt even bother to mod Morrowind until after investing a few hundred hours into it because it was so good from its base [except for somewhat frequent crashes -__- F5 button became my best friend]

When they finally do announce that they'r making a new one, how cool would it be if one of the Devs got on here and talked with us and asked us for our opinions?

Like what Robert Orci did back when TF2 was being made. God willing it'll turn out better though.

I'm not saying we'd need a lot from them, just have them read our stuff and comment. If they take it into consideration then yay!. It would be so neat to hear from them as they worked on it.

If it ever comes to pass i'm shouting Werewolves as loud as possible.

Zenimax Online is a completely different developer from Bethesda Game Studios, and BGS has already said they don't make MMOs. So while yes, it is likely we will see the MMO announced this year (it was supposed to be announced last year according to a rumor), that has absolutely no effect on TESV.

The MMO is being developed by Zenimax Online, NOT Bethesda Game Studios - and all we have are highly speculative rumors that ZO's MMO is TES.

We have very good reason to believe that BGS's game is indeed TES:V.
