My one wish for companions

Post » Sat Nov 28, 2015 2:54 pm

I really hope they keep New Vegas's style of the companions having their own styles, ideologies, backstories and loyalty missions. Although some of 3's companions were interesting, I didn't care about them anywhere near as much as I did for New Vegas's companions. For example, lets take Codsworth. If he is nothing more than a robot (the old family butler) then I don't see him as much more than a glorified pack mule. However, i would care a lot more if say, it was discovered that Codsworth is eligible for an upgrade. By finding the correct components and saving an engineer who is familiar with pre-war tech, we could upgrade him to an enhanced domestic robot butler (Greater carry weight, maybe a workbench function). On the other hand, we could also convert him to a Mr Gutsy type robot and weaponise him, making him more useful for combat.

Little things like this would make a big difference in how I see companions, and I really hope they keep this sort of stuff in.

I agree, each and every companion should have their back story, quest line and ending. They did very good job in NV, especially in OWB, I hope Fallout 4 team also did the same things or even better improve from there.

Btw, I hope my companion will not simply abandon me like that star or cross something :stare:

I just want a companion that can be sneaky a sniper doesn't always have to be alone it'd be dope to have spotter.

No one say boone he couldn't be sneaky for sh*t just like every other companion.

But the AI probably won't be that intelligent so I'll still end up rolling solo most likely...

I can see the robot being my least favorite companion. Sure I may be able to upgrade him but what kind of interesting back story could he have. Now HK-47 ... that was an interesting robot.

With twelve companions and only being able to take one with you there is going to be a lot of down time for most. I also assume that some companions may be a 'one or the other' option where it depends on what faction you join or back.

I'm pretty sure there will be some sort of mission for Codsworth to repair/upgrade him at least a little bit. What I had posted a topic about regarding text colour wondering if it was related to context/tone (positive, negative, ect.) but now I'm pretty sure it will actually be an indicator for quest lines (as others had suggested).

So when we first meet Codsworth in the pre-war demo, look at his arms, he has a pincher/hand, saw blade and a blaster looking thing. Sorry, I don't know exactly what it is on a Mr.Handy but I know on the combat version it's a plasma blaster. Now when we meet him again he is all rusty and missing the plasma blaster. There is a yellow text option the reads "Are you okay?". I now firmly believe that this will start a quest line to fix him up…. Or at least I hope it is  hehe

Especially in OWB? Roxie? :ermm: OWB was the only DLC without awesome companions. But I do agree on the companions in NV in general. Star Paladin Cross abandoning you if you had evil karma was okay in my book though. She was this holier-than-thou white knight and left you when you didn't fit with her ideals.

Actually at the end, I just openteammatecontainer 1

Well, not actual companion anyway, I'm talking about The Sink.

And no, that star cross abandon me when I was capture by Enclave, while Fawkess come back and try to rescue me although it is too late.

Ooh right. Yeah, every companion abandons you when you get caught by the Enclave. Would have been cool if they were fighting alongside Fawkes to rescue you.

I want a companion that hides when I hide, not stand there looking at me while I'm hiding behind a rock from gun fire.

I know! I tried to make veronica snazzy, but she'd revert back to her robes randomly. I wished I could just take them off and stop having to put her cool clothes back on.

So far I am thinking Dog will be my favorite companion. I hope we get to name her and maybe find out a little bit about where she came from. I would like to be able to craft armor for her, too.

I would like to be able to choose the breed of my dog from the other once popular guard/work/police/military dog breeds, of the 50s and 60s Boxer, Rottweiler, Pit bull.

Breeds that like the German Shepard had great reputations for many generations until dogfighters started training them to fight. And people with a crude understanding of how to train a fighting, guard or attack dog mistrained them in large numbers. In the 60s as crime rates and the market for guard dogs soared mist rained dog incidents did likewise.

If you are young enough it is probably news to you the Shepard and Boxer were once as feared as pit bulls are now feared today.

A lot of us who's parents knew the breeds before they were abused and hated, saved great dogs we never could have bought, virtually free from shelters, because suddenly there was a stigma to the breed. Many a good dog died before it could find a new home because neighbors were afraid to have it around their family. Quite a few of us were blessed to grow up around good dogs raised right by family, neighbors, or friends.

But it would mean a lot to many like us to be able to select to share this adventure with a companion who reminds us of a long gone trusted, special friend, misunderstood and feared by many.

this is sadly something that has to be left to moding as I highly doubt beth has given such a option, not only could it been seen as devaluing the dogs as a special companion with it′s own personality, but it is a lot of work just to fill a nich want. But I′m sure some good, dedicated dog lovers gonna fulfil your wish down the line.

Thank you for the thoughtful heads up Remmus,

I am hoping to help encourage such modders and maybe encourage like minded gamers to join in and help encourage this by showing there is a popular market for it.

Would this be that much different from putting armor of a companion? Wouldn't this still be a dog with different shape and coat doing what Dogmeat is programmed to do?

You do seem to know what you are talking about, so there must be factors I do not appreciate to have the mod comparable to what Bethesda has refioned and polished.

They would have to make a model and rig it to the skeleton. I'm not an expert on such, but it is similar to armor modding. You can see good examples of this on mods already as any creature mod reuses animations,

you make a good point and id love to have a staffie or boxer by my side but it will have to wait for modding because beth will not have bothered to do it

Modderes have added a variety of breeds in all of Bethesda's games. I'm sure Fallout 4 will be no different. Several modders out there are ardent dog lovers. :)

Just give me one attractive female companion with as many voiced lines as Willow, and that responds to as many areas as Willow does.

Heck, just give us Willow, updated for Fallout 4. The console players would go ape.

Thank you everyone for your encouragement, this is something to look forward to after the game comes out and makes my purchase an even better investment of time and money.

Myst357,

I too would like to craft armor for my dog, or even loot police/military K-9 armor for him or her. Armor would make their immortality more plausible and less immersion busting.

I would like to do a quest that helps explain his or her back story, (maybe be able to loot light weight titaniun alloy ceramic K-9 armor on the way.)

If there isn't a Dogmeat quest, (hopefully early in the game, ) I would hope maybe Codsworth offers an explaination for the intelligence and abilities of the dog early in the game.

im going to be going with codsworth on my first playthrough as my character will start as a scientist with 10 int and 10 charisma and basically nothing of anything else putting the 1 extra point ill have into perception... so codsworth would be more fitting for an intelligent character in my opinion.. especially one with knowledge on robotics and machinery.

and btw.. the other weapon on the mr handy's is a flamethrower for cooking (i know its a terrible idea to use a flamethrower for that purpose... and not at all safe... but safty wasnt the primary concern of things in the fallout universe) lol.
