Okay, I have to know... is that a real sculpture?

Elsethread we've been discussing the significance of the imagery, but the mural itself is a breathtaking work of art! Is it a physical artifact? Even as a digital painting it's amazing, but if it's real I'd almost consider a trip to Maryland to see it firsthand.

I'm fairly sure it's a computer generated image.

I doubt it's real. But it's possible.

well, a big dragon DOES pop out and shoot stone fire
while the trailer was, indeed, very cool to look at, I wish they had been less mysterious D:

No, the trailer's CGI, it'd cost way too much to actually make it.

Would be cool though...

I would not doubt if there was actually a 3d mold made to work off of, just as all the monsters from the original Doom games. There are a lot of things that have sculpted counter parts that one wouldn't imagine (such as the aforementioned Doom monster molds, which have AMAZING quality, by the way).

Looks like it probably was done in Z-Brush.

All of the heads in Fallout were clay sculpted originals, imported into Lightwave as meshes using a laser scanner.

I thought it was awesome; it got everyone excited and created mass speculation.

No, it doesn't. That dragon is not part of the mural, it's overlaid on top. The fire is, too. There are distortion effects and yes, there's a CG dragon, but as far as I can see it's all added to the mural. Nothing in the static image actually changes.

Anyway, I wasn't asking for speculation. I'm looking for the Bethesda tag in replies, and I don't see it yet. ;)

if Bethesda had a 3d printer they could print it, and it would be a real carving

Still not a carving, but it would be physical :P

If the game sells well, I bet they will make a real sculpture out of this and put it in their HQ. Cool eye-catcher!
