One-Piece Body Armor

Post » Thu Oct 13, 2011 4:59 pm

I hope this information is wrong.
There are a lot of other dumb-downs in this game which are bad in my opinion, but at least I can see a reason why someone could like them (no weapon/armor degradation, for example - some people found it to be a pain).
But why did this happen?
I mean, can someone please tell me what is actually good about this since I can't see any good reason behind it? :ermm:
Also, I'm talking about merging of cuirass and greaves only!

I have no idea what you are talking about. Certain pieces have been merged but the armor is certainly not one single piece.

They've only combined the cuirass and greaves into one piece.
The other pieces are still there.
That makes 4 pieces: Helmet, Armor, Boots and gloves/gauntlets

Perhaps having lots of different armour pieces is too confusing for the target audience?

I don't really like trying to find out fact about this game cause I like suprises, however I do not like bad suprises like this. If there is one piece armor I will be very upset. I always loved trying to collect every peice of armor. It gave me something to look forward to when I was going up agains the boss of a gang at the end of a dungeon or something, Hope that I may find the gauntlets I need to complete my set of armor. Please tell me this isn't true :(

Part of the reason it was done, according to Pete, was to help with memory management so that they can show more characters on the screen at once.

Well robes have never had the torso and legs separated, so the way I see it, it's fair, because it means by mage doesn't have to wear civilian clothing just so I can have same enchantment potential as warriors.

Sorry, I'll edit the OP.

True, but I would prefer less characters on screen than this.
I always found that 'boots', 'pants', 'shirt, 'gloves' and 'hat' were basic equipment of a character and that they should not get reduced.

I really wonder who were all the people who chose that they like this, but didn't say anything. :spotted owl:

They added separate pauldrons, so it's the same amount of NPC.

The whole game isn't filled with one-piece armor, there are some like the Shrouded Armor (Not 100% confirmed just speculation on my part) but for the most part it's the 4 piece armor set: Helm, Chest, Gloves, and Boots.

Other. No one has played it, so you can't even make a opinion. They will have more available armor as mentioned in a interview with Todd Howard. Read "Skyrim Fan Interview".

If your getting this for PC, you really shouldn't worry about this. I am sure someone will come out with a degradation for armor mod and even more armor etc .

But i wouldn't worry about it. it makes sense. just imagine it like the town guard armor in oblivion and how much sense it would make with chain-mail greaves already attached.

briastplate and grieves were merged due to performance issues. It has nothing to do with 'dumbing anything down'. Now they are able to get more characters on screen at once. It's a good thing.

My position is: I would prefer more slots of armour, but providing in game it feels like there are enough options regarding unique looks, I will not mind that much.

In Morrowind I generally enjoyed wearing over-robes with shoulders that poked out, which made me think of armoured mage. In Oblivion I had one character with leather boots, black trousers, Blackwood Company cuirass, black hood and leather gloves. Looked rather nice, like a slightly more tanky rouge. I am sad that I will not be able to do that much customization in Skyrim.

However, if the "body" armour, and the rest, give enough customization in looks (through smithing?) or enough variation in styles (different ores, race specific armours etc) then I may find I have enough customization without those added pieces.

Really, my only true worry is the perks like "you gain a 20% bonus if you are wearing a full suit that is the same". Generally I do not bother with max out ratings, as I find the PC gets strong enough not to need them late game, but it does have a ring of "all late game characters will look the same". But we will see.
