So only a few select people will play as Imperials ?

Post » Thu Jan 30, 2014 12:45 am

I read this news story on IGN about the special collector's edition of the game titled "Imperial Edition",that comes with a bunch of exclusive day1 DLCs such as the race of Imperials.

http://uk.ign.com/articles/2014/01/29/the-elder-scrolls-online-imperial-edition-leaked-by-amazon

Usually Bethesda makes just a few thousand copies of collectors editions and the 99.99% of people playing the games don't get one because of extremely limited availability.

Why make the Imperials, one of the basic 10 races of Tamriel a DLC exclusive to this limited collector's edition ?

Do some skins for dlcs like the different Khajit versions, but Imperials have been one of the basic default races of the series since 1994!

Don't like this.

they should never offer any race or class as a preorder bonus, ce item, or cash shop buy

Content paygate...this is not going to go down well if it's true.

People wanted to play as whatever race they want while being any faction, and they didn't want a cash shop.

So we got a single race that can be any faction, and they did it in a way that is very cash shop-esque.

Lol. It had somehow broken my view of reality. And it will be worse if that info will be true...

I personally love Imperials, don't consider a playable race with its own attributes and stats as cosmetic.

I agree. They should do other things for DLCs,not things that have been included on all the games of the series since ever.

The thing is it's worse than that. It's not just that Imperials are day1 dlc,but most importantly the fact that they are exclusive dlc. Meaning only the few people who will get the Collector's Edition will get their hands on them.

I know,I know...

This just immediately reminded me of the similar story of Mass Effect 3 and the Prothean character that was excluded from the game to be sold as day 1 dlc.

Does Bethesda want to mimic EA,that corporation that was named "Worst Company in the USA" ?

I don't get why they are doing things EA does.

I see your point, but as long as it doesnt give you "advantages" it cant really be labeled as "pay to win".

It is definately pay for content, but i expected that. I look at it as an "expansion pack" that comes with the release.

Now i am supercurious about Imperial's skills/passives.

Again...complaining about it won't do any good.

Buy the edition or forget about the Imperials.

′Broken promises!′, ′Betrayal!′, ′CashShop!′, ′Paywalls!′, ′I want my mudcrab!′ - I can already hear the riots on the street :swear: :deal: :brokencomputer: :shocking: :gun:

On a serious note, let′s wait and see what is actually happening. (BTW I wouldn′t mind that leak being true).

in this case it will, as if it is true, it is going against A LOT of what they said and make a lot of people lose all faith in the company and ZOS as a company. the reason many of us are hopeful for ESO, is that ZOS seems to actually listen to the customer-base, at least to the extent where it makes sense to do so. By doing this, they are going back on their word and is paving the way for even more pay-gates.

the reaction from most people would be like a nuclear bomb. even here on this forum alone, the reaction is really bad.

Let's not forget that it said" A collection of digital content" Key word Collection. And i agree, if it is true, that would be terrible.

I like the idea. It is a cosmetic addition, along with physical lore-cosmetic stuff (book etc)

Do we know price? My gues is that it will be above 200euros ;P

if it is real, the race would likely not be just cosmetic.

It said "play as Imperial in any alliance". Races do not have specific advantages. (Maybe a race skill/passives, but not sure.)

Paygate for content is a paygate for content.

If they put Nords behind a paywall the forums would burn down in an instant.

Just wanted to point out that "them" is most likely the publisher, Bethesda Softworks, and not the dev studio, ZOS.

Yeah but then again Imperials are the most "allrounded" race so i dont expect them to offer anything gamebreaking.

I dont mind to "pay for content" as long they dont cross the border with "pay to win".

Well, the extra race is just one extra Skill line. That's it, basically.
