old style guns

Post » Wed Mar 09, 2011 12:17 am

No thanks
Defnitely crossbows though. They were in earlier TES games and have been found as far back as the 6th century BC in China

Crossbows were only in Morrowind, not any other Elder Scrolls game.

If you start adding gun-powder it is a given the world would have developed other major technologies, giving all sorts of problems with lore and in-world balance (yes, even the way magic works...)

Well, I think we should have guns, but instead of bullets they shoot bolts, they don't use gunpowder, and they're actually called crossbows.
OT: No...

No way. They do NOT fit the TES series. IMO It just would ruin the series.

This topic has been done to death, with the ashes now being burned further into nothingness. The consensus is an extremely NO, and I agree, with a feel, lore, and setting point of view.

Crossbows, perfectly fine.

ok i have never really liked swords and magic games, dont mind the movies though, im more into sci-fi, and other shooters, i,e Mass Effect, and fallout, but iam really looking foward to skyrim, and having guns in this game would be terrible, its the worst idea ever, as soon as i saw the thread i thought oh god who ever just posted this is going to be destroyed, but now i learn there are a few people that want guns, (cough) cod [censored].......i feel sorry for the people who are on here all time, becaue when fallout 3 and new vegas were about to come out there was a non stop amount of threads of little kids wanting their ACR, M16, MP5, and other crap, and it looks like the same is going to happen here except its even worse because this a fantasy game......

Everything else? NO, NO and NO.

Poor kid walked right into the vengeful scorn of the elder scrolls community. No guns. Ever. Crossbows yes. Spears oh please. Guns no. Never.

I prefer http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=umDr0mPuyQc. It matches my feelings about guns in Skyrim perfectly :)

I think eventually after a couple more games it could get there. Itd just have to do it really unique and interesting, instead of just jumping to renaissance/18th century mashup. Itd have to be somthing unique done with it. Skyrim, no, no guns, the setting isnt appropriate at all, I mean not even slightly. But eventually, after a couple more games exploring the differance provinces, When the scale of what games are capable above (years into the future, our current lineup will stay for awhile I can promise you) is much bigger, perhaps then, and ONLY then could it shift to the entierty of Tamriel with new styles of fighting, the outlying regions seding trading vassels, more 16th century stuff.

Again to clarify if that got muddled, no guns for skyrim, no guns for the next few games, but way down the line when all provinces have been explored and the world of Nirn truely opens up, then guns can come in

This is completely off topic but I always wanted to see muskets done in a cool way (first person of course). I'm a bit of a revolutionary/civil war nerd so it'd be cool to be lined up taking shots while the enemy advances over the crest of a hill. Fix bayonets .. hell yes. Calvary charges ... you know it. BUT ... I don't think that will ever nor should it ever happen in an elderscrolls game.

I wouldn't want this series to become Elder Scrolls with guns, but I think it'd be kind of cool if Skyrim or some future game had a gun. Like, a dwemer artifact hidden deep in some ruins. Or reward for completing a quest a particular way. Something like that. Not that I expect that to happen, though. And I'd probably ignore it and continue to use daggers. 'S'why I voted for the second and third options.

All these gun threads should be compiled as posts and put in a sticky thread, so people can be directed to it and see the general consensus around here.

Sad thing is, people ignore stickies as well...

Biased poll. You need the "HELL NO!!! KEEP GUNS OUT OF TES" option.

Poll speaks for itself, alchemical compounds that might explode on impact is the nearest to guns I want to see in Skyrim.

No, as stated by the developers Skyrim is low tech compared to say Oblivion which was almost Renaissance era.

Well I thought the elder scrolls was the middle ages. Not the 1700's...

The earliest guns were invented in the middleages.

However, for the one hundreth time. TES is not the middleages or any other age. It may bear the faintests of resemblance to the middleages, but it is FANTASY.

That aside, I don't want guns in TES.
