your title had me ready to slam a reply, but your content was right on target

This. I was under the assumption that you were a mainstream COD-influence fan-boy.

Thank gods I was wrong, and Thank gods Splash Dmaage has done its job of revolutionizing FPSes.

As a FPS fan that has played all manner of shooters, from TFC to Rogue Spear, CS, Quake, Unreal, R6 Raven, Vegas, Halo, Reach, CoD, and soon Brink. I will say that ALL gamers are different and so are games. CoD is a game that does take skill. Just a different kind. The run and gun types are better at games like CoD and Counter strike, then you have your power weapon games, Quake, Unreal and Halo. This strategy relies heavily on knowing the map. Then there's TFC TF2 and next will be brink, which in my OPINION, will be a combination of map knowledge, and class play vs your own style of play.

I kind of find Vickdb's post a bit arrogant and yeah kind of does remind me of that obnoxious player you have to mute. Remember every one has their game, style, and strategy. To get good at any game it requires some skill in whatever style works for you. Someone who completely svcks at CoD, will probably svck at most FPS games, save halo and finding that rocket launcher or just driving around in a warthog while another player mans the gun. It's just a different style of gameplay.

To me they're all fun. Depends on my mood. I am a Marine so I do tend to be a little better at the more realistic games where I can apply real training into the game, like graw or graw 2. CoD is NOT realistic at all. Brink is another style, I'm going to assume it's gameplay will be like that of TF2. If you've never played it, pick up the orange box. It is a lot of fun.

one if the biggest sellers for me on brink is its a game you actually have to play, not running around spraying and praying and being OHK before you can react by some camper or sniper

and i agree with NME, BF is alot better then COD, its kinda like a half way point between COD and brink lol

Most of these gamers never played Wolf ET, Quake, Unreal, etc so they don't know how much more difficult it is to kill a player that has great movement..

Amen, though I've seen some massively skilled folks in Black Ops that could duck 'n weave around a volley of shots fired at them at a mere few paces only to stab a person in the throat with their tactical knife. Those were probably some of the aformentioned oldschool gaming types. I've been known to execute some of the same Matrix-busting ability in my time. It's especially enjoyable to circle strafe around players with low sense mice configs and chop 'em up. :)

Great topic. +5 frogs for being unexpected: :frog: :frog: :frog: :frog: :frog:

And yes Subby, when every single shooter that comes out gets compared to a game series that is, in a word, terrible, then one could rightfully say that that game series is having a negative impact on shooters as a whole.

LOL! Really? I don't know if you have noticed...but BRINK isn't supposed to be "realistic". I seriously hope you were just making a joke.

While we are on the topic of realism...please explain how COD gameplay is "realistic". It's the most unrealistic crap I've ever seen. Running around stabbing people in the back is realistic? Running around with a noobtube shooting at will without getting tired and perfect accuracy is realistic? To use your line, have you ever shot an RPG? LOL.

BRINK isn't about realism. It's about balance in classes, shooting, movement, etc. That's what makes the game skillful. Not your severely unbalanced gameplay preferences. I'm part of the problem huh? LMFAO.

I dont know. When ever I step out side and try to slay a dragon at the local cave/pit I never hip fire my AX OF AWESOME AWESOME FIRE BANG ATTACK!

Gotta love all the pre-release fanboyisms. Lets see how well that'll carry.

As for the post, "skill" is only determined by its measure...if someone measures skill as a K/D then a high one to them is a high skill. If you do it by accuracy, then a high accuracy is your skill. Its like the term "beauty is in the eye of the beholder".
I look at skill as survivablity, K/D and Accucary in a mix. I figure, if you're alive longer than most, then you have more ability to inflict more damge...simple logic there. And accuracy figures into that by statisically putting more rounds on target. Thats what determines "skill" to me.

As for the nerfing of about everything...not an off shoot of Halo which is becoming a sore spot on my game shelf very quickly as nerfing everything only brings in handicapps for people to "THINK" they have "skills".

Frankly, I'll always approve more of the game that OHKs just about every weapon, ramps up explosins, doesn't allow health regens and all the stuff that can happen in a game they can to make it as "real" as they can. Cus frankly boys and girls, if you can survive that...well, you got skill.

I've said it time and time again. Guns are meant to kill. Not whittle away gently as we consider the ramifications of our actions and the plot of "one flew over the coocoo's nest." You make a mistake and you're dead. That's the way I like it.

But there you have it. Brink is and always has been scheduled to be a filler until BF3 comes out. Not that id doesn't have a lot of promise. I wouldn't be here if I didn't believe in it.

It just isn't realistic at all though. A .50 BMG round passing within 8 inches of you can tear your arm off. I don't think anybody has ever survived actually being hit by one center mass. As for hip fire, have you ever tried it? If by skill, you mean miraculously spraying bullets in a line with no worry that someone is going to cap you from afar, you sir, are part of the problem.

If you want real, join the army.

i just want people to start understanding playing an FPS there is no hip firing if the gun was at your hip you wouldnt see it on the screen the way you do so in fact the gun is pressed up against your shoulder and when you are in a CQC fight you do not look down the site you point and shoot, there for do not call it hip firing because you are not you have complete control of the gun.

"No quick scopes? No BOOM! Headshot moments? Can you even run faster with a knife equipped? I want kill people using the recoil to shoot at their feet and score a head shot

Since this game is not like the games that I like it will be terrible. If the game is not tailored to my personal preferences 100% the game will be completely terrible.

I mean, I want my First Person Shooter video game to be all about my K/D ratio and not about team work. I'm the star on my Black Ops Quick Scope Montage Youtube series.

Pretty much. If I wanted an unrealistic game, I wouldn't play one with realistic guns in it. Also, any game that includes a .50 Cal of any variety of rifle that doesn't, at very minimum, make that rifle a OHK is a joke; no question.

