One man's story...

Warning: My grammar isn't the greatest! The three main characters are three of the characters from a Fallout PnP campaign I play with my friends. Enjoy!

The year is 2232, in one of the few vaults located in the more mountainous region of the Western U.S. the Overseer has forbid all coming and going from the vault after the scout team, or what was left of it, came back speaking of unimaginable horrors. It was thought that the rest of society had perished. One teenager wants to explore the Wastes even if it kills him. His name is Kris Haley, he successfully escapes from the vault and travels West for a while, finally arriving in New Reno after several encounters?

Kris walked into a smokey, dimly-lit bar.

"What'll ya have?"

"A beer will be fine."

"Five caps."

Kris takes the beer and sits at an empty stool next to a man whose skin seemed to be falling off. Kris had seen them before, they were ghouls, and unlike many people in the Wastes, Kris tried to befriend them not savagely murder them. The ghoul and his friend, another human, gave Kris a look of confusion, "You're not scared of me?"

"Well a little bit, but I've learned that you guys are humans too."

"So you're not a bigot?"

"Not even. Why?"

"We have been looking for someone who knows their way around weapons, if you join us can we trust you?"

"I'll try my best not to shoot you in the back," Kris smiles and finishes his beer. For a seventeen year-old he was tall and already had a beard settling in, most people seemed scared of him much to his surprise. The trio left the bar as a light snow fell, it was mid- December after all, and Kris pulled up the hood he had added to his duster, which he had added after his first blizzard. They went to a hotel where two sleeping bags were already laid out on the floor. He pulled his off his backpack and unrolled it and set his gear beside the other packs.

"You guys seemed a little quick to trust me. Isn't that unsafe out here?" Kris told the duo

"What do you mean 'out here'?" was the ghoul's confused response.

"I'm from a vault located in the Rockies."

"No [censored]?"

"I'm dead serious."

"Well we should get some sleep, I think we've had enough surprises for one day," the rather shady looking human commented.

Any and all constructive criticism is appreciated! Let me know how I can make it better! The next part is coming soon...

Looks good, I'm not a fan of the way you spell Chris but that's just me, seems to have good potential.

Oh and if you svck at punctuation write it up in word first, it'll help

The only reason i spelled Chris "Kris" is just to break the mold and be different.

Here is part two for those of you willing to read my story.

Part 2:

Kris was woken up by a slap to the face, "God you're a heavy sleeper, remind me to never put you on night watch."

"Sure," Kris had noticed the two had already packed. He rolled up his sleeping bag and returned it to its place on his backpack, grabbed his M14 and holster for his double-barreled saw-off. And followed his two new cohorts out the door towards the front desk so they could check out. When all of a sudden a man sitting in the corner of the room pulls a 10mm pistol on Kris and starts shouting in an incoherent, slurred, drunken, speech. With reflexes he developed out in the wastes Kris immediately drew his shotgun and fired. Bits of drunken jet addict flew everywhere, splattering blood on everyone within a twenty-foot radius.

"Well that was unexpected!" chuckled the human, whose name happened to be Rat.

"Unexpected indeed?" Kris said, as he suddenly realized what he had just done.
"I just blew the [censored] out of that guy out of reflex, the wastes have certainly changed me in these few short months?" He realized he was becoming as bad as some of the people he tried to keep away from?

"You paid yet? I think we need to get out of this town for a while?"

The trio traveled up to the town of Broken Hills where Jason Green, the ghoul, was a good friend of the sheriff, Marcus a Super Mutant. They spent several days doing odd jobs for Marcus and then left for NCR where Rat knew a weapons dealer who would give them a discount. While traveling they came across a gang of raiders ambushing a caravan, due to their stubbornness and willingness to help people the three new friends jump into the fray guns blazing?

The first two were mowed down by Kris's M14 in full auto fire one was taken down by a swift shot to the head by Jason and Rat slit the leader's throat with a switchblade. The caravan lost two guards and one woman got shot in the leg but otherwise everyone was fine.

"You saved us!"

"It wasn't that much trouble, luckily we had the element of surprise," Kris told the caravan master.

How 'bout I give you guys a discount on some of our goods?"

"You really don't-"

"We would be delighted!" Rat chimed in.

After trading and purchasing some gear from the caravan the trio headed towards their original intended destination of the NC. Upon arrival they saw a small marketplace outside of a large town surrounded by a huge wall with heavily armed and armored guards at the gate. They wandered into a rather small tent that was the weapons "shop", they bartered or sold the surplus from their brush with the raiders, "Well we got us some money and extra gear!" Rat said enthusiastically, ", I say we hit the town and enjoy ourselves for a couple of days before we head out into that godforsaken hell once again!" And they did just that, relaxed and prepared for their next stop, somewhere a little more dangerous?

