Offspecing

Post » Sat Jan 25, 2014 12:55 am

If the leveling is anything like it used to be in WoW or is in Skyrim, having an offspec is going to be a MAJOR project(not complaining). If I'm a light/medium armor Healing Templar with a destro staff, well thats not going to serve your tank offspec well. So say you wait until 50 to worry about an offspec, your going to have to go out and level your armor skills, weapon skills and ability skills.

Dev's have said that you'll have enough points to get all the skills in your class by end game which begs the question, how many exactly? Could it be that if you keep going out and finding sky shards you could very well have more points than other 50's? Is it possible that you can have 2 fully "Morphed" specs at all times(after hunting down every skyshard)?

Perhaps by adding a little extra thought/gear switching during leveling you can have a very powerful offspec by the time you hit 50.

The more you use a skill, the more powerful it becomes I would say.

In terms of skill points, between 1-50 you're going to get what? 50? Then there's collecting all the Skyshards.

He means switching to your secondary skill line, the thing you unlock at level 15.

WoW needs an offspec because your talent choices are extremely limited. ESO, as far as I know, does not have an official "offspec", since you don't have a main spec. You can switch specific weapons/skills for different situations, but there is no magic button to turn you from a healer into a tank. Especially since they're trying to avoid forcing people into the holy trinity style of gameplay.

Isn't that weapon-switching, not skill-switching?

Right, but it's not an off-spec in the sense that you get to reallocate skill points for it. You can just assign skills you already have, right?

The way ESO does skill leveling is different than in most MMOs, for the most part. When you level you character, you other (combat) skills level as well. Although practicing a combat skill will help level it, the best way to level up your combat skills the best is by using that specific combat style AND leveling up your character.

This is very apparent in many game-play videos I've seen for ZOS.

Actually, that brings up one thing I've been wondering.

We know that all your slotted skills level as you do, regardless of how often you actually use them. With dual-wield, do the skills you have slotted on your secondary bar also level while your primary weapon is active?

good question, i would guess no butwho knows. seems an easy way to level all skills at once if back up bar gains xp when not in use.

Also mentioned was getting skill points for completing portions of your primary story quest, and completing other major quest lines.

As far as we know, the "backup bar" is not considered a separate skill set. You don't start from scratch with a new set of skills when you get the switching ability. You just gain the ability to quickly switch between hotbar assignments from skills you have already learned.
