okay so how annoying is the MM stuff ?

Post » Fri Mar 18, 2016 3:58 am

its about time i finished the game

i cant go RR or BOS as i have to destroy one for the other (and i dont want to just avoid kells and have every RR member talk about glory being dead) which i wont do

and i simply dont support the institiute

that leaves the MM, fair enough i like them and would support them, but how annoying is all that radio freedom [censored]? i have read alot about it and it just sounds horrific. constant baby sitting and dealing with constant kidnappings over and over and over and over and over again really sounds like it ruins the game.

i could never ignore my settlers plight so i would have to do it, they are all my buddies guy

have the patches addressed this?

at the moment preston is waiting outside castle where hes been since i was like lvl 15 (im 58 now), i said yes to him thinking im just saying "yes ill do it" and he ran off there.

it has been great so far as i ofcourse dont get any quests from him and i guess cause he is technically on a quest none of the settlement quests he has given me have auto completed and im just gaining them in my own time.

i dont want to ruin this, as apart from the very odd settlement defense mission i actually get to play the game how i want and go where i want when i want.

from what ive read so far it really sounds like if i do the castle mission and go on with the minute men id either shelve FO4 for good and start rocking back in forth for the next 3 months, or start a new character and avoid them like the plague

is it really that bad??

I'm sure you can turn Radio Freedom off, or scrap it after completing the appropriate quest. You only hear the radio if you are either 1) inside the Castle or 2) keeping the radio station itself on in your Pip Boy. Otherwise, it's completely avoidable. And I believe you only ever get a maximum of three settlement quests at a time before a new batch is given by Preston or Radio Freedom.

MM and Preston ruined the game for me.. I had to put them down or just not play..

Seriously..

They might be a good faction but I cannot stomach Preston and his Multitude of ram it down my throat quests..

I would throw the disc at the wall with great pleasure just to hear it shatter if I had to play the MM..

I'm told though that they are not "killing everyone" as much as the others.. I think though that everyone does destroy the Institute.

I think you will still get those.

-edit-

I get them without the MM.

I've heard of many people sending Preston to an isolated settlement to avoid getting quests from him. Or simply not rescuing him and his group from the museum. None of these are things I've actively done, but enough people have commented on this topic for me to know that these tactics work.

yeah i know about that with preston and sent him to different settlements in other characters and just had three uncollected quests from him

but what ive read/heard is once you do the castle mission the settlers themselves start giving you quests (like kidnapping) whenever you go near your settlements

Ah, I wasn't aware of that last bit. The only MM quests I have, even after completing "Taking Independence" are the three quests given randomly by Preston. I suppose I haven't been playing often enough.

yeqah thats how i feel too lol, and being im not really a fan of this installment i dont need anything that will push me over the edge lol

yeah they do, all factions end is destroying the institute

i believe though as the institute you dont have to destroy the MM, i dont even think its an option?

In my game Prestons quests have slowed to a crawl. I don't know if he's bugged in my game, or whether most people have gotten so used to avoiding him that they haven't noticed he was fixed. Either way, I'm not complaining.

Patch 1.4 has removed a significant number of "Help the settlement quests" from both Preston and Radio Freedom. However, you will still get them if you have "unaligned" settlements, aka those you've yet to visit and set up.

The attack on the settlement random has also been improved. If you set up your areas well enough, they seem to take better care of themselves without you having to be there. If you don't show up, a small window will appear indicating if the settlement fended off the attack or took some damage.

The best advice I can give for those who really don't want to be bothered is set up Sanctuary, and only visit it when you need to (after a certain number of settlement builds, Preston will go to the Castle upon your command).

The extremely best advice, if you don't want to deal with Preston at all, is don't even go to Concord. You don't need the MM to set up settlements and you can meet up whenever you want after that.

The MM stay alive regardless of which faction ending you choose. They are a "neutral" faction, for all intents and purposes.

im completely talking about after the castle and doing MM for MQ

im fine with settlements, im fine helping them to get access etc and when i run accross them, i dont mind preston and having the 3 unturned in quests for him

i like settlements and i like my settlers. i enjoy building them up and decorating them

in every character ive played with i have built up and maintained all settlements i find

what im not fine with (this is what ive read) is after radio freedom the settlers themselves will constantly giive you quests anytime you are there. multiple kidnapping and constantly and same ones with same bad guys in same area. that would drive me nuts

i dont have any of that at the moment becasue i havnt done castle, im not interested in the MQ nor the whole son thing so ihavnt bothered with it, its just ive had the game since day one and its about time i completed it.

because of how the quests are the only faction i could do so with is the MM

but to do so i must complete the castle

what ive read is doing this turns the game into a giant chore, i dont want this. im asking is it really as bad as what ive read (and wheteher the patches have made it better)

The settlement quests are part of the radiant quests from Preston, even if he didn't speak to you directly. Prior to patch 1.3, I would have a settler come up to me and ask to help out. After 1.3, I haven't seen it happen once.

