EA Online Registration Code

Post » Sun Jan 02, 2011 6:46 am

Can anyone speak to the nature of this subject, whether or not Crysis 2 will contain an EA online registration code? Thanks for any insight that could possibly be provided.

What do you mean a registration code? A CD Key?

No, an example is Medal of Honor. It came with an online pass allowing online content to be accessed and played. I really don't like the idea of it personally, which is why I am wondering if Crysis 2 will contain one.

That wont happen. I doubt Crytek would do that or let EA do that. Remember DICE is pretty much EA's bich so what ever EA says, DICE does.

If that does happen, that would be better then buying DLC since you got free updates like Battlefield Bad Company 2. That would leave PC fans happy since its free virtual DLC.

Yes, it very likely will do as combined with not releasing server code it's the most comprehensible way of preventing pirates online. Which also cuts down hackers by a huge amount.

So hopefully it does get the EA Online code, since it does help prevent all the things Comfy pointed out.

The only thing I don't care for is if someone goes to buy the game used, they have to fork out the $10 to get the code, and down the road, it might even be there at all. I just think that EA is shooting themselves in the foot with trying to grab a few extra nonsensical dollars out a secondhand buyer. Just my two cents.

I hope since Crytek is not owned by EA that this won't happen.

Second hand buyers are just as useful as pirates in the eyes of game developers. No-one cares if they piss them off.

It's the reason why steam gets all the huge discounts (left 4 dead for £3.50 anyone? - along with tons of games, crysis was £3.70 the other week) because of the complete lack of a second hand games market on PC.

Its really is a double edged sword.

More Pirated copies = No Online Pass and no 10 dollars for the Pass if buy used

Less Pirated Copies and free DLC = Online Pass and 10 dollars if you get it used.

Online passes are an EA feature to enable full MP play and some free DLC (and maintain purchases of new product at a higher retail cost, stifling the pre-owned market).

Crytek don't get to decide as it's EA, the publisher, that run the MP servers and release the DLC.

If buying it at full price and new is a turn-off, just wait a few months and buy when it's on a discount by a retailer trying to shift further copies. No sense in buying a used copy further down the line, just shop around.
