One request, thats it

Hi,

I am an advlt fan, who, as with many advlts I know, play less games as they get older, given other commitments (children etc).

I buy 3-4 games per year max now, and I am more often than not disappointed.

The elder scrolls games are by far the best games I have played, and I will buy Skyrim whatever. Now for my request!

If I could somehow get one request out there, it would be to please remove the Oblivion levelling system. It was no fun being able to go nearly everywhere from the word go because all enemies were always parallel to your own skills, it felt really false and manipulated. The Morrowind approach to levelling was far better. I can't emphasise enough how much this is the one single thing I would prioritise over anything else. It also had the flipside negative affect, of when you get to a strong level, say 20+, just about every chest had a high end enchanted item! This did reduce the longevity for me.

Don't get me wrong, Oblivion is still a fabulous game, way better than most stuff out there, and in some ways I could understand why Bethesda did make (in my opinion) many aspects of Oblivion mainstream than Morrowind, after all they are a commercial company, but this one aspect was too much for me.

Obviously if I was greedy I would want the sheer depth of Morrowind that made it so special. (still in my opinion the greatest game I have ever played), but will we see that level of freedom, vastness, factions etc again? I don't know... Morrowind you could get lost in. When I first played it I almost felt alone & lost in a massive foreign world, with little tutorial, no help, no map markers, that was incredible. Not many games can invoke those feelings and pull you in like that.

I look forward to the next game whatever.

They improved the leveling in Fallout 3 and as far as I've seen, removed it completly in Fallout: New Vegas (somebody correct me if I'm wrong), so I think they've leared their lesson.

If you are playing it on PC, some things like the quest-markers etc can be taken off with mods. It doesn't take much for someone to do it. Now the Leveling System will definately be revamped, they learned a lot with Fallout 3 and New Vegas.

Scaling is still in New Vegas. I do not get what you mean by "mainstream" though. People use that word around here like it means frat boys and stock holders or stay at home moms from the mid west are the target test group or something. I don't see a problem in us not having to spend 10 hours looking for a decent piece of gear.

by mainstream, I meant that in Morrowind you needed to work to find things, and yes, you could get lost (metaphorically in the game aswell!). In Oblivion, everything is clearly marked and labelled, so it's a lot easier and simpler. I just felt a bit more rewarded when I completed stuff in Morrowind. Not sure what any other people think.

As I said before, two fantastic games either way.

The Scaling in New Vegas is just right for me. In Morrowind, you could become waaaaaay above everything which was no fun, odds are Bethesda will continue down the partial level scaling path which is fine by me.

If you made this request 1-2 years ago, it would have mattered more. However, I would expect a much different leveling system than Oblivion, since people complained so loudly about it, and Todd Howard even admitted that it was a mistake.

That's exactly what I think.
