GI: Olivier Interview

http://www.gameinformer.com/games/brink/b/xbox360/archive/2011/04/18/we-talk-shop-with-splash-damage-before-brink-s-early-release.aspx

GI: Does Splash Damage have plans for post-launch DLC or support?

Leonardi: Yes, Brink is not a one shot game. There is continuity and we will feed the player new content for sure.

Last question on page 2 made me a bit happier then the rest honestly

To be honest, I'm happy if it's support, and I'm sad if it's DLC, but it will probably be the only game I would buy a downloadable content for. I pray for an SDK to provide fresh community maps, but because of the complexity of the Ark design, and SMART I think it's a no go.

To be honest we already knew about there support post-launch. Cause they talked about being able to update the game with patched being sent out (some term i forgot NETVAC or something like that spacing so bad on it)

just glad to see confirmation on content

I must say AMEN to that "Not all shooters have to be brown characters on brown backgrounds. They can have blue skies. "

The term "New IP" (IP being short for "Intellectual Property" as noted above) means that a game is creating its own unique fiction, instead of being based on, linked to, or a sequel/prequel for an existing story.

Basically, any time a story is a standalone title, or the first in its series (in terms of release date, not in terms of the storyline), it's referred to as a "new IP"

It is still an IP just not new....a recurring IP is more accurate for CoD now

The first CoD, on release, was a "new IP" - but that game isn't the IP itself. Every other CoD is a part of that existing IP. ALL games in the series together, all the official fiction, etc. make up the IP. An Intellectual property is the sum total of all official sources for that fictional work and the world(s) it's set in.

Using the Matrix as an example, the first movie was a new IP, now, The movie trilogy, Animatrix, the graphic novels, the novelisations, and all the games are ALL part of the IP.

And almost everything with Tom Clancy's name on it that isn't a reference book is part of a single massive IP.

Thanks, Solarcrest! B)

Oooh, my fav parts (besides the support thing you have pointed out) are these two parts:
"If you are not into the pure, competitive, 'I need to be king of the hill,' you can enjoy Brink by doing support roles like Medic and Engineer. Those are the best roles if you don’t want to be very aggressive. But we try to push people to really play together as a team. So all the objectives are based on one guy going for the objective, and all the other guys are going to have to support him.."

and

"....People who don’t want to fight they choose Medic and throw syringes and buff health bars. And as you progress as a Medic you have new abilities like boosting their metabolism or their strength or their speed. You have revive grenades that have a cloud of healing product, and eventually you can revive yourself, so you could even play without firing a single shot and top off the boards. We give so much XP for helping other people on the battlefield...."

Yeah it had some really good news confirming Medics, and if ya aren't that much of a shooter.

..I have a friend who loves video games but she has horrible aim, so if i get her to play she can just help heal me XD she really wants to try Brink but she is afraid she won't be much help

That is what is great about medic and engineer. You can top the leader boards by healing and buffing your teammates (medic) or buffing them while your turret pins the enemy down (engineer).

Yes, if you can give her support and encouragement/praise, then she will be less afraid to play. (I notice from experience that most female gamers are usually a bit intimidated by the competitive, aggressive online communities of most games [especially FPS games] and it's great if people helped them instead of yelling at them/scolding them. A supportive community can go a long way to helping ease their fears.).

I think Medic would be a great class for her to try. ^_^

Man, I heard Olivier's voice when reading through that answer you quoted.

NECVARs allow them to quickly alter stats in the game. Such as weapon damage, walking speed et cetera. They do not allow to deliver content patches.

They allow balancing of weapon, ability and character stats without the need for updates.

Which is awesome.

I'm wondering what kind of payed for DLC Brink will get though, I'm hoping it's more cosmetic stuff as opposed to maps. Not everyone gets map packs, those playlists are always less populated than the vanilla playlists because they require extra money to access; it could potentially be a waste of money even on PC server searchers because it's less likely people will be able to fill those servers up.

Free maps are always nice though...
