I just started doing the companion quest chain, and the first job I'm given (automatically) was to go smack around Faendal of Riverwood.. The problem is, he's dead.. died protecting me from an assassin on the way to see the greybeards, back around lvl 7. I'm level 19 now, and really want to get, well, it's a spoiler, from the companion quests.

I really don't want to have to start all over again. Will he respawn, or is he permanently dead?

Farkas won't give me another quest because he gave me one already, which can't be completed.

YOu can use a console command to revive him, i think.

Is that quest radiant? I had to go intimidate some shopkeeper in Rorikstead

I've had the quest before on another character, so I don't believe it's radiant.

Yes, he's quite dead.. I left him on the side of the road and striped all his gear.

I've completed the Companions Guild and never had a quest involving Faendal.

I beat the Companions and never had to do it, so I'm pretty sure it's radiant.

I had to beat up the girl who runs the foodstand in Whiterun. All I had to do in riverwood was kill a wolf in Gerdur's house.

Oh great, lol.. so it's just my luck that radiant would give me a quest to interact with someone who's dead.

I even went to Riverwood and scoured the place for him. Since I had his house key after he died, I cleaned out his house and sold all his belongings.

I am sure it is Radiant Story. I am long done with the Companions MQ but the first job of mine was to beat up some woman near the Talos statue.

Try reloading a save and see if the quest sends you somewhere different.

Will Aela or Vilkas give you a quest?

You guys got cool quests, I was stuck dungeon crawling to "GO KILL SILVER HANDS THEY ARE EVIL AND HATE WEREWOLVES"

That's because you got your quests from Aela.

I finally got back to that spot from an earlier save. Farkas keeps giving me the same quest, I've tried 4 times now.

I turned down his quest and went to see someone else for work. That's a pretty serious bug imo.

At least you found a "workaround".

The first quest is radiant. However keep trying the save it will eventually change that first quest. Failing that.. try finding feandals body, getting near it might activate the quest completion, however youl be penalised for the fact he is dead.

i just posted the same kind of bug, i was given the task of rouging up a citizen but they won't fight me so my quest line is officially broken. luckily i've completed the companions, this is just an end game radiant story quest.
