Heh. That article's source (the QuakeCon misquoting) is linked to in the OP, last I checked. Didn't think I'd see that forum-disaster resurface. The real irony is that the 1-up article is refuted by the first comment on its page. :toughninja:

I've done a little digging around, since we're running dry of on-topic convo again... go figure.

http://www.vgreleases.com/ReleaseDates/All-12-2010.aspx?OrderBy=sortdate - a website dedicated to keeping track of all future game releases, and when they are due. This link leads to the December 2010 section, where amongst countless random titles we can see anticipated games like APB, Rage, Six Days in Fallujah, The Witcher: Rise of the White Wolf, DC Universe Online, FFXIV Online, Fable 3, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, and many others. Amongst all those titles, we can also find The Elder Scrolls V.

Sounds good until you also see games like Gears of War 3, Half Life 2: Episode 3, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, Killzone 3, and Zelda Wii on the same list. Games that we have heard nothing about as far as release dates go, and in some cases, lots about EXCEPT for release dates. Now lets take a game in a similar boat to TES:V - one that we've heard nothing about, but can safely assume it's being worked on - Gears of War 3. Gears 2 was released in late 2008, with a 2 year turn-around being expected for this sort of game (same engine etc). However, having heard nothing about a Gears 3, it seems a little unlikely that it will make a 2010 release doesn't it? Far more likely that if it is shown at E3 then a 2011 release will seem more believable. This becomes even more apparent when you anolyze a game like Fable 3, which again has around a 2 year turn-around since the engine is up to scratch. The difference is that Fable 3 is in the hype stage. It's been shown at Microsoft's X10 and will likely play a large role at ths year's E3, and yet it still has a release date of late 2010, just like currently unannounced games Gears 3 and TES:V have in some people's eyes.

So the question i'm posing to you: If a game like Fable 3, which is now in the marketing phase, building hype, and generating as much interest from potential customers as it can, is shooting for a late 2010 release... then is it still realistic to assume that a game like TES:V which hasn't even been announced yet, let alone shown to generate interest, is going to be released before the end of 2010? It looks far more likely that a 2010 release is really beyond all hope, and that 2011 is now the most hopeful option. Combine this with Antibody's prediction timeline, and late 2011 / early 2012 is probably the realistic option.

Well thanks for the find, it at least gave me hope for a bit. However I checked the sources for the release date they had for TES 5 and it turned out to be the Paul Oughten article in October 2008; which isn't bad, its just at this point I seem to find that article unreliable considering that it's 2010 and we still have no announcement on the game. However I did find something interesting. In that site under latest media for TES 5 there's a video that's been removed entitled The Elder Scrolls V Discussion Part 1,2, and 3. I wonder if it was just a hoax or if it was actually removed for a reason?

I'd love an Elder Scrolls 5, as everyone here would - Morrowind and Oblivions are 2 of my top 3 favorite games ever, the 3rd being Fallout 3, so as you can tell I am a huge fan of Bethesda and their games.

As far as content, I really don't have any preference where it takes place. Shoot, as much as an emotional attachment as I have to Morrowind (the game), TES5 can take place in Morrowind again for all I care. I wouldn't mind going through the lands of Morrowind again, this time with better graphics and physics.

What I do want to see, however, is Oblivion style gameplay (I.E. combat), but combined with the creative choices you had from Morrowind (I.E. skills, and guilds). Enchant was one of my favorite skills in Morrowind, and I'd really love to see it brought back in TES5, along with more guild variety, and guild conflict. There was something cool about knowing in Morrowind that if you were in the Thieves Guild, you wouldn't be able to join an assassination guild, because killing was forbidden in the Thieves Guild. I also liked the number of guilds you could join. Hopefully they have some really good guilds to join in TES5.

Sure, why not? I'll say its realistic. They may ride the hype pony less this time. There's an argument against that belief, but the [censored] if anyone really knows.

The reason why there hasn't been a new TES game should be rather obvious to anyone who has spent any time digging around in both the CS and the GECK. They don't want to start working on a new TES game until the engine and hardware has advanced enough to do all the things they want. As you might have noticed, some of the things which were planned within Oblivion were cut or diminished significantly due to how the engine worked and the limitations of hardware. Even with the improvements seen within Fallout, many of these same limitations and problems still exist. The devs are probably holding off so that they can finally make a game which surpasses Oblivion both AND Morrowind, as well as one that can cope with the raw size of something like Daggerfall.

So, just be patient and wait. In the meantime, Oblivion is far from dead with a number of large mod projects finally moving forward.

I know that Bethesda is confirmed to be involved in some sort of Natal game, though it's unknown if it's being developed by Bethesda Game Studios or simply being published by Bethesda Softworks. But I really doubt that that game is TESV, and I doubt that Natal will be used for TESV. Todd Howard thinks the Wii is a kids toy, so he probably doesn't like motion controls very much, so I don't think he'd put any form of motion control into a title as big as TESV. Maybe for a standalone TES game like Redguard, but not for something like TESV.

One simply hopes Beth is just keeping TESV under wraps because its going to be awesome. I don't doubt there will be one, I just hope its still for XBox 360. But who am I kidding? I'd buy the next console for TESV...Oblivion is the whole reason I bought a 360...

I bought a 360 for Oblivion, and the understanding that there would be good future games. I was right. However, I don't think the market's prevailing judgement is to buy a new console anytime soon at all, for any game. I know I wouldn't.

I have to say I'm now losing interest in TESV. The time was ripe to announce early fall last year and now most of the hype has died. I remember how excited I was during the countdown for the release for oblivion and I don't think I'll have that now if they announce TESV because they waited to long. I would still love to see it come out, and they'll still make a killing if they do release it, but they waited too long and I think they lost alot of people. Unless they announce soon theyb will lose even more people. I still have my fingers crossed.

I'm as annoyed as anyone about no announcement but I think they have a planned schedule and that the 2nd book will have been out for a while before we hear anything. I also think the game may include a radical overhaul of the tech which means extended development time. OB was a bit of a graphics groundbreaker so if they plan on knocking our socks off they are going to have to jump far past F03/FNV. Thing that bothers me is they could have had a continuous revenue stream if they had kept up expansion on OB. Small staff could have kept momentum up thru downloadable content. Beth makes strange choices.

This quote makes me laugh. :biglaugh: It's a silly statement. Why are you losing interest in something that hasn't been announced? And assuming that this game is in development (we all know it probably is), why would they announce something that may be along way off from release? They aren't going to announce something if they don't have anything to show. If they had announced it last fall and still dIdn't have anything to show, don't you think there would be even more disinterest then you are showing now? Judging by the number of threads started on this topic, here, as well as other communities, I think it is obvious there is plenty of interest in this game. Bethesda isn't worried about that. Announcing it last fall would have done more harm then good. Besides, once they do announce it, and have some awesome screenshots and gameplay video to show, fans will be be begging to get their hands on this game.
