Only Nords can be dragonborn.

If dragons first appeared in Skyrim and the first dragonborn, Tiber Septim (Talos) was a Nord, then only Nords can be dragonborn. If you are going to über roleplay than I don't see how anyone other than Nords can be dragonborn.

 Not true.. The soul is reborn into the form of it's choosing.. Just because you die a Nord doesn't mean that in Aetherius your magicka life force stays as a Nord.

It is up to god Akatosh to decide which race/person can be dragonborn, not you, not us.

dragonborn only means you have the soul of a dragon, so you can be any race

^This.

My Argonian has bloodline connection to the Neveraine (in his story), thus is Dragonborn.

It's not even up to Akatosh. Akatosh has to answer to the gods' gods, the highest being Toddith Howardoth if my memory of the lore is correct.

It's valid mostly for the fact that only Nords and Imperials have exhibited the ability to be Dragonborn. Not to mention the ability to shout. Seeing as they are the ones who made the pact with Akatosh to gain this ability. It seems to be a distinct ability only those of Atmoran stock are capable of.

Canon wise I would say the Dragon born is a Nord. Same as how the Nerevarine is more than likely a Dunmer. Where as the Hero of Kvatch is probably an Imperial. Though he could very well be a Nord or a Breton... For some reason I'm leaning towards him being a Breton.

But that would be fairly lame for many of the people who play Elderscroll games if they had only Nords for Skyrim :P

Kinda understood it when I googled Toddith Howardoth but it was too late, I already posted my reply.

Read the Book of Dragoneborn it explains it all in there. Basically it's a gift from the gods (can't remember which one, though it maybe Talos) and isn't bound to race or gender - only potential.

Not true the only reason the septims in Oblivion didn't have dragon shouts, or the thu'um is because it's a nordic tradition, so they really didn't know about it

It's Akatosh, not Talos.
