Would you like to see old people looking sick and walking with canes?

Well perhaps I think it'd be interesting to see "elderly" NPC's a little bit hunched over, though I'd be interested in finding some old man with a cane you try to kill and it turns out he's infact absurdly skilled and just beats your sword wielding ass with said cane.

Not necessarily, "ooh me lumbago's giving me gip, and what with this cold weather and all, good job the God's reward the faithful, best go to the chapel and get healed" = deep recession for the walking stick industry.

This is one of those way-too-specific things I don't feel adds anything. I doubt it'd be in, and I can't see them adding it.

However, I'm sure there'll be a mod. There's a mod for everything.

Or at least have different body types.. I always found it hilarious in Oblivion how a seemingly weak little old man had a six pack under his clothes (not that I looked or anything  )

I bet someone tried to see if Uriel had a six pack.
Anyway I don't mind the old idea, but on further thought I can really only see it for extremely unique/important NPCs.

And young adventurers should have to chop wood and finish their homework before they're allowed to kill bandits. ;-) People age very differently, The Might and Magic series had aging as a gameplay element, but it also had a system that scored your playthroughs based on how efficiently you played, sort of the opposite of TES's do what you want philosophy.

I would like to see walking sticks, but don't think that elder people should walk badly.
I know personally a lot of people who are pretty damn old and walk and act perfectly normal.
Old people that walk funny is a stereotype I would like TES to avoid.

Lol. Dragon Age 2 has this issue to the extreme. Old people look like attractive young people with gray hair. Combined with the fact that all the women have the same huge boobs, I kept trying to see my character's mom as an older lady, but kept thinking "huh. she's actually kinda hot."

I don't need them to have their own walking animation. I just need them to be believable as old people.

I think that they will since, if I'm not wrong, we will have body options in character creation so I think that not every NPC will have a perfect 6-pack, but we will see some chubby ones also.

Exactly.

"Hey Todd what's next on the list before we can release Skyrim?" "fix the Old People!!!!!!".

Not everyone who gets old gets sick/weak/unable to walk...

Besides, pretty sure all male NPCS will be sportin' abs. lol xD

Oh dear me... really? O.o

Well, only if I can kick the cane away and watch them fall over, and then I'll have to face the consequences of that action because they will have broken a few bones or w/e and will be bedbound for a few weeks. Plus I'll have to pay a fine.

lol, since when do old people always look sick and walk around with canes? :P maybe in skyrim they could do this in small isolated villages or something but its unlikely

A few thoughts...

1) Don't stereotype: yes, bodies can change as well as mobility. However, to break the stereotype, my next door neighbor is 84, still climbs his roof to shovel off the snow and chops firewood. :lifter:

2) It'd be interesting to actually have some depth to the characters, both physically and personality-wise

3) Eh, but not something I'd be too interested in overall when compared to adding depth of dialogue, story, or brain exercise.

4) Howzabout folks in Dwemer self-propelled wheelchairs! It's not too far fetched...wasn't there a Dwemer in a wheelchair in Morrowind? Ohhh and then I could knock off the owner, steal the chair, use crafting to soup it up with storage and a supercharger....Hey! Quit looking at me like that! :stare: ;)

Yes, I want some of the old people to look like that. 2-3% of the total would be fine, for variation sake. I'm more interested in how all the population will vary in appearance, not just the old.

I gotta ask, whats up with everyone expecting extreme realism from a fantasy-universe? In most cases these suggestions does not add anything to the game.

I really cant understand why anyone would want Bethesda to use money&time on things like:

- old people walking badly
- you shouldnt be able to run forever
- clothes to keep you warm in Skyrim
- every item should have a usefull purpose (unlike the much loved paint brush in Oblivion. )
- have children
- be a child
- have a wife
- having a pet
- decorating your own house
- have a garden you grow things in
- you have to eat
- swimming in cold water should affect.....
- ability to write a book
- death sentence(to the man who will/has saved the skyrim)
- innvite NPC over to your house for cake and tea.

And jesus [censored] christ the list goes on and on. There is no end to all these suggestions.

Actually, if Skyrim is engaged in a civil war, there could be quite a few folks experiencing lameness, many of them young. Including a noticable number of disabled veterans could actually be rather powerful, moreso than arthritic elderly.

Great question! But better for a different topic of its own ;)

On topic:

What else...

Why just have elderly "look old". why not have a variety in the personalities...as in the old crotchety "get off my lawn" types, the story spinner, the wise ones, the mentors, etc. Erm, why not have depth for many more NPC's?

Oh, wait, that'd require more dialogue, and more time to create personalities. ;)

That would be hilarious!

"Hey, old man--give me your gold, or I'll run you through!"

(Old man looks up slowly...) "I wouldn't do that if I were you."

(young guy laughs) "What are you gonna do, use your wimpy little cane on me?"

"As a matter of fact, yes!" (old man whips cane up and goes kung fu on young guys ass)

Not the best rendition, but it would be great to see! There are some older folks who can really surprise you. :D

Oh, come now--be honest. You were looking... ;)
But yes, I must agree with you there.

This is very true. While it would be good for them to make SOME older people have weaker bodies, many older men and women (especially nowadays) can be incredible fit and healthy, given their advanced age. I think walking sticks for some of them would be a nice addition, but certainly not for all of them, and I would definitely not want to see them using stereotypes of any kind for any of the characters... :)

One could argue that people losing their ability to walk is because we have so many alternatives to walking nowadays. One does not lose that which is regularly practiced unless it is taken away... like locational damage for example.

disease is another. they could easily add it though, heck a mod added it in some way to Oblivion. (Personality Idles).
