One thing Fallout 4 does better then ever, the music

Post » Fri Dec 04, 2015 7:01 pm

Even though I really like the game, I am one of those people who also have issues with it (voiced dialogue, less choices etc etc)

But if there is one thing that really shines in Fallout 4 compared to all the previous games, and that it is the music. And by the music I mean the ambient music, not the radio music.

I understand this is subjective also of course, but there are some choice of music in this game that are just genious. Especially on the east/bottom side of the map there seems to be more of this very pleasant tunes with accordion mixed in. Have anyone else also noticed this and how good it actually fits in a very strange way to the game? It really gives it an unique feel to the game.

Also there is one tune that playes for a while in a certain area after a major plot event that is also totally fantastic, I won't spoil when or what happens, but just the subtle music changing in this area to this new music is easy the most emotional element in the game. If anyone know what part I talk about, and have a link to this music on youtube etc you would be more then welcome to pm it to me! Or the accordion tunes I speak about!

Dungeon and exploration music (especially night time) are from nice to awesome, but i hate the town musics. And i hate the DJ on the radio (yes, i have done the quest). So i have classical radio open in towns, some good choices there ^_^

Nothing this good, though: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=klpDEb1tigs

I just don't like the stereo type normal music in the wild or settlements.... its always the same. .___.

And the radio music is terrible. :( Just not my taste i guess.

i agree, this is the first Fallout game that make me play w/o radio. The background music on Fo4 is amazing.

Yeah I misread what you wrote at first and thought you were pro-radio music. Fallout 3 radio was my favorite. Fallout NV radio was meh. Fallout 4? I have a feeling that they have only 4 songs. And each of those songs do this:

1. Singing about some random thing. How about love. Yes, singing about love.

2. You know what? Those were good lyrics. Let's say them. Not with any melodiousness or anything like that. Let's just say them out loud.

3. Wait a minute, this is a song. Rap hasn't been invented yet, has it? We better reenforce this by singing it again.

If you'll excuse an expression I use, go [censored] yourself.

I agree I enjoy the ambient music. This does happen to me a lot in every game I play but I will hear something that will remind me of other games. A couple in FO4 that remind me of Dragon Age 2 and Alpha Protocol. Probably doesn't help that a lot of games share the same voice actors. Mass Effect players should instantly recognize Garrus voice around the Commonwealth.

It's good but I actually found switching it off enhances the game experience considerably for me.

I do that every now and then. Bethesda's really stepped up their sound design game lately, the sound effects are amazing. At the same time, I really love the new soundtrack and all of the region-specific tracks.

I wish I could comment on how good the ambient music is, but I've been playing with it off since day one. :)

For me it just breaks immersion too much, guess I'm just weird that way.

I love the themes of the four factions (that play inside their headquarters). The Railroad theme has this cool spy thing going on, the Minutemen theme sounds vigilant yet hopeful, the Institute's theme sounds futuristic yet eery, and the Brotherhood... I actually haven't heard them yet because I blew them out of the sky without ever joining them on my first (and still current) playthrough. :gun:

Love Diamond City's theme as well.
