Go old school with FO! Isometric & Turn-based!

Post » Sat Apr 11, 2009 12:20 am

Make the world HUGE! .. something complex around every corner, behind every rock! Extremely wide variety of weapons, crafting up the yin-yang!! ... RANDOM ENCOUNTERS! .. PC gangs battling for control of territory/townships ..

Believe me gamesas, 'everyone' who has played the original trio LOVES the game-play .. f*** World of Warcraft, and all the mindless .. childish WoW wannabes ... the quests in the original fallout games rocked!

Fallout 3 is great, but I never felt the same degree of immersion inside that engine, as I did with the original isometric trio! At the very least make it optional, as with Neverwinter Nights!

Like always I dont want to sound like an ass but turn-based wouldnt work well in an MMO. >_< I dont think I would want to find my self sitting in a party for 2 hours waiting for joeshmo to deside how he wants to spend his 4 extra AP. lol Image

Not APs .. it can be turned-based/realtime .. as with Fallout 3. You obviously can not do APs, like Fallout 1 & 2, in a shared environment.

Anyway, that was not my 'main point' .. the closer to the original experience, the better .. period.

See now your talking time based and not turn based. I would kind of like to see it be somewhat like Fallout Tactics was. Its time based and it still has AP. Moves and actions still take up AP. Image

I like Fallout Tactics style Real Time of combat alot more than the turb-based combat of F1 and F2. Except when it came to Melee characters such as the Deathclaws. I'd often move the Deathclaw a hexagon out of melee range, then move on to manage the rest of the group not realizing that my deathclaw would get pwnd because he wasn't smart enough to take a step closer and take the baddie out.

Fallout Tactics was a great game but it lacked the depth of play of F1 and F2 (no dialouge, and alot of extraneous skills and flavor was cut out) but what really disappointed me was the multiplayer. It wasn't really an issue of who played better, but who designed the best squad with the best equipment using templates from before the game even started. There was really no balance at all, and it was impossibly hard to find a match (even though Gamespy still has a room dedicated, I've never seen anyone in there)

All I really want from V13 could be attained by Modding Fallout Tactic's Multiplayer into having a Persistant World, and all the features from F1 and F2 (and having a character that you have to play to level up instead of clicking a button).

i played FO:T in multiplayer really long ago (like 2005) when there were still some serious games but not much. like 2-3 game rooms at a time and they were about doctor/sneak/pancorjackhammer/5 voodoo matches in 1v1 or 2v2
abolutely luck-based, who gets the first sight of some1 else and crit-wins

ps: i agree to be like FO:T's isometric view and AP system, but the multiplayer needs to be redesigned and coming up with new ideas. looking forward for another block-buster for u guys at gamesas. you deserve it

Personally I do not think Fallout MMO should be the old school Isometric. Don't get me wrong it was good and worked when fallout first came out. I don't think it would sell very well. Now don't take this the wrong way I am not trying to start a flame war or say that the game wont sell. I'm trying to look at it as this is probably gamesas's last shot....if it fails they are will more then likely be forced to shut their doors for good. No coming back from the dead like last time. If this doesn't sell..... it's game over for gamesas. I for one am a massive gamesas fan, while it would be great to have the old school feel for nostalgia sake ..... i would rather have gamesas around making games for years to come then have the last game please my old school craving. It can always include isometric view as one of several options available, like BioWare's Dragon Age. The Vault - Fallout Wiki * Fallout Online * Fallout IRC Channel * Fallout: New Vegas

Maybe if there was a time restriction to go with it. You have, say, a minute to use your AP before you get skipped.
Also, maybe if they did something like Guild Wars, where each party gets it's own "world" to play in so your turn based battles wouldn't slow everything down for the rest of the world. That could also lead to some interesting random encounters where you walk into another party's fight in the middle of it.

I don't think Turn based combat could really work in a MMO its inherently made too give the player time too think about His/Her next move allowing a player too oust an opponent using more brains than stats..... I doubt you'll see a turn based MMO ever. It just doesn't make sense having a game pause when your playing with other people for 5-10 seconds. Also they'd chase away possible customers with such an idea though it would be novel and different and certainly mold breaking.

well its both turnbased and realtime, player chosen gameplay. Pvp is not turn based unless pvpers runs into a player doing pve in turnbased Image

FO 2238 is a cult game, yes the system works but 'I'(This is an opinion) think that as a marketable product (at the end of the day gamesas does want to make a GREAT game and a bit of cash) it'd chase away potential customers.

Who knows maybe a Real time/Turn based MMO would create a great player base, most(haha I mean all) of what I'm saying is opinion, but I believe that majority of players out there would get a little frustrated at a turned based inside a game these days.

As for the Isometric view thing, I think it can be done again, if its done right, but considering what appeals too most gamers these days umm...... yeah, they like being inside the world up close and personal and all the pretty shinies in the games they play, so if its isometric, well it'd have too be a mind blowing isometric, I like the idea of something like the Dragon age system where you can switch between that currently very popular over the shoulder view too that top down view.
