July, but we wont be hearing anything this E3. Bethesda always shows off their games at the E3 of the year before their game is released, and considering we don't even have an announcement yet, it definitely wont be at this E3.

2010: ??? announcement

The only thing Bethesda can do this year is either announce a game or do nothing regarding giving out information, because they're done with all of their other games now. And they've never just done nothing, not in the last decade anyway.

I've been looking closer at Bethesda's timeline and their patterns, and my gut tells me that they should be announcing their next game in early 2011. At least that's what the trend points to. But regardless of when they announce the game, it wont be released until at least a year after the announcement, so don't expect a game until at least early 2012.

I agree with the 2010 announcement and not the 2011, mainly because If they did do wait until 2011 that would mean that it would probably not come out until at least 2012, meaning most people would lose interest in the series. By then even casual gamers who might have bought Oblivion or something probably will have completely forgot about the series. Another reason they would want to announce the game sooner is that I'm pretty sure that its Investors are wondering what Beth is doing with all of their free time and need proof that they are not a) fooling around and B) making a Starcraft Ghost. Same goes for hardcoe fans who check the forums for news about TES 5 ^_^ .

Well like I said, either way TESV will be coming out either very, very late 2011 or sometime in 2012. Morrowind and Oblivion both took 1-2 years after they were announced to be released, and I doubt TESV will be an exception. A late 2010/early 2011 announcement will almost definitely result in a 2012 release date, unless Bethesda rushes.

The only glimmer of hope is the fact that Bethesda has to use the Skyrim trademark before Fall 2010 or else it will expire, so we may get an early announcement because of that.

Wasn't Fallout 3 released the same year as its E3?

True, but I was mostly referring to Morrowind and Oblivion, who were shown at E3 2001 and 2005 respectively, then released in 2002 and 2006. Bethesda was working on Oblivion DLC in 2007 so they couldn't really show off Fallout 3 until 2008, at least that's how I see it.

I can't see it being announced next year. Most casual gamers will have lost interest and we know Beth loves thier casual's!

Even if they don't have a trailer or anything, the LEAST they could do at E3 would be to at least confirm that TES 5 exists/is being worked on. I mean Todd Howard walking on to the stage, saying "We are making TES 5." and then walking off the stage would be enough for me.

Even though Bethesda hasn't announced it, it should be what they are working on. Can you imagine all the anger that will be displayed if it turns out Bethesda isn't making TES V?

I imagine a bunch of militant (really devoted fans) raiding Bethesda's headquarters armed with cardboard swords :gun: . But seriously, if there wasn't a TES 5, I'd be pissed. But those Amazon.com pics Summer posted are pretty convincing.

While I haven't entirely ruled out the possibility of a new series being worked on, I think it's very unlikely. Bethesda would not only loose a lot of their casual fanbase, but many of their more devoted fans if their next game wasn't a TES game.

As long as the games continue to be profitable, they will continue to be made. Now, if they go in a direction those of us who haunt these forums like or not is the real issue. At least to me anyways. I still feel we will get an announcement this year. Probably within a week or two. Why else would this thread have gotten started?

This is just another name for the Cumulative Speculation topic. It was renamed because people didn't understand what the difference between "speculation" and "suggestions" is. The title is basically a dumbed down version to stop people from suggesting ideas here.

Also, if TESV is announced in a week or two, much less before, say, August, I might laugh myself to death. Then cry, because that would mean Bethesda rushed TESV big time.

So they could also announce it this year, since they were working on Fallout 3 DLC last year, if your thesis is true.

I was joking. If it is announced anytime this year at all, I won't be around to play it because the shock will kill me. I really think the announcement should come sometime around next summer at the earliest.

It's possible that it will be announced this year, sure. Sometime in late 2010/early 2011. To clarify:

Morrowind was announced in 2000, shown at E3 in 2001, and released in 2002. Morrowind DLC was finished in 2003. Oblivion was announced in 2004, shown at E3 in 2005, and released in 2006. Oblivion DLC was finished in 2007. The first trailer for Fallout 3 was released in 2007, the game was then shown at E3 2008 and released in 2008. Fallout 3 DLC was finished in 2009. Should the pattern continue, ignoring Fallout 3 and it's wacky announcement/release schedule, TESV will be announced in 2010, shown at E3 in 2011 and released in 2012.

Well considering it was started in 2006 by Zenimax Online and is rumored to have supposed to be announced in 2009, I think an early 2010 announcement is likely with a release late 2010 or early 2011. Then we get TESV in 2012. At least that's what I hope.

I'm going to post this because I think it best shows the pattern I see. Note that this post is from the future ( :o ) where TESV has already been released. ;)

I recommend ignoring Fallout 3's section until you see the pattern with everything else, because Fallout 3's development is a little weird due to the fact that it was "announced" when Bethesda bought the rights to it but hadn't even started developing it yet. With everything else you can see that the announcement is in the middle, while Fallout 3's is in the beginning.
