Old players opinion's of Skyrim?

We recently had the "http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1382424-new-players-opinion-of-oblivion/" thread here in general discussion http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1382424-new-players-opinion-of-oblivion/

What I want to know is:

What do you 'old-time' Oblivion players who have ALSO bought and played Skyrim, think of it?

I realize that, superficially, the Skyrim forums might seem to be the better place to post this thread. But I'd disagree with that assessment.

I'm more interested to hear from the long-time and still active _OBLIVION_ players about what THEY think of Skyrim.

I have no doubt we could muster some very indepth discussions of the pros and cons of Steam. Suffice to say, that is not what I'm asking about, and not what I hope this thread becomes.

I am just curious about Skyrim. And I don't must mean superficial like 'Its good. You should get it."

I would like to read an indepth and knowledgeable synthesis of what Skyrim is like and how it compares to Oblivion (both good and bad) from someone who really knows and loves Oblivion and also has played Skyrim intensively. I can of course watch Youtube videos of the game until the cows come home, but there is nothing quite like hearing what a seasoned expert has to SAY about a game.

Perhaps I may actually feel sufficient pull to give in to my consumerism and come over the Steamside . .

. . .

Nah! Probably not!

But I'm curious to hear what Skyrim is like nonetheless!

A discussion thread about Skyrim does belong in Skyrim General. I do understand your reasons for posting this here, but sections aren't intended to be separate homes for different Elder Scrolls communities, they're divided by topic. Although it seems like the topic you're actually interested in is Steam, and in that case this should move over to the http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1382539-unofficial-steamdrm-discussion-28/

I'm clearly not unbiased in my opinion, but I'll say this: I avoided Steam like the plague until we neared the release of FONV, which finally convinced me to try it out. And I love it. I'm still not thrilled with digital distribution, or combining it with DRM, and I'm particularly not looking forward to a future where I need several such programs installed to play games. However I have found that I really enjoy Steam and I think Valve handles it well. As for Skyrim itself, I never played Oblivion all that much (my computer couldn't handle it, and by the time I could play it FO3 was only a few months away). However I played a lot of Daggerfall and Morrowind and I've had a great time with Skyrim.
