Offspring of a Daedra + a human?

Post » Fri Feb 18, 2011 10:07 pm

What would the offspring be if a Daedra mates with a human? Will it be immortal? Has it happened before in Elder Scrolls history?

Unpossible

So far, there have been no documented instances of Daedric children. Chances are that they can't create children.

It's not uncommon for Immortal beings to be infertile. I'd say that this is likely the case with Daedra - especially since they're known for their inability to create, and reproduction is the quintessence of creation.

Muthsera,

The terrible and golden-hued "half-Elf", Umaril the Unfeathered was said to have the blood of the 'ada and would never know death. Umaril listed his bloodline in the Ayleidoon and spoke of his father, a god of the [previous kalpa's] World-River. (http://www.imperial-library.info/obbooks/songofpelinal.shtml)

Umaril has been linked to Meridia, and Meridia (a daughter of Magnus) is said to have been cast from the ranks of the Aedra due to consorting with "illicit spectra". (http://www.imperial-library.info/book_daedra/index1.shtml#meridia). It is quite possible that she "consorted" with Umaril's father, which resulted in the Unfeathered.

Thus, if such is true, we have a demonstration of cross-breeding Daedra.

But you asked if there were an example of a mortal offspring of a Daedra. The answer is yes, Nerevar is said to have been the son of Boethiah.

"This Nerevar is the son of Boethiah, one of the strongest Padomaics." (http://www.imperial-library.info/mwbooks/wulfharthsongs.shtml)

And we know what kind of mer this Indoril Nerevar was.

Our http://www.imperial-library.info/mwbooks/notesracial.shtml on the subject remains neutral, although I wouldn't discount a Daedric Prince from not being able to do whatever they wanted.

Well Molag Bal had a Winged Twilight daughter in Morrowind, so I guess they can create Offspring (or at least the Daedric Princes can)

http://www.imperial-library.info/obbooks/lairvileopusculuslamae.shtml could maybe be considered the offspring of a Daedra.

More likely though, http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Molag_Grunda seems to suggest that Daedric offspring follow the usual rules of interracial breeding: the kids are the mother's race sometimes with minor traces of the father. That is, assuming the mother was a Winged Twilight.

Or maybe the mother was Azura? Since the Winged Twilights were her servants?

The lore is finicky and inconsistent on a Daedra's ability to breed with mortals, but a few good cases already named (most prominently Umaril) seem to suggest it is a very real possibility.

Also, when you taunt the Dremora in the Maar Gan shrine in MW, he says "after i kill you i will [censored] you corpse! dont worry, i'll be gentle"
Although this doesn't prove that they can reproduce.

She was probably simply created, like most Daedra, by a Daedric Prince.

Wasn't there a case of Vehk and Molag Bal?

Yes, from the Pomegranate Banquet comes the [censored] of Vivec and the race of monster that were their offspring, which numbered in the thousands. The mightiest is a string of power GULGA MOR JIL HYAET AE HOOM. (http://www.imperial-library.info/mwbooks/lessons.shtml#12)

But this is the union of two gods, not of a daedroth and a mortal.

I think the Nerevar being the son of Boethiah is figurative - Nerevar is more like the perfect catalyst for revolutionary change (the Tribunal) and murder (again the Tribunal murdering Nerevar), and betrayl (Vehk, Ayem, and Seht betraying their/Nerevar's oath to Azura). EDIT: also, the next line after the one you quoted: "He is a hero to his people despite his Tribunal, and he shall muster enough that this battle will be harder going still." Which is totally Boethiah's sphere. Maybe Nerevar is more a champion than an actual physical son of Boethiah?

As for the thing with Meridia, seems more like some sort of sorcery - maybe manipulation of the creatia that would become Umaril to give him Daedric properties? Or meddling with his soul/the Dreamsleave? The lesser Daedra have souls, so it would be possible that perhaps Meridia stuck a Daedroth's soul in Umaril's body. The Daedric Princes can choose whatever form they want, and thus have no genders and no way of procreating in the usual sense of the process. I'm sure they can, ah, have a 'good time' with created erm 'bits' as seems to have been the case with Hrormir and the 'Hag' Nocturnal in http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Song_of_Hrormir. Assuming the Hag is Nocturnal.

I could be wrong, though.

there was a book I read ingame once that made mention of this I believe the name was "notes on racial phylogeny and biology" which states "Though there have been many reports throughout the Eras of children from these unions, as well as stories of unions with daedra" though it only mentions storys of it no actual documentation.

I always thought that nerevar was boethias son because that line said so. I know that some things can be figurtive but I didnt think that this one was.

That book is called Notes on Racial Phylogeny and Biology, Seventh Edition. And it doesnt say that mortals and daedra have had offspring. It says that there have been stories about them but no actual documented cases.

Daeaedra are made of a divine substance, and mortals of a mundane stuff. Common sense may say that there is a difference there that mau not be productive. Nerevar/Nerevarine were exceptions, prescribed by a purely (Daedric) essemces. Peloni; was similar in this regard. So, I doubt that Daedra have an ability to procreate in our understanding.

Bear in mind, though, that Vehk and Bal "created" the generations of vampires, so, there is, no doubt a creative element in that equation.

But that may have been the Aedric element of Vivec's divinity, though.

I've done a lot of reading about Nerevar but somehow I never came across that. I learn something new every day in this forum. :)

When you are talking about daedra don't forget that:

More about Aedra - Daedra

"Sons and daughters of" should be read as associates of/associated with, especially insofar as this association was a conscious choice.

Aren't mortals diluted descendants of et'Ada? They are beings of the same nature if of different stature. I see no reason interbreeding with the daedra should be impossible, at least on those grounds.

Purified form through communion with Lord Dagon?

I can't remember if it does explicitly say if Mankar's mother was a Bosmer.

Because it would have been silly if the mighty and dangerous Mankar Camoran was a short, silly-looking Bosmer like Fargoth and Gaenor. :P

That would have made OB about 50 times better.

And instead of his two children, replace them Fargoth and Adoring Fan. And have that one dremora in paradise you have to defeat to get those bracers be Gaenor.
