"Once a day" powers

Post » Tue Dec 13, 2011 3:48 am

Since you can simply use the "wait" function between fights, what's the point of having this restriction on race powers? Why not just have a cooldown like shouts?

I was under the impression it required you to sleep, not wait.

The High Elf mana regen is a god send for mages :P

Tbh, every mage should have that.

It's no fun spending 70% of the fight OOM unless you exploit the game :<

Orc beserk is no joke, its the best daily power, but yes you CAN wait 24 hours in between of fights but... It gets boring waiting on that bar to go from 24 to 0 every time

Some aren't that great, but berserker rage lets you fight harder enemies at low levels.

On my Orc I did wait 24 hours if I knew there was going to be a boss fight. Like if you hear a dragon roar, wait 24 hours, then the dragon still hasn't arrived... Then a moment later he does..

I really don't give a damn about those. Sure the Adrenaline Rush of the Redguard is handy during extensive fights but I always forget I have 'em, same goes for Shouts. The Orcs are really insulting, but then again they are Orcs, Berserk stands for something right?

Wonder if there's a console command to eliminate the 1x per day limitation. I might actually use it for a change then.

I usually forgot (in Oblivion) that I have them. But since you can "Favorite" them, I see them and remember to use them more. I have Battle Cry and it has saved my life more than a couple of times when I've been ambushed.

Without spoiling anything...

Love the DBhood once-a-day. Helps me in tough spots.

That's all I'll say though... can't ruin the game for others :P

I honestly can't remember a time when I used a Racial Power with a character. This goes back to Morrowind. Well I did try it once.

I forget I have them even though they are on the Magic List.......

I never use em either
once a day is way too little to use it a valid tactic
like to use stuff I can rely on
so yes a cool down would be nice
also some kind of notification whether or not they're available would be nice

I don't even know how it works
is it like once every 24 hours (regardless of which 24 hours)
or is it like once midnight comes by you can use it again?

The only time I remember them is when I keep dying and I look in my inventory to see what I have and how I can resovle the situation different. Then I see my Altmer sign and then use it. I as well forget to use it alot as well. I guess this goes for alot of the spells and loot I carry. Lots of times I carry my clothes that give me improvements for speech craft but forget to use them.

I like the once a day powers because it makes us "think" when to actually use them. If Once a Day Powers had a "cool down" period, to me that is just dumbing down. Heaven forbid we have to actually think when to use them. Problem is, we just forget to use them.

The one time I did use it in Morrowind, it was a 24 hour wait. Which is probably why I never used them in the game afterwards. So, not sure in this game.

Without spoiling the game... I'll just add that it won't shut up to the point that you stop using it altogether.

It seems like they have always been an "incase of emergency" type thing.

My Argonian's power is a godsend. It has saved me a lot, especially when fighting those nasty Bandit Chiefs.

As for the main topic... it'd kill the roleplaying elements if you did that, to be honest. Besides, it'd get quite boring resting after every fight.

Because not everyone exploits game mechanics.

My Orc uses Beserker Rage whenever he's in over his head.

I generally never use them. I always forget I have them / think "well, I don't really need it this fight, what if I REALLY need it next fight???"
Same goes for any super scrolls or potions I might have, in any RPG ever, I always save stuff like that for dire moments but those moments never come.

Breton's Dragonskin comes in pretty handy whenever a dragon decides to land.

I play an orc thief/assassin and let me tell you this. The orc beserk and thief subterfuge powers (one of a few you can choose at the end of the Thief quest line) are really, really powerful in the right circumstances. I didn't use either that much until I read another thread like this one and then I made sure to. Makes a big difference in game.

With orc beserk, the dwemer centerions go from tough to cake walks.

I don't use them either, its a shame. I was under the impression that you couldn't use it again for a real life day.

I'm starting to use mine. Mainly because I haven't touched the main quest with my current character, meaning my racial is the only thing I can currently equip to my RB (I haven't found any others yet, only three hours in). As an Orc it's really quite useful in a tight spot. I never used them in MW or OB. I'm hoping there will be a mod at some point that puts it on a Shout-esque timer.

I use Highborn at every possible juncture. I can't count how often I hit the bumper and see "Powers can only be used once per day" at which point I run away from whatever I'm fighting to switch to melee weapons.
