Official: When and If We Will get TESV #20

Post » Wed Jan 20, 2010 4:36 am

There is NO OFFICIAL Information about a new TES game release.

This thread is for member speculation of when and if TESV will be released. This is where you post any new infomation about when it might be released, tidbits from interviews which mention it and such.
It is also where you post your theory of when you think it might come out based on guesses, number crunching, rumor or such.

This is about speculating on the next TES game and when - or if- it is going to be released, it is not a place for discussion of what is going to be in it, what type of graphics there will be or any other subject of that type, they belong in the http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=1065099. If those kind of posts get raised they will be deleted and the poster warned for going off topic.

Please note that this thread is not a personal chat box and that one liners and posts of little substance will be considered as spam and thus the poster will be subject to warnings and suspensions.

No Scans of copy righted material are allowed in this thread. All other forum rules apply. You agreed to them, please read them.

Also, the first Elder Scrolls Novel, http://www.amazon.com/Elder-Scrolls-Infernal-City/dp/0345508017, and it's release date, November 24th, 2009.
Further, an Amazon plot synopsis that was later removed indicates TES:V will take place 200 years after the events of the Oblivion Crisis. Here is the http://74.125.113.132/search?q=cache:LTwbGwuYMjgJ:www.amazon.com/Elder-Scrolls-Infernal-City/dp/1848566867 of the page via Google archiving.
Mkay, apparently that cache archive has been overwritten. January 6th, 2010: http://www.blogtalkradio.com/kotaku/2010/01/06/chatting-with-fallout-and-oblivions-todd-howard, at the 9:30-10:30 mark Todd Howard said: "[...] we spend a lot of time adding to the engine, [...] and we've sort of been doing that with the big new game [we've been] making since we finished Fallout 3. You know we finished Fallout 3 over a year ago so that whole time has been spent re-doing a large part of our basic technology[...]". Essentially confirming that their next big game has been Bethesda's main focus only since Fallout 3 went gold on October 8, 2008, a little more than a year ago. Considering the fact that Bethesda's games take 3-4 years to develop, we may not hear about TESV for some time.

UPDATE: I've zipped and uploaded the Google Archive I saved. Download's http://www.mediafire.com/?zt0jtmunzjj through Mediafire (blech, but unless you guys know of a better free file-hosting service...). Unzip and open the html document to see the confirming archive of Amazon's page.

It's still just rumors and speculation there is no real proof that it's really coming out. Bethesda will release it when they feel ready theres no reason to hold a whole thread over this discussion.

If there was "proof" that it was coming out, then there would be no need for speculation, as it would be announced. I would also note that there is no "proof" that it is not coming out or currently in development, so I don't know what you hope to show by citing proof.
And besides, simply because my post doesn't prove that TES:V is coming out doesn't negate its meaning. For example, it is impossible to truly prove atomic theory, and yet consistent evidence points to it with little to no evidence to refute it.

This is a thread devoted to speculation. Why? Because those of us who do it enjoy it. Even if our guesses are off, we can at least come up with potential announcement times based on collected information. If they go by without an announcement, then oh well, no skin off our backs (or at least off my back). It's happened a lot before. When new members ask for any info regarding TES:V, they are pointed to this thread with a disclaimer that it is entirely speculation. That way, they can discuss when it might come out, and TES General isn't flooded with 20 or 30 "I want TES V! Any news?!" threads.

Back to my post last thread stating why I believe TES:V to be currently in development, do you take issue with any of the points I raised? Or do you have observations or information that you feel would disprove and offset my cited information?

I gotta say, I'm really losing interest. TESV used to be my most-wanted game, now it's just "eh." I'm sure once it's announced I'll get hyped again, but for now, I'm tired of waiting for news.

That's why they won't announce the game until they are closer to a potential release date.

Yeah, it's hard to not be discouraged when we're anticipating TES:V with such eager excitement. Far from waning interest or gaining impatience, if anything I am getting a little frustrated and discouraged that the announcement hasn't yet come. However, I hold out hope that it'll be all worth it once it does come.

Well, then there is no problem at all. There is no reason to keep your interest while the game is not announced, because Bethesda will be able to generate that interest with an annoucement. A lot of casual gamers start anticipating games after they're announced. Current interest in the game is not that important, since annoucement will generate the hype for both, hardcoe and causal gamers, however, if there it takes too long between announcement and release, Bethesda will start loosing interest that really matters, because then it wouldn't have the option of Annoucement Hype Generator. Thus, Bethesda has no reason to announce it too early and a big reason to wait until everything is ready.

