Official: When and If We Will get TESV

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 4:00 am

That's just what I think will happen anyway. Thoughts, opinions?

Seems very rational and well thought out. Assuming that Bethesda follows the same development cycle/pattern as before.

I'm going to post this because I think it best shows the pattern I see. Note that this post is from the future ( :o ) where TESV has already been released. ;)

I recommend ignoring Fallout 3's section until you see the pattern with everything else, because Fallout 3's development is a little weird due to the fact that it was "announced" when Bethesda bought the rights to it but hadn't even started developing it yet. With everything else you can see that the announcement is in the middle, while Fallout 3's is in the beginning.

================================================================================

Work started on Morrowind in November 1998, it was developed all of 1999, announced in March 2000, shown at E3 in May 2001, and released May 2002.
(1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002)

The team split into two teams, one developed Morrowind DLC and the other developed Oblivion until June 2003.

Work started on Oblivion in May 2002, developed in 2003, announced in September 2004, shown at E3 in May 2005, and released March 2006.
(2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006)

The team split into two teams, one developed Oblivion DLC and the other developed Fallout 3 until October 2007.

Work started on Fallout 3 in July 2004, developed in 2005, developed in 2006, the first trailer was released in 2007, it was shown at E3 in July 2008, and released October 2008.
(2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008)

The team split into two teams, one developed Fallout 3 DLC and the other developed TESV until August 2009.

Work started on TESV in October 2008, developed in 2009, announced in 2010, shown at E3 2011 and released in 2012.

Judging from the previous information I've seen (which you have). I'd say TES V is announced this year, in my opinion most likely from March-June this year and will be released Q2 of 2011.

I really don't see there being a 6 year time lapse between OB and TES V when there was 4 years between Morrowind and Oblivion, especially since Bethesda has grown since Morrowind.

The problem with that is that for TESV to be released in early 2011, the development time will have to be cut to less than 3 years. Morrowind took 3 years 6 months to be made, and Oblivion took 3 years 10 months to be made. If TESV is going to retain the quality of previous TES games I don't think it can be developed in less than 3 years. October 2011 will be 3 years, so it could come out in the last months of 2011, but in all likelyhood it will be released in 2012.

I honestly can't see the value in listing previous development times as a reason for the game to come out whenever. There is so much more work that goes into aspects of the game that didn't even exist in previous iterations. The physics of Oblivion weren't in Morrowind and its predecessors as an example. There really is no way to predict when it is coming out until we get some kind of info from Beth. I do wish they would get on with it though. Even this board is getting tired. There's a thread out there on what type of toys a child would play with...
Part of me is excited for the new game simply because it will be the first game I'll be there for at launch.
Anyway, I say it will come out, but probably not for another year or two at least. By then my computer probably won't be able to run it and I will probably miss the launch board. Grumble grumble. I think that if I ever find out they were waiting for the next generation of consoles to come out before releasing the game I would until it could be found in the classic bin or on steam for $5

There's plenty of value. Bethesda's release schedule is fairly predictable, as you can see from my other post. We can easily see from their predictable pattern that Bethesda is set to announce something in 2010, which is basically the only thing they can do anyway. TESV should take around 3 1/2 years to develop like the other Elder Scrolls games, which just so happens to land right in 2012, as the pattern would have predicted.

I'm not saying it's right, but I do think it's logical.

As much as I enjoyed Fallout 3, I really blame it for the delay in TES5 and I kind of hate it for making me wait an extra 2 years (at the least) for the next installment of my favorite game series. Without Fallout 3, I really believe TES5 would have been released this year. Which, from what I have been able to gather, was the original development plan for the series. Fallout 3 represented a massive detour of both resources and time that could have been better spent on making TES5. So to me, 2012 is probably the earliest that we will see the next game released.

