Old World Blues Power Armor

Post » Thu Jul 21, 2011 9:53 am

I loved everything about Old World Blues, but was disappointed by the new armor and clothing I mean there's tech all over the place and power armor was supposed to be the hight in defense technology at the time of the war,so why were there none at the Big Empty"a treasure box, a scientific graveyard of Old World misery" a quote from Father Elijah.

Because Power Armour is manufactured by one pre-war company, West-Tek, West-Tek had it's own facilities and contracts with the US Government; therefore there was no market for anybody else to research pointless power armour models dring the middle of a crippling war when the current model was effective.

But what about upgrades to existing models like the Medic power armor?

The "Tron suit" with all the upgrades and Enclave helmet give you 22dt, but it shoots you up with med x for like 24 dr. The 22dt24dr is probably better than pa. Plus with the +25 sneak +1 perception and what ever else it gives you, it is without a doubt the best piece of tech in the game. With the Enclave helmet....... IMO

Makes me wish I really got into a sneak character.

Exactly, they tested an improved version of the T45-d Power Armour that would automatically heal the user; given that the T45-d was then replaced by the T51-b we can guess that nothing came out of it. That was a modification to an existing model and still doesn't give any reason why Power Armour would be researched at Big MT when, again, Power Armour was being developed by one company, West-Tek, which held all of the contracts and given the state of the war and the insanely expensive projects like the Vaults the Government didn't have money to throw at everyone when current models were largely sufficient. The medic prototype was just that, a prototype, from which we can clearly see nothing substantional came.

I think they used T45-d for the prototype because they had a bunch lying around and no one would care if they ruined an obsolete set of power armor.

Why is it the only thing people want from DLC is power armor? After all the obsession I've seen around here with it, I'm sick of hearing the words power and armor together, and the model numbers.

If you don't have a PC, you have two choices, get a PC or get over not having any new Power Armor.

Thank you, that is all.

I find it absolutely hysterical that we all thought this would be the energy weapons and power armor DLC....

And then we find out that all of the weapons wielded by enemies in this DLC actually do BONUS damage against Power Armor. :P
I think Obsidian is trying to tell us that the Mojave is too lacking in the prescense of a technological society to have heavy duty, high-quality tech, so we should just work with what we've got.

The new Stealth Suit enhances speed, reflexes and mobility, comes with a built in medical system and integral stealth systems. By any other metric other than "big, slow and bulky" the Stealth Suit Mk II is a set of light powered armor. Stop standing atop a rock with a minigun and embrace the glory of silent running.

Big Mountain did plenty of research for the army as well - the giant robo-scorpion, nightstalkers, and the sneak suit were all originally intended for use in the war going by the various logs scattered around the Big Empty.

Besides, there was a securitron factory despite them having an institutional feud with RobCo. Clearly they're not above pirating other peoples' tech.

Honestly, the Big Empty is the most technologically advanced place we've seen in Fallout so far. It feels very disappointing that there's no PA.

Hell, I would have settled for the ability to rip the sneak suit's voice and stimpak dispenser out of that suit and cram it into my remnants PA and taken that as my "new" power armor. :P

There's already plenty of armor for sneaky characters - the Dragoon suit, the assassin suit, the Sierra Madre reinforced armor and Graham's vest (no bonuses to sneak, but they have a hell of a lot of DT for light armor, and light armor is better at sneaking...)

Characters who like heavy armor and power armor though... We don't have much. Brotherhood PA, that nets you kill on sight orders every time you come within view of the NCR. Ugly green T-51b PA. T-45d suits that don't provide much more DT than high end combat armor and take away two agility. The only decent suits of PA in this game are Remnants PA and its derivatives.

And non-powered heavy armor guys are just left totally out in the cold. They've got metal armor and reinforced metal armor, with HH they get gecko versions of these suits that look identical but have some more bonuses and that's it.

Maybe because we've gotten a constant barrage of new Light and Medium armors, but absolutely nothing on the Heavy end of the spectrum?

As somebody who enjoys using Heavy armor, it's really annoying to not get anything in three DLCs now while Light and Medium armors continue to pop up everywhere.
It doesn't even have to be power armor, but some kind of big, bulky armor suit would be nice.

Having a great stealth suit is all well and good, but if you prefer to crash through the front wall and go in guns blazing you haven't really gotten much in terms of usable armor from any of the DLCs.

The Lone Wanderer spits on your puny big empty, from his golden throne amongst his personal space palace of Mothership Zeta

@Caligula

Betheseda can't talk. They were massively biased the other way around, in the favor of power armor. Its just that a lot of us ex-fallout 3 players are used to having an almost indestructible suit of t-51 winterised by level four, and not understanding that its meant to be rare in the first place.

i know bethesda more or less murdered lore for the funsies i wont deny. But obsidian is supposed to be the granddaddy teaching the young ruffian whats what and yet their doing the same childish B.S.
If it was up to me id put atleast one type of armour class and weapon class in every dlc-if lore need to be slightly fringed upon for fairness then so be it
