One Thing that MUST have a toggle

Post » Wed Aug 31, 2011 11:16 pm

Everybody remembers that dragon battle from that bit of gameplay footage at E3 right? the part where the character climbs up on the dragon's back and buries his axe in it's skull, screaming "DOVAKHIIIIIIIN!" ... .... ...remember that?

Epic right?

I don't really think so, myself.

My personal thoughts when I saw this footage were that the scene smacks just a little too much of "LEEEEROY!"

I think there seriously needs to be a way to turn this suppposed battlecry feature off, way, way, WAY too corny.

It's kinda funny if that's what they're going for but I feel like these parts of the game with the dragonslaying and worldsaving are supposed to be kinda serious, yes?

My point is, who's going to take a hero who screams his OWN name in battle seriously anyway? I personally won't be able to slay a dragon without collapsing into gigling fits when this happens and it's going to totally break my gaming experience.

Thoughts?

Are you freaking crazy dude? That's one of the coolest things in the game, but you don't even have to learn dragon shouts if you don't want to.

I burst out laughing every time I hear that stupid Nord yell "DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHKIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINNNN!!!!!!" with that anime voice of his.
I will mod it out, but a toggle would be nice.

lol, only if you're roleplaying a narcissist, buddy.

I do think the shouts are cool, and the dragons and nearly everything else in the game but the battlecry has to go, lol.

Now that you mention it, He does sound like a character from one of the Japenese cartoons my younger sister watches.

I did wonder why she had taken such an interest in skyrim! :P

I am hoping that was just something in the demo and not actually part of the game. If it is... it will be modded out. Not into cheesiness.

I would prefer my character have to drop to his knees following a dragon battle breathing heavy and barely able to stand and say something along the lines.... "Why don't you pick on someone your OWN size next time and leave me alone".

No, it's not something that "must" have a toggle.
How about plugging your ears with your fingers and going "ALALALALA" every time you use a Dragon Shout?

You might be able to just remove the sound file for it from your data folder.

Personally, I like it (Actually, it sent chills up my spine) and I don't think it'll be heard often enough to become irritating--Though, I have a higher tolerance than some for things like that.

No, I hated it too.

I mean you wouldn't finish off writing an essay and then yell 'COLLEGE STUDENNNNNT!!!!!', would you? I mean I know its not exactly the same but still, it was ridiculously stupid to me and if it's not just a scripted demo thing I'll be annoyed.

I will never use dragonshouts, I will deny that I am some sort of dragon slayer and I will forget that Dragons exist. I'm going to sign up at the local Legion fort and go kill some rebels and do ssidequests. I'm happy to ignore the mainquest for a while. Thats the wonderful thing about ES games, they don't force you to be somebody that you don't want to be. I assume Skyrim will continue this tradition or I will disable every Dragon I see with the console. What I'm trying to say is that the idea of being Dovahkiin better not be forced down my throat, like my character shouting "DO-VAH-KIIN" when I don't want him to.

I don't undetstand my people hate the finsihing moves so much. Is it because after 100's of hours it will get annoying, because thats the only reason i see.I don't see how it breaks immersion.

The finishing moves are fine. It's the 'Dovahkiin' battle cry thing he did afterwards.

That. Of course, this is a problem with a lot of things the devs thought would sound cool, without taking into account hearing it over and over and over and over for 100s of hours of game play.

It was very hard to roleplay a good guy in Morrowind when I wanted to murder half the NPCs around me.

No, I don't think he's crazy, only having a different opinion than you. And I agree that it could be a bit annoying after a while.

Lord Kaelin was standing the nights watch with his Legion commander Bor when a great darkness swept over the fort.

Bor: By the grace of the nines, A DRAGON A DRAGON! MAN THE DWEMER BALLISTAS!
Legioneers: YES SIR!
Bor: Get down there Kaelin, when the ballistas bring the dragon down I need you to deliver the final blow!
Legioneers: IT'S DOWN SIR!
Bor: GO KAELIN!
Lord Kaelin: DOVAHKIIN!
Bor + Legioneers: ... what, was that, battlecry ?

I just about died laughing in the early one, where he shouts "Fus Ro Dah!" because it reminds me of the badly translated taunts they have in Soul Calibur. I expected him to shout "dumb ass!" in a squeaky Californian voice after that.

Does anyone have a link to where he shouts his name?

Anyone remember the Dark Seducers in SI that would run around shouting "Mmmmazken!" like they were pokemon?

I kinda like it. It makes me think about the whole thing where the Greybeards shout Dovahkiin when the dragonborn is discovered. Epic. Plus, battlecries are so Skyrim.
