Old Skool Fallout Armour in FO NV

Post » Wed Oct 27, 2010 6:51 pm

They look nothing alike, yet the FO2 Enclave helmet and shoulders always remind me of the first aliens in Fifth Element. :bonk:

(The more I look at it, the more that alien looks like Supermutant power armor )

lol they do. Well at least the form and the type of head. though the bodies are not on-par with their heads.

Remember fifth element came on a few days ago,
CGI is ok I miss actual props and costumes for movies.
(kinda jumped subject but thats what I think when I see movies like that)

The official (NV Enclave) mesh ~as I understand it, must use the same skeleton as the other armors... Clipping will be brutal I bet (some is visible in the screenshot).

I am having a challenging time myself at this.... I doubt I'll ever get the missile launcher to not clip entirely through the shoulder. ~but its close. :)

Have you textured it yet? I'm interested how it compares to the official one :)

I'm actively working on it... but I'm also still tweaking the mesh, and the weights; trying to finish it as soon as I can.

Power armor clipping was a problem in Fallout 3 as well; there's nothing that can really be done about that without giving each unique set of power armor a separate skeleton with its own animations.

I don't think the clipping on the New Vegas Advanced Power Armor looks much worse than what was already present in Fallout 3 though. Most of the clipping seems to be because the player is aiming the rifle; I Imagine that it will be less problematic when you're just standing around or walking and running.

Clipping is only ever an issue when your character is moving around or aiming their weapon. The standard idle pose usually doesn't have any clipping issues at all unless you're using 2 incredibly mismatched armors. Clipping isn't even that bad in 3rd person as long as you don't stop, zoom in, and scrutinize.

They're bringing back the bug suit? I hate the bug suit. I vastly preferred Fallout 3's Enclave armor.

Anyone have any idea what the weapon he was using was? It looks just like the Multiplas Rifle, except with glowing green tubes sticking out of the side. Maybe it's a modded Multiplas Rifle. And the armor is way more awesome in its "bug suit" form.

Indeed, I was never particularly fond of the devil suit from Fallout 3. It was far too generic looking, and screamed "I'M EVIL!" which doesn't really mesh with the Enclave's self image; they see themselves as saviors not as villains. The "bug suit" is more alignment-neutral (it looks menacing, but doesn't scream evil), and from an art standpoint it is far more unique and imaginative.

Devil suit? Evil? Generic? From an art standpoint, Fallout 2's suit looks like an oversized, hunchbacked bug. Fallout 3's just looks like advanced armor. The first showing of Fallout 2's Enclave armor that most people see is the video of the Enclave soldier mercilessly shooting innocent civilians as they exit a vault with a close-up to the Enclave armor's stoic eye lenses as they flash with the reflection of gunfire. How does the Fallout 3 Enclave armor look generic or more evil?

Because it's another example of Bethesda trying to "spruce things up" compared to the original games. There was nothing wrong with the Advanced Power Armor from FO2, nobody complained about it, so why change it? In fact, the FO3 Enclave armor looks more like the Midwestern Brotherhood Power Armor from Fallout Tactics.

If it had been named differently then people might like it more, but this is the George Lucas approach of taking something people love, changing it and insisting that's what it's supposed to look. Change the stuff that people want changed, fix what's broken, but don't touch what people love!

Disagree on the stance of no enclave remnants. I'd like a tiny base somewhere with the ability to help them. Maybe their anti-wastelander policy subsided to a more gentler policy.

You're associating the first depiction of the Enclave with their armor itself. The fact that the Enclave was first depicted as shooting civilians doesn't really mean that the armor itself looks evil (while I personally do think it looks a little bit more intimidating than the T-51b).
Also, the APA being bulky was consistent with the depiction of the T-51b in Fallout.

I won't really comment about genericness, since I find it's become a bit of a buzzword, but I think that the APA MkII as depicted in Fallout 3 looks a little bit less retrofuturistic. (I didn't mind the look of the Hellfire armor though.)

Well we could start with the evil spikiness. The whole thing was incredibly evil looking and impractical compared to the cleaner cut ones from Fallout 2. The Fallout 2 version of the Advanced Power Armor Mk II looked great compared to the old T-51b, while the Fallout 3 version looked like something more akin to Daedric Armor.

And let the obnoxious 4 paged Teal Deer debate on why Fallout 1 and 2 are supposedly greater than Fallout 3 begin :banghead:

Cool. My hope is that the enclave aren't in. I'd like to find a settlement of ex-enclave soliders, and if you do a quest for them you will get the armor.

The black color scheme, glowing eyes and horns on the helmet definitely give off an evil 'black knight' vibe. I'm not saying that the Enclave's original power armor doesn't look evil at all, it certainly does look menacing compared to the T-51b but it's not a traditional 'evil' look, so it's not something anyone would automatically associate with an evil organization including the Enclave. There's no horns or glowing eyes, it's just an advanced model of power armor with an elongated gas mask, larger eye pieces for better vision, and more bulk to accommodate the more advanced technology.

Like I said before, I wouldn't mind them still being a small scattered faction with some small bases here and there.

^This or the theory that we get it from Arcade Gannon, I wouldn't mind seeing either however I personally liked the Enclave wouldn't mind hearing references or seeing more of them :tops:

Oh yeah, those are ALWAYS fun, same boring debates, same rage face from 'old fans' when 'new fans' have a logical defense. It's ridiculous to me.

As to how the Adv Mark I is obtained, it'd be cool to find a difficult to enter abandoned Enclave base similiar to Sierra Depot in F2

That http://gamesas.com/newsletter/images/falloutnv/screen03B.jpg from the first post is horrendous, the clipping is so bad that it is almost comical. Not just the shoulder piece but the tubes on the helm and the characters wrist. I come to expect such things from modders, not professionals. Also, need I mention the very low quality texture on that plasma rifle? I hope the image is a hoax.
