If one Elder Scrolls were to be re-made, which one would you

I'd say Daggerfall. If everything presented in Daggerfall where to be made with modern technology... I'd would be so awesome.

Morrowind. Vvardenfel had a feel and culture unlike anything I've ever seen and I'd love to spend hundred more hours among the Dunmer.

I voted Oblivion.

I would like to see a whole Tamriel TES game some day, but I don't see a reason why it should be a Arena remake, I rather have a new TES game which cover the whole of Tamriel.

I think it will be a long time before they can remake Daggerfall in a way where it has both modern day graphics and the same size, I don't think randomly generating such a huge area with good graphics. Besides, it's it size that makes Daggerfall unique, but it also makes exploring quite point less (unless they make the wilderness much more interesting) and exploring is important for a good TES game. Not that Daggerfall is a bad game, I just think that a remake would sacrifice too much good stuff of later TES games to make the huge world worth it. I'm talking about stuff like like Morrowinds detailed world, and Oblivions less generic quests, which are probably to time onsuming to combine with a huge world.

Morrowind is still very much playable, sure it would be nice to have the graphics, AI etc. all updated to TES V standards but it's too soon for a remake in my opinion. If there ever should be a remake, completely new TES games are better I think.

So I voted for Oblivion because it's story, world and many more things could be greatly improved. Better AI, better graphics (there are mostly fine but dynamic shadows, NPC faces that look far more human than they do now and a far better colors, Oblivion just looks so gray and colorless I get quite a cold feeling from Oblivions Cyrodiil.), better animations (Euphoria!), the sea actually looking like a sea, rivers that aren't motionless and far more importantly the non-technical part of the game. A far better story (it could still be a invasion from Oblivion, as long as it is more TES, more unique, overall better and less 'random hell invasion'), a better world: jungles, cities and architecture less standard medieval fantasy, creatures less standard fantasy, actually everything less standard fantasy. More politics, more guilds, rivaling guilds. And many more things, all the TES games had flaws but I think Oblivion could have been so much more, so I think it would be the best candidate for a remake.

I voted for Oblivion. The game essentially wasted the province's enormous potential for a deep and convoluted plotline, with intrigue and struggles for control by the various factions, the different councilors, the nobles, and anyone else who wanted to take advantage of the Emperor's failing health to gain power. It could have had a lively and complex economy, befitting the heart of a vast empire, rather than a handful of merchant shops all selling the same basic "starting" equipment no matter where you went. It could have had major terrain and climate variations from one end to the other, including tracts of actual "jungle", swamps that didn't look merely like slightly denser forest, open plains with gently rolling hills, and other unique landscapes to explore. It could also have been done in several pieces (basic game plus expansions), so it didn't need to be shrunk down to fit on a tabletop, or else done as seperate isolated "pockets", connected by FT in a manner reminiscent of Daggerfall. It could have had a vast, sprawling Imperial City as a game unto itself, with the central Palace District consisting of the city that we got in the game, along with a number of outlying "living", "working", and "slum" areas just outside the ancient Ayleid-built palace walls. Other towns, villiages, and hamlets could have been included, or left for a later game, which could have brought a more realistic sense of size to the huge province. The heart of the Empire should have felt like a thriving, dynamic, and prosperous land, not like the barren and abandoned aftermath of an epic disaster.

Instead, we got a closed and relatively "small" Imperial City, with one tiny "slum" down the hill from it. There was no political intrigue or maneuvering for power. In fact, except for a couple of rare exceptions like Ocato, there was no Council. The economy didn't exist, nor did viable farming (except in Skingrad, the only place in the game that felt "functional"), mining (the mines were all occupied by Goblins), or manufacturing and crafts of any significance. There were almost no settlements outside of the half-dozen little "cities" and a couple of pitiful clusters of 2-5 buildings masquerading as "small towns". The central "jungle", rising to open woodlands in the western Colovian highlands, and the swamps near the Argonian border, didn't exist in the game; we received one big "happy forest" in boring and typical "pseudo-medieval fantasy" style.

If Bethesda were to eventually remake the game, and "retcon" the entire Oblivion episode, I'd be much relieved. At the moment, however, I'd much prefer to see more of the yet-unseen provinces . Please, Bethesda, give us ANYTHING but a Nordic version of that hated pseudo-medieval "happy forest" we got stuck with in the last game.

It's a toss up between Arena and Daggerfall for me. I couldn't get into Arena, hence I'd like to see it redone and updated. But I really liked Daggerfall, and some updating on that would be pretty neat too.

