Oh, one other thing...

Yes, Sandbox can and will work in the console games. As shown by Far Cry 2, the PC will have more options, however, this does not remove sandbox for the other two systems. Happy now?

Ehhh... Where does Far Cry 2 come into the picture?
While Far Cry 1 was a Crytek game, Far Cry 2 was made by Ubisoft using the DUNE engine, not CryEngine...

Far Cry 2 shows that its possible to have an editor on the console, but the CryEngine status on consoles is unknown as of yet. We will have to wait and see it seems :P

Far Cry 2 may of had an editor, but that editor was the same throughout, on PS3, 360 and PC.

I expected the PC to have more features for FC2, but I was wrong. Someone from Crymod has already hacked the FC2 files into pieces, and somehow has managed to get physics objects into the game, along with AI which is still a little dumb.

Thing is, guys, the sandbox editor is like a special "addition" to PC, that's what makes the PC more superior than the consoles. Adding the editor to all the consoles makes it nothing special at all.

Plus, this editor is nothing like FC2's editor, I bet many of you console players will be confused on how to start off, because really, there's quite alot to understand with the Sandbox editor.

Although yes, we all at one stage never knew how to use the Sandbox editor. The editor is like learning a new skill, because like I said above, it's not easy to use. If it was made easy or dumbed down, it wouldn't require skill, then anybody can mod, meaning the people at Crymod are just like any other person.

Sorry for the long wall of text, I thought I'd give my opinion on this. :)

OMG I’m sick of these threads.
The console version WILL NOT have an editor. PERIOD.

The current editor, sandbox 3, works by loading the ENTIRE level into ram - which for the original Crysis games is around 1.2gb. Consoles have around 1/3rd that amount of ram, so it’s basically impossible.

Some people say "ok, well, MP maps", well, guess what - you still have to load in the object libraries into ram - that, and the terrain by itself uses more ram than a console has. Just to test this theory, I made a NEW crysis wars MP map, that’s 512m x 512m (normal size), the file itself will use 480mb of ram. That’s without terrain textures, that’s without libraries, that’s without anything. Adding enough terrain so the entire map isn’t under water sent me up to 512mb of ram. Adding the default terrain texture sent me up to 532mb of ram. Sure, this is Cryengine 2, but the principle is still the same.

Now, how about the tons of features CE3 has? Consoles don’t have number pads, or keyboards, which is the biggest problem. Flowgraphing largely revolves around working on lots of nodes and changing values. Again, pretty much impossible.

For the PC, all Crytek has to do is copy+paste the editor they used onto the disc – done. No development for external use, etc. They don’t even have to assure it works 100% (look at the export to engine + reboot bug). For a console version they have to optimize the engine even more to handle the increased load, add console controls to the editor, etc.

It makes no sense for them to do that, especially this late into development. If they were going to do a console editor, they would have talked about it. Instead they showed the AMAZING live-create tool that allows devs. to edit console data in real time – something that’s worth a LOT more than being able to make maps on the console.

While it may be true the consoles won't get an editor, its not beyond fathom that it could easily work. Why would it be that hard to strip down the Sandbox editor to simple tools like terrain, textures, environment, object placement, etc? A selection wheel for limited editing tools works well in place of a keyboard.

If you think the PC is getting the CryEngine3 tool with Live Create then you are in for a big letdown. PC will not get all those tools either, just something very similar to Sandbox2. The memory issues are mitigated on console by limiting the memory for a map. They wont be nearly as large as PC maps, but be smaller intense action packed maps.

I'm getting this for the PC 1st, so I will be creating no matter what. But an editor has unrealized potential on console games with a solid MP.

That guy's me, lol. The only difference between the normal editors really was, that the consoles have very limited object amounts, and consoles couldn't place lights.

I see the Crymod MechWarrior: Living Legends makings its way to the CE 3 down the road. Plus hitting consoles cause of this.
