Yikes! Did vanilla fallout work? Did you go one mod at a time and check for problems?

Ya'know, that's just the thing. Right now, Fallout is ENTIRELY vanilla... And it still is giving me the XP error message.

Maybe I assumed incorrectly when I thought that this was just another mod problem.

Did you uninstall or did you just do a "Repair" install. Those Repair installs never work well for me.

Try searching http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/892715-troubleshooting-tips/ to see if the error you are getting, is mentioned in there. Good luck, we feel your pain :(

This is a weird issue...

Miss Sparkle, thank you very much for the link. I will review it a little bit later.

Flat, I did a full uninstall and re-install. I'm well aware of the repair installation's failures.

Well, at least New Vegas releases in four months...

Sorry that was one of my better suggestions.

Did you make sure to manually purge what remained in your Fallout folder after the uninstallation, and did you properly get rid of the leftover files in your My Documents\My Games directory? I know you can get crashes on start up in case you've screwed up during the installation of mods that alter menus, and if you've got directions in your ini to fonts that you're not actually using.

I've suffered from crashing at startup issues in the past due to a Darnified UI installation that I screwed up. Any amount of uninstallation and re-installation could not have fixed such an issue, provided that you don't also delete the remaining folders and the files within.

If you're still trying to get the game to work and you haven't deleted these leftovers, I suggest trying that.

I'll keep that in mind too, Forral. Thanks for the assistance.

I'm giving up on FO3 for a little while. This problem has persisted for well over twenty-four hours. I need a break.

When you do want to give it another shot, just tell us what this XP error message says. Chances are that you aren't the only one that has seen the message, so we can help you easier if you can re-type the message here for us :)

Nvm, I thought it was a new message, not the one that you posted in the original thread, sorry.

Well if you want to do complete reinstall, maybe yo should uninstall your Games For Windows - Live aplication and install newer version. And don't forget to delete remnants of game dir, My Games\Fallout 3 dir in documents (if uninstaller didn't delete them) and then there are some files in Documents and Settings\ (your user name dir) \Local Settings\Applications Data\Fallout 3... delete them too (just to be sure) Some paths may be wrong, those are from my windows XP and I have different language version and some of those folder names are just my guess... and last but not least, best wishes so you can play Fallout 3 again, good luck :-)
