only 4 classes?

Post » Thu Apr 21, 2011 5:02 am

I haven't played too many truly class based games, the only ones I have experience with are Monday Night Combat and Team Fortress 2 (both xbox) but I find those games to be amazing and so I'm really looking forward to Brink. When I heard that there was only going to be 4 classes I was pretty surprised though. It seems like a low number to me. With eight people on a team and with the ease of changing classes it seems like it would have more classes to pick from.

Most games with classes the classes aren't that important to winning. In Brink each map has objectives that only that class can complete. Four is a good number.

What other classes could they add that would keep team play balanced?

Well, weapons are not classbound, nor are bodytypes. This way they removed the need for a "tanky" class or a "damage dealing" class.
That being said, I only regret that there's no more Field Ops like in their previous games.
Choosing a class only affects which objectives you can do, not your strenght or weaknesses in a battle.

There 5 classes, ones a secret one. You have to play the game for 500 hours, 1000 kills, and earn 5,000,000 XP

Lol is that even possible?

Well the thing is with games like TF2 and Killzone even, they are very limited with their classes options. You can only use weapons specific to your class and body type doesn't usually play a big factor )except in tf2 with heavies and soldiers) but still... with Brink you have classes and body types to take into consideration and if I am correct you can use different weapons accordingly, you aren't limited to lets say shotguns only for one class..

Its more tactical and about teamwork and strategy.

Weapons aren't class locked so that's one reason fewer are needed. I could be wrong but classes in this game seem more like "This is the kind of objectives I want to do" than huge mechanical gameplay changes.

off topic: Did you play TF2 on xbox recently? Was it active? I've always heard what an inferior version it was and figured it didn't see much action, so I never tried it out even though I have TOB. If there's still a good number of people playing it though I should definitely give it a shot.

It is.

1000 kills is not many.
500 hours is doable if you have a lot of time or play over a large time span.
5.000.000 XP is +- 3000 games which would take about 1000 hours if you play an average of 20 minutes.

It would still require a LOT of time. I'd need about 3 years to unlock it.

I don't know, maybe a communications guy who can call in a supply drop or maybe plant radar nodes so when a bad guy walks by you will be alerted. Or maybe a scavenger who can grab up dead peoples stuff and make different drops or buffs with some of the material he finds.

Then maybe more than one class could perform a objective. Like "you have to get info out of this guard, he is injured. You can either operative and interrogate him or medic and heal him and he gives you the info either way." Or if you have to get in a door you can hack the controls or blow it up. That way you'd have less class changing even though there are more classes to choose from.

But I'm not a game designer or anything and these guys seem to know what they're doing.

Some objectives can be done by all classes.

Escort missions, capturing command posts. Ofcourse, there's always a class that can do more. F.e.: An engineer can upgrade a captured command post to get a bonus.

Known a guy that still plays the same game every day of the week non-stop that banked over +500 hours. I couldn't do that unless it was Ratchet and Clank or LittleBigPlanet because those are the games I play alot.

It was like two months ago and I had a choice between a number of different games going on so it was busy enough. There were a few times I couldn't find any games. I think the computer would probably be busier but I got TOB really late and mostly just for half life

Dude! If you play a bazillion hours without dying (near deaths, but not dying), then you can upgrade to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sanr81GoarQ&feature=player_embedded#at=20 status and get the Magical Ninja achievement! ^_^

Wraith, I know you can do it!

Just wait. If SD decides to offer DLC, and new outfits were included, one of the outfits will be named The Wraith in honor of your ninjaness.
