The guy saying that you should consider Oblivion and compare it to/as if it were any other game with bugs, is the one clearly smoking something if he thinks it is normal for a game to not only have over 2,000 known problems (many quest-breakers without any work-around on the console versions), but worse than that, nearly all 2,000 are still existant/un-resolved bugs. This is not only in-excusable, in-appropriate, and never heard of b4 as far as game-making companies are concerned, other than when dealing with this company Bugthesda, but also a showing of their clear lack of pride and/or ability to strive toward making a perfect game (even though, more-so than ever before in gaming history, thanks to the PC gaming community doing all of the hard work to fix the 2,000 known problems with said game, a perfect game was and still is possible, in Oblivion).
I have over 3,000 hours invested into the ES series including 1,500 of that into Oblivion alone, and have had to face every one of the known 2,000 bugs at least once in all my time playing (including the unbelievably still-un-resolved/game-breaking A-bomb bug, so I know very well the truths which I speak). I also know a thing or two about programming, and a lot about the business of gaming, having dedicated my entire life thus far (40 years) to both, and know without any doubt, that the above truths about this game should never have been the case.
Nevertheless, if you can find the patience within yourself (as I did, for the most part, 'til now) to overlook the 2,000 (many being major) problems with the game, and the terrible frame-rates due to the worse loading optimization methods ever experienced, and the many times the game will just freeze on you unexpectedly, for no apparent discernable justifyable reason, and the potential to never be able to truly complete everthing the game offers you to do (I did, but it took 3 characters, and going thru a lot of undeserved very- frustrating circumstances along the way), or if you're a sado-masochist, by all means, go out and get this amazing game. Yes, clearly one of the best games I have ever played, and that is saying something since I have 10,000 games under my belt.
Like it or not, everything I've said in my write-up is unfortunately true. As was the title of this topic, yes, this is long overdue, and not much will be done about it at this point. But, to point out once again the reasoning with which it should still be considered relevant..... It is all about the lack of pride in their work that is so evident, concerning the unfinished aspects of this game that could have been so much more. Oh well, I guess enough has been said at this point. Thank you for your replies thus far, all.
Also, a helpful tip for those of you wishing to avoid the worst of the bugs...
And another good reason to disable the auto-saves altogether (as I have done all along) is because it helps to potentially prevent some of what leads up to the A-bomb bug. One of the main suggestions by many who have looked into the causes/etc., is to never overwrite a save, but rather always create new saves as you progress through the game. Unfortunately, leaving any aspect of autosaving on does just that, because at many points (sometimes not even associated with waiting, sleeping, or fast-travelling) the game will autosave mid-quest/etc., thus overwriting the previous autosave. From then on, any intentional/controlled/safe save you make, already has the potential to be carrying the corrupted aspects of the data along with it, which (on the console versions at least) can never be reversed/un-done once it has occurred.
