Just played four hours with a friend from the UK (I'm in Germany). Had little to no problems getting matches on Retal. Onslaught or Crash Site, regular. Had the Black Screen Glitch (your squadleader gets into a game, you get a black screen and have to dashboard) six times between the two of us, but still a lot of fun, good connections, almost no lag... It's been like this for the last two days, actually.
That said, it's a real shame so few people are still playing. I like Crysis 2 better than any COD, GOW or Halo I've played. The maps are diverse, multi-layered affairs with so much potential for potential mayhem, the new ones are huge to the point of getting lost, and the suit is... just awesome.
I wish there were a way to get people to come back to it, give it another chance... I don't know, maybe the price will crash on Amazon soon, and there will be some influx. Free DLC might also help.
Then again, if Crytek themselves maybe doubted their ability to ever successfully fix the major game problems, I could see them hesitating over anything that might present even more people with the frustratingly unfinished product Crysis 2 sadly still is. Why give themselves more of a bad name in more of their customers' mouths?
Crytek, please don't let this game die. I've grown sick of COD even before Black-OPs, played BFBC2 to death, Halo is just too jumpy and GOW only has one weapon (which is a shotgun and can only be fired from the hip while rolling).
I actually believe that if all worked as it's supposed to, Crysis 2 would be the supreme multiplayer experience out there (well, if you remove the L-Tag from Crash Site Maps). But it still could be great! Sure, it's a lot harder than COD, takes more care than GOW. It's way faster than BFBC2 and a lot less jumpy than Halo. It's a tactical challenge, taxing both thought and reflexes, but a lot of us answered the call and we fell in love with it. Yes, despite the complaints, insults and general outrage.
Don't you see? Nobody could ever get this angry about anything they didn't care deeply about. So many people are banging their heads against walls in frustration of seeing Crysis 2 not being what it could and should have been, it sets off Earthquake alarms all over the world. It had so much potential, so much to look forward to. Maybe it still does. Unfortunately, we the players can't decide that. We can only play the game we're given. Give us a reason to stay and play, Crytek, give us a beacon of hope. Tell us there's light at the end of the tunnel, a world where bugs get fixed and loyalty rewarded with free content.
Step up, damn you!
