One hit kill archery

Will arrows shot from enemies also have the ability to kill the main character, in potentially, one shot?

Hm... good question. Probably and hopefully. Fights with archers might be tense this time around, instead of just sidestepsidestep

As long as the enemy is skilled in marksman and has a good bow, and you are a lower level than they are, why not?

To balance it a bit, perhaps NPCs can be hit and miss with bows.

I really do wonder how it will work seeing as how I remember being pitted against multiple archers in the previous games.

I'd say it depends on where they hit you and if you are wearing armor and/or using a "shield" spell. If not, I say yes. That would make fighting archers far more interesting. It would also make them priority targets when sneaking about stabbing people. :ninja:

Not just the extra damage, but we are ( mostly ) hoping NPCs get perks too. Seems the fact you have to stand still and draw the string for longer applying to enemies too might be the difference between life and death.

Yes, it will definitely hinge on the presence of locational damage.

Hopefully shields will physically block arrows.

I personally hope it does. If we stand still long enough for a skilled archer to zone in on us, we should pay the price. Keeps you alert. ;D

I really hope not. Dieing in one hit from a silent unseen archer when I haven't saved in 30 minutes would not be my idea of fun.

I'm thinking armor should be able to completely change the circumstances in a ranged battle. In real life, it really never took more than one or two arrows to kill somebody, but I would also expect things such as plate armor to be capable of absorbing much of the impact and reducing damage. This could add an additional layer of strategy when one encounters heavily armored enemies - perhaps relying upon arrows that have less base damage, but have also deal enchanted damage which won't be negated as easily.

Shields being able to outright block them would be nice, too.

I think (I hope) the one hit kill thing isnt always the case. I think it could be easily exploited.

I hope they do, but only because I also hope they'll have to employ the same tactics that the player will when using a bow. It would be awesome to have an AI opponent actually stalking you to try to get that perfect shot.

This is really close to my opinion... The save paranoia always eats my quick save button up...

Wear armour and if you're a mage keep a shield up. If you really must wander around naked then having to save often would be appropriate.

Turning enemies into pincushions while they chase you down isn't alot of people's idea of fun either.

If we are able to one shot them, they should be able to one shot us...
The wind the blow there also blows here....
Thats why i don t think we would be able to one shot one.

But it is fun to play with deadly archery mods.

I don't see a reason why they wouldn't provided they setup the shot correctly. the 'one shot kill' idea must have several prerequisite, such as a high sneaking, and archery skill, and possibly hitting the right spot as well. I have a hard time believing that a common bandit would be just as skilled with a bow than a trained assassin.

There really is a balance issue however. If you're in a situation pitted against 3 archers, would it be unfairly difficult?

I hope so, would actually make me think about what I do first than to just run up and slash them with my axe.

I think with a character of light armor it should take 2 - 4 shots
no armor 1-2
heavy armor 3 - 6

Something like that.

I would like location specific damage but reading the combat article its sounds like something they would have put in that article for major changes to combat. So thats probably out the window.

1: should depend were you are hit. In the leg you move slower, arm shield/weapons dont work as well, head your dead, chest maybe 1-4.
2: hopefully

No because YOU the player put yourself in the situation that your fighting three archers and how is it unfair.

There's 3 of them

and

1 of you

If anything if you beat them with ease that's unfair. Plus you could pull out a steel shield and hope they hit it and not your body OR take cover and shoot back with spells/ranged weapons.

I do not even want to see my arrow after I shoot it untill it is sticking out of their shield or chest!
