Old World Blues - Will you take the new trait?

Post » Sat Oct 17, 2009 11:50 pm

Yes, another poll. But I thought we'd have a chat on the newest info on Old World Blues posted by Gstaff http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1185183-honest-hearts-screenshot-dlc-out-may-17/page__st__120:
Old World Blues will offer a new trait (and respec your traits if you've already chosen them) that will allow you to cap your level at 30 (or current level if you’re already over 30).

Each DLC increases the cap by 5, meaning that at the end of Lonesome Road you could be a frankly godlike level 50 (!). If you have Dead Money, I'm assuming you're level 35. Honest Hearts + Dead Money = level 40. http://bethblog.com/index.php/2011/05/03/details-on-honest-hearts-old-world-blues-and-lonesome-road/ reveals that Old World Blues is next in line, in June - realistically taking the trait will cap you at level 40, when you start the DLC. So, post Honest Hearts, when you're lingering somewhere about level 30, will you take the capping trait?

I play hardcoe Mode with my main character, but if all this new trait does is freeze my level I'll be very hard pressed to take it. I RP my Courier as the Lone Wanderer with plot convenient amnesia, so being an unstoppable unkillable messiah syncs well. Mind you, I'm an unstoppable unkillable messiah at level 35, and in Broken Steel at level 30 it was quite easy to be omni-competent at every weapon, fighting style and wasteland discipline.

I'll want to do at least one character at level 50. For other characters though I will certainly take it.

Although believe it or not, I've had Dead Money since release and I still don't have a level 35 character, the highest I got was 33. So given that information it'll probably take me ages to reach 50.

If there are perks with level requirements over 30 I may bite the bullet and keep on leveling, but otherwise I'm very interested in taking that trait.

I'm really on the fence about this. On one hand level 50 is way, way overkill. On the other hand, like most fallout players i'd assume, i have fun trying to design the best character within the game's limits, so i'd prefer balance over the ability to handicap myself.

I don't even know where i'd put all those extra skill points, i need less than 100 more to max out all skills.

I might take it but if there are any perks that are higher then 30 I'll pass. I only really use Good Natured as a Trait so this 2nd one would fit in nicely.

I've always been on the fence about the NV level debate. If you look at fallout 3, you got perks on every level, meanwhile, in NV, you only get them every other level. Sure, you still receive your +15 or whatever skill points, but there are significantly fewer books in NV as opposed to the "oh my god, they're everywhere" in FO3. Sure, NV has the magazines, but those are only temporary.

Even bumping it up to lvl 50, you're still only at an approximate lvl 25, perk wise, with FO3. To make it equal to those with the Broken Steel DLC for FO3, they'd have to bump it up to 60 (which I hope I never see, and I doubt I would anyway.) I haven't played FO3 that much, as ghouls in the subways terrify me, but I know that in NV you can learn skills after doing Activity X Y-number of times.

Plus, while NV has skill magazines, you still have all the FO3 bobbleheads to consider, too.

So maybe I'll go up to lvl50 in NV, or maybe I'll get bored of a character around lvl37 or lvl42. Who knows? I can't say for certain until I see the new gameplay that the DLCs offer.

Absolutely NOT.

All I've been wanting ever since hitting level 30 in the core game is a higher level cap (or the complete removal of such).

I'll be taking full advantage of all level cap increases.

No. I'll rebalance the game (yay mods) and have a nice long journey to level 50. Preserving challange + new content. Win-win.

nope, ill take the levels

1. i dont like to try the same thing more than once (unless its a different file that uses a different weapon type), after the 3rd try i just get bored. so i love being a demi-god

2. even if i did want challenging gameplay, i dont think i would want it in a game like TES or Bethfallout, these games are time-consuming enough as it is, especially the way i play them.

3. i dont really care if all my characters are the same, i dont role play. the only difference is the weapon type i use and what factions i support. but i still complete and collect everything i can except things that i need to hurt one of my factions to do/get

4. this is kind of still 3, but i want all my skills and specials maxed (except weapons i dont use), theres nothing i hate more than not being able to get something, go somewhere, or complete a task the way i want because of some stupid number

Yes, I'll cap myself at 30.
I will create one character that's going to go to 50 just to see how unbalanced the game becomes.

So, people still associate more levels with making the game easier. I see it as making the game longer, which is always better. Things get so boring once you reach the cap. No more XP, levelling up, progression.

And why do people assume that the next 15 levels will give us skill points? They're all going to be maxed long before level 50.

I'll take the cap, at level 40-50 you can pretty much have 100 in all stats

I'll cap it for 2 of my characters but I hope that they made the enemies level up with you. Have they released any info on that?

Yeah I'm capping myself, I have no idea where I could possibly find enough xp to reach level 50. 34 to 35 was impossible enough.

All my current characters will get to Level 37-40 (Honest Hearts DLC should get me to 37), and I'll take the trait then. I will attempt to make one perfect lvl 50 character sometime before Skyrim comes out, though.

I think the real trick for higher difficulty is to cap hit points and lessen them overall. Say you cease gaining hit points via leveling at 30 or 20.

Hmm, I dunno. I like my character at where he is at... I might not take the trait, though, because I'd probably want to check out the rest of the perks.

We'll see, I guess.

My most recent character went through Dead Money at L26 and came out at L31, so depending on how much XP is offered by the other DLCs I don't see it as being that hard to reach L50. Said character has reached Ring-a-Ding in the MQ line and is letting it sit, so there are plenty of XP 'in reserve' for him if needed in the base game as well.

Will I get any characters that high? Yes, mostly for testing purposes as I have modded certain aspects of leveling and will want to see the effects of any additions the DLCs provide in that area. Depending on how that goes I may well take the 'cap at 30' trait for subsequent characters, as having a 'perfect being'-type character gets old really quickly for me. If I don't take it there are certain perks I won't need anymore as there will be enough SP without them.

This also depends on what they do to increase difficulty for high-end characters, as there may be a need to have several really high skills at some points; hopefully not, but I'll have to see before making my decision.

I know on my Guns character, I will. I didn't select any traits.

On my Energy Weapons character, I'm not sure. I already have both trait slots filled (Four Eyes and Good Natured) and I don't want to give those up.

Hopefully the level cap trait will be a free trait, I don't want to put points in to skills I'll never use on my Energy Weapons character.
On that character, thanks to Dead Money, I've got 100 in Barter, Energy Weapons, Lockpick, Medicine, Repair, Science, and Speech. I also have 90 in Sneak.
Before Dead Money, I had 79 Barter and 35 Sneak. (100 in the other skills above) [character has 10 Intelligence]

(Maybe I can just use console commands to give the trait without removing the other two I have.)