Here is Part: 3 for those of you who are still around after the train wreck that was part 2. Also if it helps you make a mental image or whatever my avatar is what Kris is supposed to look like, a bigger version can be found http://iliveforfallout.deviantart.com/art/Kris-Haley-132674272.

Part: 3

"This is [censored] ridiculous!" Rat exclaimed when Jason told him the plan.

"You don't get it! This place was there before the War! If we can get in there for even just five minutes, we could come out with enough working pre-war tech to be set for life!"

"I'm not risking my skin over a couple of vacuum tubes and electric motors!"

Kris came in with a dog by his side, interrupting the argument, "Guess who I found? His name's Herbert, I bought him for 30 caps from a guy down the street, I figured he could help us on our bat-[censored] crazy adventures." The dog was a large, rather furry, dog that looked like it could tear apart all three of them and then cuddle up with someone else that night. Their plan also was completely bat-[censored] crazy, they planned on heading into a small makeshift bunker that was said to have pre-war tech, something the three wastelanders could cash in for enough money to rebuild almost all of humanity! The main problem in their plan was that a large gang of raiders who could use some of the tech to repel almost any attack, even the legendary Brotherhood of Steel, controlled it.

"How the hell are three guys going to successfully get in and get out of the a bunker that is swarming with raiders who have much more advanced weapons then the three of us have. Even if we were armed to the teeth it would still be suicide!" Rat exclaimed.

"I have to agree with Rat on this one."

"But we could get rich and rebuild humanity, or at least start to!"

"Well if you guys are crazy enough to do it, I'm in," Kris said with an almost happy expression on his face.

"[censored], let's go!" Rat yelled. The trio grabbed their gear and left wandering out in to the Wastes in the direction of their unfortunate target. That night they sat around a fire Jason had made, he did have 155 years of practice after all. But making a fire could also be a hazard as it lowered the ability to see in low light and gave away their position. Fortunately they night went on without any life threatening incidents. The next day was not incident free, several raiders came thinking that their superior numbers of four to one would ensure their victory. The leader walked up to Jason and pulled out a Desert Eagle, a rather rare weapon in the Wasteland, "You know, I never liked ghouls. Just the fact that you got a second chance pisses me off. You should have died! So I have made it my duty to do what the bombs couldn't and kill all ghouls I come across, today just became a really bad day for you." He then held the oversized pistol up to Jason's head right between his eyes. Kris looked over at Rat who was unholstering his silenced 10mm, an even rarer find in the Wasteland, underneath his robes. Kris started reaching for his scoped .44, which was just barely covered by his duster, but Rat also had a combat knife and Kris had a machete but the machete was in a sheath on his backpack. Which happened to be in sight of the raiders. "So, do you have any last words before I make a rather bloody mess of you?"

"Yes, [censored] you!"

The instant they heard the sound of the pistol firing Kris and Rat jumped into action, Kris shot the two men who were pointing guns at him. One went down with a bullet in his thigh while the other took a .44 magnum round to the chest, resulting in a rather noisy svcking chest wound. Rat managed to take out four of the men who jumped at him, his pistol was running low on ammo and they both knew they wouldn't get a chance to reload so knives would have to be drawn eventually. Kris took down a female raider that was carrying a combat shotgun. Then his Wasteland instinct kicked in, he grabbed his machete in his left and put his revolver in his right. He shot another raider in the knee and then slit his throat fired a round at another female raider who was coming up behind Rat but missed. Suddenly a loud BOOM! Sounded from behind Kris, he spun around to find the leader aiming the large Desert Eagle right at Kris's chest, "This all ends NOW! Put the weapons down or Vault Dweller here gets one to the chest!"

Kris then realized he had his PIP-BOY, which the leader had probably seen and put two and two together, "You want to shoot me too? When I can show you where every vault in this godforsaken hell of a wasteland is?" This was a total bluff, Kris only knew where the vault he came from and one near it that had opened years ago and had already been picked clean were. "You kill me there's no where you'll figure out where they are. Unless you know how to read." Knowing how to read and write was a prized skill to have in the Wasteland, very few had that skill and other people were willing to kill to get people who did. Fortunately Herbert was still in the NCR being watched by the hotel owner while they were gone. But they may never come back to pick him up?

For those of you out there thinking t, no I don't have a thing against ghouls. The only reason Jason died was because the leader hates them. Also the story with the dog was kinda thrown in at the last minute, but I have bigger plans for him soon.
