Only Checkpoint Saving?

Post » Fri Dec 31, 2010 3:16 am

Judging from videos on Youtube, Crytek has removed the save anywhere (and quicksaves) featured found in the original Crysis and gone back to only checkpoint saves, a la FarCry. Isn't that taking a step backward, given how the checkpoint only save system was received in FarCry? I know it's an unfinished build, but you'd still expect a feature like that to be in early builds.

(Apologies if no discussion of leaked material -- e.g., screenshots and videos -- is allowed. I didn't see that mentioned in the pinned topic.)

as long as it's done well i don't mind if we don't have quicksaves, sometimes quicksaves make a game worse, since you are saving all the time and at the minimum mistake you go back in time, it's like cheating

Entirely my opinion, but I don't see how quick saving has ever made a game worse. Having the choice of being able to save and not save doesn't mean you have to use the feature, it just means it's there.

The community backlash for not having it in FarCry was pretty severe. I guess Crytek just decided to go the Call of Duty route and make it work for the lowest common denominator -- consoles. But even still, plenty of console games have save anywhere (Bioshock, The Orange Box), so I'm not sure why the feature was removed.

I think thats just one of the intentional locks they put in the "leak". They didn't want you to be able to actually play it for any length of time.

Just hit F5 and it saves.
Not that you would need it, games easy to **** even on "supersoldier" which is the hardest difficulty.

Totally... no idea... how I got this info...

That's because it's the developer build (saving with F5). Sounds like it works the same way as FarCry, which was a pain in the ass.

It aint a big deal as long as it's made in CoD style checkpoints, which was great.
