Okay here is a odd question

Post » Mon Jan 17, 2011 5:57 pm

I was wondering how many people that role play games have given their character their name? Or even a name of someone in real life?

I have done this when I create a character and the face kinda looks like me... Or when I know the character is gonna be a hunter for the simple reason I am unable to hunt anymore or it allows me to forget about real life and lets me escape in the game. Most of the time I find it relaxing to be able to put myself in another world.

Yes, I often try to roleplay myself in any RPG especially Oblivion.

I could never roleplay as myself, and not just because it wouldn't be a role. I'm too closely tied with the lore and the nature of the TES universe when I play. Including myself would be ridiculous. I was not born and raised in Tamriel, but if I was, I would be a completely different person than the one that is sitting here typing this. Imagining the person I am now suddenly thrown into the TES universe would be an exercise in futility. I would be so thrown off by cat- and lizard-people walking around and fireballs being hurled from people's hands and all that good stuff that I'd probably run into the nearest cave to hide in a corner and cry, only to encounter a small group of trolls and then I'd get murdered immediately.

So yeah, it would be impossible for me to roleplay as myself. Even if it wasn't impossible, I wouldn't even want to.

And I would never name a character after myself, because my name is not a lore-appropriate name for any of the races, and things like that are important to me.

Nah, I play these games to escape from reality and immerse myself in a new world, the last thing I want is to be 'myself' in them. Takes away from the fantasy aspect.

I could never role play myself as I always play female characters and well I am a male.

As cliche as this may sound I have made a personal character giving him my name to imagine what it would be like if I were in Cyrodiil. I often fantasize about plunging a dagger into my foes silently in the shadows. lol Sorry getting into character again but Yes I often do role play as myself in Oblivion or any RPG for that matter

It just... Wouldn't work for me... I'd become a nord or a breton, though i don't like when its hot, or cold. I'd rather be an altmer, and that name would never become lore-correct. Not that it would be if I where a breton. But, no, I play oblivion more to jump away from this. :tes:

I've never given a character my own name.

I've given them some random ass cheesy names though, when I was younger. For instance, I had a Dunmer called Nephren-Ka, which IIRC means "soulless one" in Egyptian or Ancient Egyptian. But yeah. Nowadays I use lore correct names because I prefer it that way *shrug*

I tried to in Fallout, but it just felt awkward. Mostly because threre really isn't a choice for what i would do. As such it is easier to me play a ficitional character with archetypical personalities than a myself.

As for names, they have always been a problem for me, but now i've setteld on names for the three characters i mostly play, in OBlivion they have names that sound correct (though it's possible they're getting laughed at for them when i'm not looking :P)

I have made a character with my name and what I would pick for myself twice, once in Arcanum, and back in 2007 in Oblivion.

Never made a character with my name, mainly because portuguese names don't really fit into the ambient of TES :P If I had a scandinavian, british or french name, I might, but still not likely, since I love the part about making the character.

If you are asking if I roleplay as my real-life me got teleported into the game or anything like that, nope, I never did that. But the characters I make will often have some semblance of my own personality, and act acordingly. But myself? Nay, and I don't think I could ever do that eheh

I spent three decades of my real life as a paladin in service to the Order of the Eagle, Globe and Anchor. I do not wish to repeat that life in Oblivion. Yet, I would be foolish not to offer my insights on survival in a violent world to my young character. Therefore, I travel with her, offering occasional advice. Occasionally, she takes it. She, on the other hand, has taught me much about viewing one's world through the prism of being small and vulnerable.

I tend to inhabit my characters, as it were, but the entire point is they are someone completely different, and having characters who cast spells, are female, and aren't human goes a long way toward that end. Who wants to meet an Altmer Enchantress called Paul?

Arcanum is the best game ever. (That's where the name "Velorien" comes from!)

Lothran for the first years had my name which is a Scandinavian one. Later though he revealed his true name to me and has kept it ever since.

I don′t think I really RP as myself, but more in the sense of what would Lothran do in any given situation

My character "Glargg" is a close physical representation of myself; I'm a large male "Nord." My avatar is a sketch of a barbarian fantasy version of myself.

I would not be a very interesting character. I would be a farmer or tradesman in Oblivion. The most exciting part of my day would be chasing all the adventurers out of my garden.

Lol. Buffy met a huge Nordic fellow who ran a store called 'Olaf's Fine Armours'. Now she shall think of you when she visits him! :wavey:

If I was to RP myself it would be the most boring game I could possibly imagine. My day would entail tending my garden, a trip to the tavern for a meal and a few pints, then reading by the fire.

Hey man sometimes its nice to be able to go into a different world for just a few moments, imagining what it would feel like to live in such ways. Even if it is to live the life of a simple farmer and enjoy the beauty of it. (RP Mods FTW) I think this game was the first of its kind to immerse the player into its world. I dunno...Its just my opinion

My response was a bit tongue-in-cheek. I honestly wouldn't know where to begin on how to RP myself in Cyrodiil. Guess I would do what I do in RL and sell seafood. Scratch that idea. Pretty much limited to slaughterfish and mudcrabs. Oh well, back to the tavern for a beer.

Ha ha, this. Yea I could never play as myself. Who wants to play a character who lives off of Haagen-Dazs, french fries, and has a cat for a best friend? lol.

Heres me in Oblivion: she runs up into the Imperial City, tries to shack up with Claudette Perrich, and is done with it! That being said, I have chosen a name similar to my real-life one, since my real name happens to be Renee. :)

I made a character based on myself for teh lols, but the name and appearance is about as far as it went (not that she really looks like me anymore). For example, I can't say I ever have and most likely ever will save the world or become the head of a magician's guild, a fighter's guild, and/or an assassin's guild. I can't even leap a fence in a single bound.

I'm not really a Role-Player or a person who's huge on Lore, but playing a character exactly like me seems too unrealistic, and probably boring for me.