Daggerfall *definitely*. Morrowind and Oblivion have already been tweaked to a polish by mods, but Daggerfall is still a compelling but shoddy mess. It has a very cool setting/concept and deserves to be fixed up with modern technology.

I voted Morrowind, if a miracle were to happen and Bethesda decided to revamp this work horse, than actually put all the olc that THEY made in it, mainly wanting that for consoles. It'd kind of be like a FF7 remake though. Better graphics and mechanics would make Oblivion look like a the dust on a cliff racers wings.

If by remade, you mean brought up to current or last-gen graphics: Daggerfall gets my vote.

If you mean remade as in completely redone from scratch into a different but way better game: Oblivion

Agree with both of those, but ultimately I'd have to go with Oblivion. It almost makes me cry when I read the descriptions of Cyrodiil from earlier games and realise how much wasted potential there was there.

Perhaps I voted blind, but I took Daggerfall simply because it seems a good game with old mechanics ...

Then again I don't care much for remakes if new releases suffer as a consequence.

daggerfall. already a great design, but could use shinier graphics :P

i'm assuming re-made means updated, not completely re-imagined.

Well we could make the mechanics a little bit more user friendly, for instance, i'd like to stumble upon locations instead of knowing where they are (there are a lot of them though), i'd also like to not have to type them in. :P

I say Daggerfall, the modding community fixed most of the issues with Morrowind, so I don't see why people would go there again.

I would complain to Bethesda about re-making an Elder Scrolls game and tell them to work on a new one. I am already familiar with all four numbered Elder Scrolls games and I still play them. Their dated graphics and mechanics are part of their charm, in my opinion, and I don't want any of them to be re-made. I love them all in their current states.

The MGE ones look great. not too keen on the painting-looking ones. But I already have Morrowind modded-out with better scenery. My problems with Morrowind are the character models and animations. Everything looks stiff and terrible. I loved it at the time, but it's rough to look at nowadays.

Yeah, those are bad. Morrowind suffers technically in addition to its oldness, animations don't blend, especially with low FPS. The game is playable in low FPS but animations look horrible. Also low speed attributes creates slow-mo runnings, but I'm OK with those as it is part of the game mechanics.

You can forgive Morrowind for its flaws mainly because it is too old, but Oblivion isn't better with all its next-gen tech.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ty_lc0y93ew

5 to 15, those NPCs walk like.. I don't know, Mario turtles? It is too weird, maybe it is the armor, but both walks like a stick with a motor force.

For balance,
Oblivion is using highly customizable Facegen software. They look bloated but I prefer it to poser like figures in any day. It is choice. It can be better.
Oblivion is using physics, it is poorly implemented but at least physics can be a standard in RPGs, at least in TES.
Oblivion was the first next-gen title. At least for me. Graphics were gorgeous and still is. For some reason it is a little dated though. OBGE team should change those HDR tone mapping shaders. And also water... I'm going into ranting mode again.
Oblivion was also a nice attempt in AI department. I can clearly say, with this they somehow gained the leadership in industry. They tried. I'm eagerly waiting the next innovation.

They might kind of failed in these innovations but at least they showed they have innovations in mind. Next one will be better.

Remakes are not good. I want them to plan really further and create a much more modable engine. And release new provinces for the same game world and engine. I am not sure but I think WOW is like that. At least I know, Tamriel Rebuilt is like that. :P

Another good example is Half-Life. Half-Life 2 was an incomplete engine. The game was incomplete too but in story. :) But I really hate the incompleteness of it. But they didn't abandoned their engine. It was so bad, I thought they will work on a new engine. I was wrong. They completed the engine and released a new episode. And a new episode and Portal and Left for Dead and L4D2. All with the same engine but developed further. I can say the L4D can be labeled as next gen now. It doesn't look like cartoons anymore.

Now Valve went back and added HDR to HL2, motion blur to CS, released texture packs for Portal and old titles... They even turned HL to source engine. Now that is nice.

That kind of reliability on engine side would do wonders with this community. Just look at the innovation hungry modders on Morrowind Mods and Oblivions Mods section. One user is asking Subsurface Scattering for Oblivion and another user wants Havok physics for Morrowind. :D True story:
http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1092614-oblivion-graphics-extender-thread-15/page__view__findpost__p__16040778
http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1097626-morrowind-graphics-extender-mge/page__view__findpost__p__16040759

Funny side is, they might get what they want. It is almost impossible but there are modders, ambitious, skilled, dedicated and they are willing for the job... I    before them.