This mentioned scenerio is simply to appeal to the little kid with the god complex who "wants to has the big sniperz gunz" without having to face the ultimate consequence of it, that being, being shot with it. Any designer allowing the .50 cal to not be a OHK should not be employed as they are simply appealling to a "nerf everything so my son can play and have "funz"" crowd.

Guns are for big boys, Nerf guns are for kids. That actually a really good example lol.

But Brink has one thing that other games dont. Uber custimization..and thats why I'm here.

Recoil will result in headshots if you aim at the upper chest and the recoil rides up to the head. That takes skill to some degree like BFBC2. Bullet spread is the random hits that hits in a some what circular pattern and that does create the lucky head shots, recoil is less lucky because if your not in center mass you will not get the lucky hit. I see where SD is coming from with the no recoil and not much spread, because like you said people well have to actually aim. Plus with all the buffers, low bullet damage and the fast movement from lights and so forth it would make the game unbalance to have alot of recoil or spread. The guns in Brink are Hybrids of real life weapons, and only mimic these weapons in sound.

Youre right, but i just tend to lump recoil and spread into one boat. I don't think I've played many games that had one and not the other. And they usually scale together.

I don't see how whether this game is real or not broke into an argument. If people are that concerned about it this game won't last long at all lol.

I can't help but wonder if the lack of "Pot Shots" and prolonged duals amongst two players because of more health or less damage will allow for more respect of your enemy when they best you. Maybe people won't [censored] so much about dying?

You are mostly correct, except for the fact that the in game weapon is confirmed to be called "The Barrett". It is still obviously based on the SR-93 though. Also, all of the weapon images are squished to fit into the weapon menu, and the Barrett is longer than the Drognav, so it gets squished more. So, I would guess that the clips for the two long rifles are literally identical.

Moving on...

Removing recoil actually tends to make lucky/lotto/miracle kills less common, since the bullets go where you point; rather than the situation in cod where you can spray at someones chest and get lucky headshots once in a while. Increased health (or decreased damage if you prefer) also tends to reduce lucky kills, since you cant drop a person with one lucky shot to the head.

Put them together, and you have a game where players need to actually put the crosshair on the enemy's head and hit it 2 or 3 times before you get a kill. I think anyone can tell you that the most skilled player will tend to win in these circumstances, as the player who is "spraying bullets in a line with no worries" will get capped in the face a few times before he can blink.

Granted, you're losing a lot of the recoil management skills that some games have, but i think having to aim at what you want to hit requires far more skill.

sorry to say. but i dont think the bolt action will be called the barrett. because that is the exact name of a real weapon. it will prob. be spelled differently

The only issue with accurate hip-firing is that you an literally place a piece of clear plastic tape on your television and place a dot on the tape using a marker for aiming. It worked for Gears of War and looks like it will be 100% effective for Brink as well. In Gears you could sprint, spot an enemy and aim while sprinting using the dot. This allowed you to quick-fire without needing to aim down sight or wait for the reticle to appear as the dot was 100% accurate and shooting canceled your sprint.

No need for a taped on dot in Brink though, there's already a hip-fire crosshair.

(With a circle round it to show spread, it gets bigger and smaller like the crosshair in counterstrike).

As for my comments on COD, I don't do well at it, but I do have fun playing it (WaW Wii version), this is probably because I don't camp, but instead run around the map waiting to be attacked, at which point I sprint for cover and retaliate, ( that probably only works at all becuase of difficulty of pointing at a moving target with a wii remote.).

It does work sometimes though, in free for all two guys surronded me, I fleed, let one kill the other, then killed the survivor.

In TDM I got attacked by two SMG guys, took 'em both out with a shottie, then ran for it on instinct just as someone started shooting at me from behind.

This has to be one of the dumbest threads I've ever seen on here.. The OP must have just recently started to keep up with Brink, or he'd know that Splash Damage is making this game one of the most easily accessible games on the market.

And for the OP, stop hating on COD just because you plan to migrate to Brink.. You're what is wrong with online gaming..

FYI: I'd beat your pasty ass in MW2..

THANK YOU! Hate the games you hate, love the games you love. I find most people go from title to title hating the old one, loving the new one. Fable and Bad Company are my loyalties and always have been. I was a fan of Halo until 3 died down and CoD and I have a definate love/hate cautious relation but I admit it and stick too my guns on my standings.

I also think, this is why the most popular ideas and features behind one game, never seems to translate over to the next title. Zombie mode is exibit one. But thats a side conspiracy theroy lol.

Good games are always good games, for example, I remember playing the first COD and battlefield games and loving them. With time new games come out, and move to the back of the shelf, that's just how it goes.
But being able to look back and enjoy the times you played those games, is a big part of gaming.

The system Splash Damage has done has brought me back to the days of unreal tournament, where shooters weren't restricted by slow moving iron-sight grindfests. Each shooter style is different, and SD is doing a great job bringing both
the Moving and shooting action movie type system, and the capability to play a traditional down-the-sights shooter.

It's all a matter of how you like to play.

Yup. But I'll be honest, while I still hold out hope for Brink and will be getting it (cus frankly I've put too much time into it and Im too lazy at this point to cancel)...if its closer to say Unreal/Halo than Killzone then it'll last about a week in my house. Its not a hate thing, certainly not a terrible game thing, its just as you say, a matter of gameplay. I lean towards more of the tactical realistic shooter. I don't mind a bit of speed and cartooniness but Unreal was just too much randomness and I don't do that kinda gaming...gives me a freekin headache lol.

You wouldn't believe how many threads complain about "No OHK", or "Snipers aren't strong enough" or "Gernades knocking you down is stupid". As a token of gratitude, heres a pocket :ninja:.