A game of that scale will take years to develope. Personally I do think they've started work on it but don't expect confirmation any time soon. My prediction is for a release date towards the end of 2012, say November or even the first quarter of 2013, say March.

Am I the only one who thinks it's a little odd that more and more tid bits of rumours see to be trickling in lately? Also, bethblog has been using alot of tes related topics with the TESting your knowledge stuff. And, Todd and Petes podcast interviews which both left us with a glimpse of info. I just feel over the last 3 years never have we had a steady flow of TES rumours like now.

No, you're not the only one. There definitely seems to be a concerted effort toward ratcheting up interest surrounding TES. This leads me to suspect, along with many others around here, that an announcement is coming relatively soon (this year).

I don't think it's a question of "is it?" otherwise they wouldn't have denied it so strongly on the blog when people said they weren't making it. Not to mention:

1. The books seem to indicate a long-range story continuation. If there is only two books, that would mean more stuff would be necessary after.

2. I remember seeing, as I cruised through old threads, someone say something about Bethesda making sure the books didn't clash with past or future lore. Future lore implies a future implies a new game.

So don't worry, we have nothing to worry about! :D

I've said it once, I'll say it again.
It's profitable. Extremely profitable. If I was gamesas I would have already have released two new TES Games..... but I honestly don't understand their marketing division, It's like they're honestly mentally retarded.

Well, they need to at least have something to market first. If their trailer showed off nothing but a buggy, glitchy mess and a title, or if the game came out quickly but wasn't up to snuff, TES would no longer be popular or profitable.

Best Avatar Ever, by the way.

...Are you aware that videogames aren't made by fairy dust and wishes? There's a process called development, and while it's possible for them to release two completely unfinished, buggy excuses for a game, nobody would buy their games anymore. Sure they might make a profit on the first one, but only before word got out that the entire game consisted of exploring a single town. After that they'd be able to hitch a ride on the cool train to bankruptcy as nobody would buy their games anymore.

2 new titles???? Seriously????? Sure, it's possible, but we wouldn't have seen much of an improvement over Oblivion and they most certainly wouldn't have sold as well as their previous titles. Hey, this is Beth's baby we're talking about here. In the past, it's been their bread and butter. It's what put this company on the map, and they want to make sure they get this right. They aren't going to just push a game out as quickly as possible. A lot of thought goes into a TES game. The secret to their success has been the rich history and lore, a huge open ended game world, cutting edge graphics, etc. Is this possible with just 2 years of development time??? Not likely. There most certainly hasn't been enough time to develop 2 TES games since Oblivion and still retain the quality of past games.

I actuly do think they are working on it The Writers at least Because greg keyes has two elderscrolls books coming out one already out (the infernal city) and another one i think these are going to bridge the gap of the events of oblivion like 40 or 60 years but as we know bethesda never tell us anything untill there well into i have two requests

dont make it online its unfair and spoils the whole essence of the game (your charecter being special) And give us guild storylines again More Dark Brotherhood!!!!!!!

Tell me about it. When Daggerfall came out I was a freshmen in college, and was able to easily balance sports, school, Daggerfall, as well as sad attempts at getting laid. When Morrowind came out I was employed but had a gf who was not clingy at all. Oblivion is when things started to unravel: full time job, engaged (still not clingy), but with the added resonsibility of a house to take care of. By the time TES V hits the shelves I'll have been married for at least 3 years, and not only do we have two dogs, and a house, but we'll have children by then! TES: V will be seriously on the backburner!

Putting your wife and children before TES? You need to sort your priorities out mate.

But honestly, that's scared me. It's like a glimpse into my future. I'm in my last year of uni right now, so I know i'll be in full-time employment when TES:V hits the shelves. Not sure i'll be able to get as much out of it compared to Morrowind and Oblivion. It's 1:50pm right now. I woke up an hour ago, have just showered and am now eating breakfast. I usually have lectures on mondays and tuesdays, but for the next two weeks the tuesday lectures have been cancelled. One day a week of 'work' and 6 days of sleeping, drinking with friends, and playing games like Oblivion... Man, I have a huge reality check coming my way...

When I start thinking that way, I can't help but think about how wonderful my life would be if I could just live in Tamriel - then I get even more depressed. So then I try to read a book about it to capture some lore and feelings - but then the book ends after a couple hours of reading. Then I go on the forums and look for news of TESV. I NEED TO OFF THIS STUFF MAN
