Official: When and If We Will get TESV

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 10:10 am

Wow. QFT. I hate the Gestapo games Bethesda is playing, what's so wrong with just coming out and announcing your game like every other developer out there?

This, amongst other things, makes my speculation meter tip towards the "No TESV" side. I mean really. TES V will be a HUGE FREAKING GAME!! You think Bethesda would just keep it all under wraps until 6 months till release? I don't think so.... I really don't. But who really knows.

Ya, I don't quite get the attitude of "we'll tell you when we're good and ready." I understand it somewhat from a marketing standpoint, but other developers whose games sell better than either Fallout or Elder Scrolls, let their fans know far longer in advance what they're working on.

Honestly, I don't see ESV officially being announced till Fallout: New Vegas is released. Something tells me that Bethesda Game Studios just would not announce a game while F:NV is being hyped up.

I have purchased (at some point in my life) every single TES game ever produced including arena and daggerfall although I really didnt play arena... every other game I "finished". When TES 5 comes out Im buying it.... sounds like 2010 isn't happening though =/ bummer... I hope TES 5 is more like TES 3 than TES 4.... I loved teleporting and flying in Morrowind!

p.s. Oh yeah I bought Fallout 3 too (best game I played that year).

p.p.s. No I'm not a plant. BioWare and Bethesda are the best game producing studios out there... and consistandly have excellent games.

2010 is going to be a busy year for Bethesda Softworks. They're going to have to deal with Fallout: New Vegas info all year. The TES MMO was supposed to be announced in 2009, so it will probably be announced this year. And in all likelihood they'll announce TESV this year. I wonder how long the marketing and PR departments will manage to keep their sanity.

Sanity? I don't recall them having any in the first place!

This has probably been said but I think that a TES V announcement should come relatively shortly (By the end of Q3) because of all the TES promoting they've switched to instead of Fallout 3 promoting. (Example: TESting Your Knowledge)

It's a marketing strategy taken by a lot of devs recently. Don't announce [censored] until you've got something definitive to show. Game development has gotten very long and extended in recent years, announcing too early can ruin your marketing strategy by making people forget that it's even coming out if the game get's delayed or etc. Just look at Dark Void or the third Brothers in Arms game, announced, delayed, then by the time they got out they were eclipsed by games riding the crest of their hype while they had long ago passed it. Terrible sales numbers, no hype, no money. No one wants that to happen to them, only a very very few companies like Blizzard don't have to care so much about that.

A lot of members here don't regularly check the Bethesda blog. I remember when Todd was on Kotaku talk radio, everyone was totally taken back, even though it was on the blog. That being said, I believe the stuff on the blog is not an advertisemant to the world, but more of an extension to our community.

TESV will be announce when the second book is announced, perhaps pre-orederes of the book will get some special preveiw or something. Considering we don't even know what said book will even be called, we have a while.

said preview would be online quick as a jiffy. And I do not believe extra game content would come from a pre-ordered book. I argue that the book and TESV will not directly tie into one another.

You guys are forgetting that said trend in development only repeats itself twice so isn't really a reliable pattern to base a possible release date on

I can't really see the release of FONV having any impact at all on the announcement of TESV or whatever the next big game is. After all, the reason why Bethesda subcontracted Obsidian to work on FONV in the first place, was so that they can proceed with their next game.

I concur. I don't see why the release of New Vegas and the announcement of TES:V must be mutually exclusive. Perhaps not the same day, but I find it quite reasonable for them to land within a week of one another; though if anything I would say that New Vegas' release ought to be expected first.

I'm also not seeing why TES:V could not have been under development after Oblivion, albeit perhaps a rather tepid development. Even it it's just one guy brainstorming concepts, I guess it would still be technically "under development". The development-time pattern of previous games is compelling, but we should be careful against holding that as law against Bethesda. They can do what they want, including changing their development cycle. Also, when we look at those patterns we must admit that we don't have a complete data set (none of us were actually there), and we're assuming that Bethesda's criteria for technically being "under development" is the same as ours.

Hey, is Bethesda going to be at PAX east? I hope so.

If the answer to that is yes, my wishful thinking is maybe someone can coax some tidbits or hints out there.

well the only thing I know is that if a TESV5 won?t come out, it?ll be a disaster for... well... gamers, the game world... I can?t specify it, but my fondest memory from playing TES is when I played in my dorm room, my crappy lap-top, Morrowind. I had some free days ahead, had just finished a call with grandma and it was raining. Suddenly, as I was visiting Diviath Fyr, the sun broke out outside. I paused the game and looked out the window and a rainbow was seen. The whole world seemed to just stop and look at the rainbow. It dissapeared and I returned to playing Morrowind, and the theme started playing. I got a great sense off... well... Completness... I have that feeling every time I play a TES game now. Wouldn?t want it to go away.

Probably not, because the list of exhibitors they've released so far didn't mention them. But that wasn't the complete list, so you never know.

But Microsoft's X10 Expo is coming up February 11th, and they say new games will be announced there, so maybe we'll hear something there.

I don't really see the correlationof the announcements of TESV and Fallout: New Vegas. Announcing them at the same time would cause to much commotion, I don't see how announcing them within a week of each other would be beneficial.

New Vegas is not a Bethesda game. It means nothing. I probably won't buy it myself, but think. If the books are there to help keep TESV big while they're busy working on it, maybe New Vegas is the same idea in game form? Something to keep people aware of Fallout during pre-announcement development? That makes me think we may have an announcment before New Vegas comes out.
