One Hitpoint Challenge

Post » Thu Sep 17, 2009 8:01 am

I've played through Morrowind many, many times. After a while, I like to give myself challenges, like iron man mode (no reloading, and if you die you start over), no weapons, or no armor, or no restoration spells. Now I intend to try to beat the game with one hitpoint. I will use the console to keep my health down, but for nothing else. I haven't decided if I should also do iron man mode in combination with this, but that might be TOO hard, at least for now.

Any advice?

Sounds tough, as long as you don't resort to any nasty tricks like sanctuary and reflect enchantments.
My only advice is that this might be too tough to be genuinely fun. Losing is indeed fun in any game, but I prefer using difficulty mods myself to increase the challenge.
Without any magic exploits you would surely lose this character in iron man, and die quite a lot of times regardless. The odd fireball catches the best of us.

Sounds a bit pointless. I like a challenge but thats just a waste of time.

With my new character (a scholar/trader) I am setting the difficulty to max (on xbox GOTY) and am going to have only two rules:

  • One Life.
  • No cheats/bugs/exploits in any way shape and form.

That is it. I think this will be fun!

I recommend you do this too, the one hit point thing is ridicules you won't really get anywhere, you will basically miss out on all the quests and just won't have fun.

Oh, so you are playing I Wanna Be The Nerevarine? |D

It is fun to occasionally assign arbitrary challenges to the game, but even after several years, playing it normally has not gotten old for me. As far as I can tell, there is no problem with just doing whatever you have fun doing. You bought the game, after all....

I can't see it being doable unless your character used Marksman and spells. And sneak, I suppose. But that's basically playing an archer, but with a lot more frustration.

Sounds pointless to me.

Tell you what. If you`re bored then download a mod that adds quests. There are quite a few of those around the internet and they`re almost as good as the classical Morrowind quests.

Always works for me.

Yea. Why not just crank up the difficulty, restrict yourself to nothing cheap, and iron mode?

Yeah and actually some of them offer continuity unlike the vanilla quests. Those tend to feel a bit separate from each other. Not many stories stem from a previous storyline.

Still, if you want to play this ridiculous one hitpoint thing, I'd advice you to get The Steed as a sign. I'm probably too late, or this is obvious, but you'll nevver know. :unsure2:

Death by cliff racers. Cliff racers are pretty much always faster than you, so you'll have to kill them extra quick.

*edit*

FWIW, I think your best bet will be a build centered around Destruction. I think I say this because I play with a magicka regen mod, but basically you can train destruction without having to fight anything, unlike Marksman...

...Not that I find sitting around casting spells for two hours to be fun. Remember: You're supposed to have fun THEN complete the challenge, not the other way around :P

I played an unarmored mage on 1000 difficulty (100 on the slider, 10x slider mod loaded), and it was basically this. It's doable, but also hair-tearingly frustrating sometimes. You're going to want to get some mage mods, buff your agility out the wazoo, and beware of:

-Cliff racers
-Archers
-Lava
-Falling
-Slaughterfish (always waterwalk if you can)
-Random people with throwing weapons
-Summoned creatures
-Reflect
-Freaking everything else

Have "fun".

(Unrelated: Firefox recognizes wazoo as a word.)