My one issue with claiming TES V would release in 2012 is that Oblivion SHOULD HAVE released in late 2005, but was delayed TWICE. I don't recall Morrowind running into issues like that. TES V could release as early as 2011 assuming they don't run into something that delays them upwards of 6 months.

http://xbox.ign.com/articles/098/098784p1.html Oblivion was delayed from late 2005 to march 2006. Even though they were delayed, those delays provided more development time to the titles, and the entire development time for both games, delays and all, is what I factored into my prediction for TESV. God willing they don't say it will come out in 2011 and then delay it until 2012. Bethesda needs to learn to make a game and only give a release date that they're sure about.

I just came to a realization!

Bethesda has been doing the TESting your knowledge questions and two were from Daggerfall and Arena, and the most recent was from Morrowind. I bet the next one will be from Oblivion!

The relevance of this is, is that they are moving forward in the series with each question. They will eventually get to TESV time. :hubbahubba:

Maybe they will ask us a question that we won't know the answer too. And then they will tell us where to find it, in TESV, which they will announce at that time!! :celebration:

So, since they've been doing the TESting Your Knowledge things about every week, I expect we will get to announcement time maybe within the next month or two! :intergalactic:

a few problems with your theory the first question was answered in a book in morrowind. the second could be found in redguard, daggerfall, and morrowind but the picture was only redguard. and the third is found if morrowind.

But they were referencing Arena and Daggerfall (but mostly Daggerfall).

Morrowind.
Then next question is from Oblivion.
Then maybe Infernal City.
Then TESV!!!

I counter your electron and raise you two protons... :D

Maybe. But maybe they were just told where the questions should be from, but not about Bethesda's secret plan. :ninja:

I have been around TES since the release of Morrowind all those years ago, and usually the lack of publcations/marketing on their games add to the speculation and hype for the game, I think it is the best way to go, I dont start getting twitchy and also I dont ready somthing and then forget about it on release 18 months later.

They say nothing so we can come up with our own ideas, they can then see if any of these ideas can be easily incorporated into the game at a later date, they also let us build ourselves up and then bombard us over 6 months with information and videos so that we are ready for the release and have not peaked long before the release.

I think I read somewhere that they way the development team works is that there is always someone working on TES games, so they started working on the idea of Oblivion as morrowind was still being developed. I think this is the same for TES V and Oblivion. The team is split also to work on other things Fallout 3 etc. So just because they have been developing something else it doesn't mean that all work has stopped on TES V.

In my view I would expect a confirmation that the game is being developed/worked on in mid 2010 with some official release either late 2010 or early 2011. And an expected release date of 2012, but as they have said before they rarely give a release date as 'It's done when it's done' so I dont really expect anything for 18 more months, I'm just praying for the timeline above.

I have to go with antibody here, though I probably wouldn't give credit as the originator of the theory. There have been others present similar development patterns. Based on his well presented argument, I am inclined to believe that early 2012 to be the most reasonable release date. However, I am leaning toward a mid 2010 announcement just due to the heightened TES pvssyr. The book's pre-release faux pax and the 'TESting Your Knowledge' trivia are just a couple. There also seems to be a slight uptick in the frequency of dev media interviews.

Looking at the http://bethblog.com/index.php/2010/01/29/inside-the-vault-chris-rodriguez/#more-6234 (January 29th, 2010), who is a new staff member who is "a programmer in the Systems Group. My core responsibility is implementing and maintaining the animation system."

He also states that "I can't talk about what I'm currently working on. I got here too late to work on Fallout 3"

So it goes to show, beth has just hired a new animation system programmer for an unannonced game....It dont know what you can gather where they are up to from that, but obviously they are developing animations, or at least the system to run them.

I'm not sure if this has been posted before, and I don't know how credible the source is, but I found this:

1:20 to 1:56

Not really anything new, but the source to me looks fairly credible and they state that we should be hearing something about TESV at or before E3 in June, perhaps at PAX East.

Oblivion did so well I highly doubt IF is even something to consider.
We will get it.
Unless of course it goes the way of Duke Nukem Forever. Which would be bad.

News is one thing, rumours is another. Although the possibility of an Elder Scrolls based MMO exists, such a game would not be made by Bethesda Game Studios.
