One-Piece Body Armor

Post » Thu Oct 13, 2011 10:39 pm

i wouldnt call any of the changes "dumbing down"

merged curaisse and greaves would make animation easier, less clipping issues between the curaisse greaves, and lets the designers be more artistic.

i never used 2 different types of armour anyway, i always thought that looked pretty strange

http://theelderscrollsskyrim.com/skyrim-armor-system-revamped/ says they are doing this so they can make the chest/greaves armor more unique and that works together pretty well.

If they are merged then there will be a higher chance of getting more armor.

They also mentioned they were adding more armor.

*They also mention in the article that so they can render the armor more easily and that allows them more people on screen.

If if was not for those [censored] consoles only a faction of the money invested into these games would be there, probably making the higher spec PC's not needed for games anyway :P

^this

your PC Skyrim would look worse than what Xbox360 Skyrim will look like if there was no such thing as PS3/Xbox 360

Unless they have a LARGE amount of armours and such to choose from I will be disappointed.(When I mean large I mean ALOT)

If one of the reasons was because someone found it a pain to put armour and such on in the menu....they are just lazy.

I'm crossing every single limb that I'm humanly able to cross in hopes that there will be robed armor.

Like, you know. . . . Warrior Priest style! :hubbahubba:

Oh dear Sigmar please let there be robed armor.

It's supposed to have more armor types than Demon souls. and that had 19 sets. Morrowind only had around 15, to put it in perspective
plus, in addition to the standard sets, each race gets its own unique armor set, adding in ten more sets to the list.
Plus, armor just looks better than Oblivion and Morrowind IMO, just feels way more brutal than previous games did. except elven armor. that's just plain awesome now :D

I'm all for it if it means more NPC's on screen at once. The Battle for Bruma was a joke with all of twenty people defending it. At least have respawning guards to give the illusion of size.

I don't like it, but I'll deal. Unless this applies to armor only, and not clothing, then I'm fine with it.

The real reason would be design. That stuff with rendering is not a real reason.
I see why they did it, so they can have elaborate armor designs, but i still dont like it.

I loved to play as a shirtless crazy old nord.

To be honest I don't see what the big deal is. Armor pieces from different sets tended to look Hodge-podge when you put them together. Aside from a few special pieces that are unique (The Shirt of Boss, Greves of Awesomeness) I never saw any need. And I expect the higher tier armor sets to have some pretty awesome perks attached to them.

Part of the reason it was done, according to Pete, was to help with memory management so that they can show more characters on the screen at once.

That's a very reasonable compromise. I'd much rather have more than 8 characters on screen at any given time then 50 different pieces of armor to micromanage.

The very fact that you named it body armor!

It goes on your body, and it's armor. The end. No more silly emoticons over semantics.

I voted other. I like it only because it allows more NPCs to be rendered in a cell. But if they could, I would take separate armor any day.

Well, I'm not really surprised after they went this route for FO3. I'm still not crazy about it, and I doubt it would make that big of a impact on performance, but it's not a deal breaker or anything. So are separate pauldrons confirmed? You'd think that would be a hit on resources too...

Less options = bad.

Defending Bethesda for negative changes to the series = worse.

Going from the screenshots it looks like there are several different variations of each kind of armour, eg the "Dovahkiin armour" (Iron armour? Leather?), is shown with just straps, or a briastplate, and the helmet is shown to have both one horn and two horns.

So while we might be getting less armour slots, it should be made up for by the options opened up by the smithing skill.

I don't think Bethesda are lying about that. But I still think it's an awful tradeoff.

If people seriously believe merging two pieces of armour together will allow for loads more NPCs on the screen and crowded cities, they're being overly optimistic. At best, I think it will allow for a few more NPCs... not a significantly noticeable difference. Now, is that really a good tradeoff for a big chunk of character customization options?

A few more NPCs at a time is a noticeable difference....

Merged armor pieces might also have something to do with the smithing upgrades. I personally wouldn't mind if armor really was one piece if I could upgrade and customize it.

You should put the word "immersion" in your post just to make a little more controversial. Fans will love it!!

But I digress... there are different parts of the armour, it's not just one piece. There could be a few armour sets that are just one piece, like the Dark Brotherhood Armor, we don't really know.
