my only few concerns.

Hello my fellow fallout lovers, I want to point out that I will pull my wallet, grab some money and junk jet it to Bethesda face, because Fallout4 is going to be amazing.

But like all games it has some things that typically worries players and here are mine:

1. The UI (User Interface) - I didn't personally liked the looks of it. First it looks all greenish and with complete bars. I would rather the old school fragments in health and more simple/less heavy green UI for example the command arrows.

2. Crosshair - I understand that this game is going down the FPS hype path, but I would like the good old 2 arrow like crosshair instead of the typical in fps cross which grows on hip fire. I would like more like a small dot that turns red on hit or something.

3. RPG elements - Ok so first, I like the voiced protagonist, for me it adds to the character, but I respect everyone's view and understand that. Although I believe that is no reason to limit bethesda onnthe dialogue ingame. That 4 option wheel kills the dynamic for RPG and short words that turn into sentences that are unpredictable is just plain bad. Example:

X:Should we kill him?
Player:
A.yes
B.no
C.maybe
4.not yet

And then that turns into this:
A.he deserves to die for what he did.
B.he needs a second chance, spare him.
C.lets first ask him a favor and then decide.
D.lets torture him until we get more information.

That kinda thing kills me.

They should have more dialogue options and not be so linear about it.

4.The FPS look to it - I love FPS, I loved the first scene of the mole rats fight and it's fallout feel. But rest of the fight looked a but too flashy like moddern FPS.

This one thought got to wait for more, because those physics and new mechanics of VATS look damn good.

5.Again on the RPG elements - No sign on skill points. We know we got SPECIAL and we know we got Perks, but we don't know the possible new mechanics on how do they work and interact with each other. Having said that no skill points means to me less customized character. If i want to play explosive , melee, small guns and etc...

Maybe we are all wrong and the new system opens up a whole new level of customization, but so far judging early, don't like having less, unless we get compesated with something else.

Your thoughts?
What sre you guys worried from what we seen so far?

I'm worried that there are only 50 weapons in the base game. That's like 2/3 the amount in Fallout 3. Even with tons of customization and crafting for each weapon, that's not a lot of weapons overall. Especially since you have to divide them up in class. Melee, H2H, energy, big, small etc.

Or in other words, for every neat feature they add, they'll cut 3 more.

Your points before this one were interesting, though 1 and 2 are either negligible for me or moddable.

As for 5. Skills have been all but confirmed as re-worked into a Perk leveling system. There are other threads on this.

Just did a count on all the Fallout 3 vanilla weapons and it comes to about 60.

Now go back and watch the showcase of the melee crafting system. You have presumably one weapon - the "bat," which you can mod 20 or so times to make a ton of different variety bats (with nails, saws, plates etc.) and skins.

Same principle with something like a pistol, which can be fitted so much that it makes it into a sub-machine gun. I really think you've missed the point on this one. There are potentially hundreds of unique weapons in this game. How many are "base," and what makes a weapon "base" is vague, but from the footage i've seen, i'm convinced the weapons available in vanilla are going to be awesome and expansive.

http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Fallout_3_weapons. There are 99 vanilla weapons in F3. And that's me playing devil's advocate and using 3 as an example, since NV had even more weapons than that.

I'm concerned about RPG mechanics but gameplay should be good. I do agree with the UI, it looks horrible from a visual perspective.

FO3 has brass knuckles, steel knuckles, spiked knuckles, and Plunkett's Valid Points which were basically all the same base weapon just with modifiers and slight stat differences. Not seeing how that is much different than mods on FO4 which (in my opinion) are likely to slightly change weapon stats. Also should point out how many of those are DLC based.

I am afraid that they will streamline the game so much that the "personality" of the Fallout games (3 and NV) will dissapear. For me, every character created would feel different. In Skyrim it felt the same, but as a console player, Skyrim lacked diversity in terms of weapons and gear. Hopefully the weapon modifications allows for more than 3-4 weapons to be suitable for late game content.

The voiced character adds to that concern. Will the NPC interaction get old after one playthorugh, where in a 2nd (if at all), those "cutscenes" will be skipped all together? When reading the response, rather than choosing from 4 keywords, you will read what your character says in your head. By the time a response is chosen, it will be as if you said it already, and the focus will be on the NPCs response. Now, it seems like you choose an option, and then have to see a scenario where you get sidelined from your own character, and emotion that often will be different from what you feel is appropriate will be displayed.

I also thought about the little over 50 weapons, but when you think about it, you had a laser pistol, laser rifle anf like 3 or 3 more other laser guns with some increased stats and small vidual difference, but when you can have a laser pistol and with the 700s mod turn it into the rifle, scatter, sniper and more? That counts a lot.

Example in fo3 maybe you had more vanilla guns, lets say it has 90 and out of those 5 were laser and 5 were plasma. That more than 10% of them all.

NOW 1 laser pistol with just mods had over 20 different version and looks to it and same with each of those 50 guns.

In the end you get more with less. Just taking laser and plasma alone you got over posdible 30-50 unique guns and thats just talking about 2. Well see I guess.

I counted about 60 "base" weapons in that list, including the ones from the DLCs. All the rest were unique ones you encountered in the game. If you take the base weapons from just Fallout 3, there are 43 base weapons, including the 5 non-grenade weapons you can make yourself. So, if there are 50 base weapons in Fallout 4, then there are actually more weapons than in Fallout 3.

As I recall, the presentation made no mention of unique weapons, either for or against, existing.

The dialogue system has me extremely worried for the reasons you list here.

For instance, take the recent game Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

Now I loved that game (not as good as original) but the dialogue system had me pulling my hair out. The 2 word selections that fit in the menu box didn't fully encompass a full 5 sentence response from the character. Now take Fallout or the original Deus Ex. Full responses are mapped out and available so you know exactly what your character is trying to convey in a conversation.

The new system has me extremely worried.

At least Xbox One will have options and tools to fix some of them, but us in PS4 are probably going to have to adapt and just be overwhelm by the rest of the great mechanics and game world all around.

Return to Fallout 4
