I don't think so. For example, looking through the half-dozen or so World of Warcraft trademarks brings up this one:

The Skyrim trademarks have no equivalent filed for their use.

Well, that restores a lot of hope for me. It definitely could mean we're going to get an announcement before August. One thing that puzzles me, though: why filing an intent for use mean they have to make an announcement? Is it merely because it would be a giveaway if we saw that they were definitely using it, and it isn't their style to give it away without announcing it themselves?
I really don't know whether I agree with the overly pessimistic view that they won't announce it until late next year, or the rather more optimistic view that they have to announce it before August. The latter's backed up with evidence, but I don't want my hopes crushed again.
A TES V is definitely looking like it could be happening though: they're suddenly doing podcasts, the whole TES trivia competition (they've barely been talking about the Elder Scrolls Series for ages before now), the Skyrim Trademark...

Yeah, pretty much that. It just seem so pointless to keep spouting, "Nope, nothing to see here folks! Har har har!" when there's a documented statement of use available for all to see on teh internets. I can't imagine them filing a statement of use and then not announcing. I guess they could, but it would just seem so nonsensical.

Well, nothing is for certain, and I always preempt each possible date by assuring myself that it's not likely to happen. Better to be a pessimist the week or two before, yet still recognize the plausibility of the date coinciding with an announcement.
But yeah, the podcasts and slight increase in activity is very interesting... :D Fun to watch and file away for measured speculation, if nothing else.

Is there still no news about TES V? I'm predicting we will have to wait as long as Daggerfall fans did for Morrowind, if not longer. I don't think there could have been any more than 1 1/2 years of development on TES V, considering Fallout 3 took about 2 1/2 years of development time by itself. Assuming that is true and assuming TES V will have 4 years of development, I'm predicting that TES V will be released in late 2011 or early 2012.

They are working on "multiple projects". They have been working on their "big game" for a year and a half, but the Skyrim trademark will expire in August unless they file intent for use, so It's possible they'll announce it within the next 6 months.

OK, lets straight a few things up.

TES V is in development for sure and it's been developed longer than a year and a half. Different teams are working on Fallout and on The Elder Scrolls.
They will most likely announce it at E3 (I know it's not their style but everything has a first time).
You can't possibly know in what region the gameplay will be set so stop talking about that.

And yes, we will most likely see a new tes game at the end of this year or beginning/middle 2011.

P.S.

Don't know why I did what I just did but I did it. :S

On the contrary, that we are certain of. Nothing you said in that paragraph made much sense, given all we know. sowwy

Actually:

1. Everything we know leads to their newest game having been developed since October 2008. A handful of people from Bethesda have said so, and while they may have done some pre-production before then, serious development only started after Fallout 3 was released.

2. Very doubtful. It could happen, but I don't think Bethesda would reveal their new game in a place where so many new games were also being revealed. Maybe a few weeks before E3. In all likelihood, Bethesda will announce something this year. When they will is anyone's guess.

3. Yes, we can. Bethesda trademarked the name Skyrim. Bethesda, or rather, Zenimax, has never trademarked anything from the Elder Scrolls that wasn't used for the title of a game or an expansion. So it's practically guaranteed it will be set there.

4. No, we wont see a TES game anytime this year. With Morrowind, Oblivion and Fallout 3, all of those games took longer than a year to be released after they were announced. Because the game wasn't announced last year, it cannot possibly come out this year.

Please do proper research like some of us have before trying to give us "correct" information.

That and, IIRC, "Skyrim" is currently the only thing they have trademarked that would explicitly make sense for TES.

I'm still hoping they're taking my advice and giving us absolutely no news whatsoever. The game has already gone gold and they'll just release the game (in May) knowing that they've already established a rabid fanbase who will run over old ladies to get a copy of the new TES.
The realist in me isn't looking for a new tes games this year, hopefully this generation, maybe 2012

I'm a bit curious about something: Are there any plans on rehashing Radiant AI? Or approaching AI from a different prespective?

Obviously Radiant AI in it's current inception is not perfect, and the engine itself limits it in some respects. So is there a chance TES 5 will be built on a new one to make Radiant AI more dynamic some how?

I'm almost completely convinced that TES V will take place in Black Marsh.

Fallout 3 gave plenty of hints.

or maybe I expect too much "conceptual continuity" from Bethesda.

Who knows...

What kind of hints did it give exactly? I can't think of anything...

I mean, Point Lookout showed that they could make swampland very well, but I wouldn't call that evidence of the next game being set in Black Marsh...

When I played Oblivion, it seemed like every other province was having issues if you listened long enough. I think that when they were making Oblivion they didn't really have an idea where they were going next so they kept their options open. I think we can rule out any of the provinces they've already done. I'd say Skyrim is the best bet going...

Hehe, my first thought when playing Point Lookout was "Oh man, they're practicing for Black Marsh!"

I was also thinking of how they made Harold into a full-blown tree. Like a Hist.

Meh, I guess I'm jumping to conclusions. I'm just getting so impatient and want some new TES.

I actually just sat in Oasis for a few in-game days exploring the caves/area because I was thinking: "TES:V! TES:V! TES:V!"

I wore the Scribe Robe, and walked around without a weapon pretending I was mage... yeah, I went that crazy.

Here is my interpretation of what is going on with TES V...

I think that Beth decided their engine needed working on, for whatever reason. Seems sensible - if they keep churning out games that are essentially Oblivion/Fallout 3 with different wallpaper, people will get tired of them and they will look and feel dated. So, post Fallout 3 DLC, they decided that they would concentrate on this for a year or so.

However, they want to keep the ES and Fallout franchises in the public conciousness, so they devise a plan for doing this. For ES it is the books, for Fallout it is New Vegas.

I don't think that there is any question they have started working on TES V. I would guess many of the ideas are well into development. However, it may be a while before a game is seen (certainly not announced until after the next book comes out, whenever that is).

I think they may also be working on other things, and other people may be working on other things to do with these franchises (ES online, maybe).

Just my interpretation...

I bet they will precede annoucing TES V by asking a TESting your knowledge question that we can't answer since it'll be based on the new game. And then reveal the answer along with the announcement!

No, I think the ESV question made Todd realize that fans want a new ES game. Since they just figured that out, I'm going to predict a 2013 announcement and a 2014 release. Expansions and such to follow.

That's no use, the world is meant to end on Dec 23 2012!

I'm dissapointed we have not heard nay even had an Elder Scrolls since the last one, I'm really looking forward to the next installment though.

Just going to have to make do with Napoleon Total War until then