1.4 fixed Preston's nagging (he still does it, but no where near as bad as it was), and this was probably possible because of the 1.3 fix.

In short: I don't think you're going to be bothered by them anymore.

PS: the "Settlement under attack" pop-ups seem to have increased. I got 5 in a row two days ago! Thank goodness we don't have to be there for them. :)

Complete the quests but when it say "report to Preston" don't turn them in. That will end the quests.starters

I don't understand why they didn't record a "no" option for the MM quest like everyone else. The MM isn't a bad faction but they done the worse why possible.

If you're trying to start the Minutemen nuclear option then you've gotta get banished from the institute first.

It's fine. Peoples' major complaints is just that the quests keep coming whether you want them or not - but there's virtually no major consequence for ignoring them. All you'll really want to do is build up the Castle so that it's defensible against attacks that'll come for it, and set up artillery in the best places (minimum five if you want to take out the Brotherhood after the main quest) if you like having artillery strikes. The quests are boring, but they're good XP and loot.

I am 100% fully invested in the Minutemen during my 3rd play through. Preston is my husband and even wears the Wedding Ring!! :D I even leave Radio Freedom on in my Castle. I actually love the fact to hear the announcer and the patriotic music. The Minutemen are back and in full force! It's my most satisfying play-through yet.

Preston is kind and gentle, but also courageous. And I'm so very glad that I rescued him, not only from Concord, but also from himself. He also lives at the Castle, where he belongs. He's my 2nd in command. :)

When I complete a settlement quest, I turn it in to Preston and all my character says, what now? And Preston doesn't even reply, he doesn't give me any new quests. I get them usually from Radio Freedom (and yes, you can turn that off). If Preston says something, when I approach, it's usually something sweet. Like: I'm not going anywhere, I will be here as long as you will have me or just a simple Hi Babe! :D

I don't even remember if I had a kidnapping quest so far. These are easily resolved anyway. I just pay the ransom. LOL

Also, when the defend your settlement notification pops up, I actually have quite some time, before I head there. And if I don't go there, it will auto complete and it won't actually say I failed it. It just says, defend X settlement completed. Either way, all my settlements have ultra high defenses (all over 100), and all my settlers pack some serious heat. So, I'm not really worried about them.

Everyone at the Castle is in Minutemen outfits. It feels good to have build a force to be reckoned with, to unite the local farmers and make them stronger, to give them hope and provide stability in such an unstable world.

Minutemen all the way! :fallout:

omfg... If you have ocd, you probably shouldn't play this game. I dont get how hard it is to ignore the damn quests in your log. Oh no Preston gave me a job to do... now I have to do it or the NPC's will hate me for a little while until I go there and decide on my own terms to do a quest for them to re-gain their support. Oh no... I cant handle seeing "quest failed" at the top left of my screen! Oh no I didnt turn the door knob 5 times before I left my house!!!! AHHHHGGHHGHHHH!!

From Sanctuary Hills I went directly to the Railroad (arriving at Level 3).
Have now finished the Main Quest with the Railroad. Level 60.
I never spoke two words to any BoS guys... and they're mostly gone now.

I did speak to Preston Garvey - but I never joined.
This playthrough has been great! Very entertaining, lots of fun, and no Minutemen anything, heheh...

But I have now decided - at Level 62 - to JOIN THE MINUTEMEN!
So far it's excellent. Lots to do... and I now have the resources and the caps to do it 'right'.

But joining the Minutemen right at the beginning? As I did in my previous playthrough?
Not a chance.
Now every settlement I go to, I have already claimed - and they all have zero inhabitants.
Much calmer this way...

I'm the odd one out that I don't find Preston, Radio Freedom or the MM all that bad or annoying. I quite like them.

I don't mind them, either. I just realize that managing settlements takes quite a bit of time and resources, especially at the beginning. A little voice inside me is irked at seeing a bunch of extra quests in my quest log sometimes, but I know that most I can put aside until I'm ready to tackle them. In all honesty, I may one day make a new character where I do very little MM interaction until the end of the game, like some other people here have done. It can be overwhelming for a low-level character.

You are not alone! :)

I joined the MM on my first character, but at that time, I didn't really know what I was doing. Plus, during a first play through, everything seems overwhelming, so much to do, so much to see and then you get a constant barrage of quests. A lot of the settlement quests were also located in higher level areas. I'm also a completionist and I wanted my first play through to be perfect. LOL I really didn't like the fact when I saw all these 'failed' quests.

Now, my 2nd character didn't join the MM and only joined the BoS for a brief period, she was all about the RR. Looking back, that whole play through felt hollow and strange.

As I said above, my current character is 100% committed to the MM and all is right with the world again! I mellowed out and won't let the defend quests bother me too much. Plus, they definitely toned down Preston (sorry hubby, but you did have an annoying way about you in your past, I'm glad you changed *smooches*) :D
