My Only Real Disappointment with the game

Post » Sun Aug 21, 2011 3:42 pm

I have been pleased with the news about Skyrim so far, nothing majorly disappointing. I have been very optimistic about Skyrim. I love the perks, the world, the npc looks, the jobs. I haven't looked too poorly on the removal of attributes and skills. However, I found out a quite disappointing piece of news this morning.

You can't have more than one companion. That seriously messes up some of my roleplay characters, like for 2 examples: An orc marauder leader with his band of 2 to 3 orcs who go around pillaging, and ambushing Imperial troops. And then, another cool example I had was an Imperial mining boss with his own mining company.

EDIT: Understand, that I do not mean more than 2 to 3 companions. I did not expect to have an army. I could adequately RP with 2 to 3 companions.

Why...why did they do this?

Do you think it's possible jeux video got it wrong?

This is really the only complaint I have. The rest of the game is amazing, I will still be picking it up on release day. What does everyone else think about only being able to have one companion at a time?

The load times would take longer when entering a Dungeon or building with a bunch of people following you.

Yeah. All they do is die anyways unless it is immortal then it gets knocked out in about 3 seconds.

It would be the experience of a (my) life time if I had my own band of pilliging and land scourching thugs :flamethrower:

I don't care since AI is [censored], so I prefer traveling alone

What I really am disappointed about is dumbed down role system (decreased amount of attributes and skills)

I feel you. The combinations of characters you could have in Fallout 3 & New Vegas made your adventures really interesting. There's so much room for roleplay when you have a dog and a hired mercenary following you around the wasteland. Wonder why they would limit something that great...

My thing is...So what if it's longer? It should be my choice if I wanted to bring along a few companions, making the load times longer. I definitely wouldn't mind longer load times, for more RP choices. If someone doesn't like the long load times, just don't bring too many companions.

Yes, and I am happy about that. But, after weeks of reading arguments about the loss of attributes and certain skills, I can understand people who are angry with the removal of athletics 'cause they can't RP a fast runner, etc. 'Cause, now, I'm in the same boat. Now, I can't RP some kind of gang leader just for fun.

No, it is perfectly logical. You should be happy we'll be getting "real" companions at all.

People are never happy.
Having one excellent companion should be enough. It's a huge step up from FO3 and Oblivion. I for one am a loner. Maybe a few guards at my home or base, but never following me around.

Be happy with what you get because its better than getting nothing at all.

I'm glad it's only one, games are getting easier by the month, I don't want to steamroll through dungeons and whatever with an army.

Here's the thing: they never said we could have more than one companion. As I recall, the only thing they said is that companions were in. Too many people read into things too deeply and get their hopes up. This is a new feature, so to be worried or disappointed that it isn't completely what you want is beyond me. You're getting companions--something the previous games didn't have--so having not had them before, why is it so difficult to just be content with one?

I don't really care if we can only have one companion. My real concern though is if they are essential or not.

I think it would be cool if we had more companions, but i'm not disapointed that you can only have 1

Did I not say in my post that overall, I was happy with Skyrim. Am I not entitled to my opinion about one aspect I see as a flaw?

Maybe you're the type that doesn't RP, but there's a lot of us who do. You said you're a loner. But there's players that enjoy playing characters who take along a band of friends with them on their adventures. I just find that reducing the number of companions at a time to one, is reducing some good RP options, just as people feel about the reduction of attributes and skills.

Play balance, most likely. Being able to run around with several helpers (outside of quests specifically built around it) would mess up the difficulty of most combat encounters, I believe.

(Even one companion can do that - I remember plenty of people being annoyed at how overpowered some of the FO:NV companions were.)

------
Personally, I'm not bothered by the limitation, but that's because I can't stand companions in these games, and hope there's nothing that's going to force me to use even one (having a bunch of sidequest content tied up in companions, like FO:NV, for instance).

All I want is to be able to fully customize what they wear. I hated Veronica wearing that hood all the time in New Vegas.

I might understand if you would only want 2-3 companions, but an entire band?!

No system exist that can make you control as much people at once without any problems...

I expected Betheseda to be smarter with this aspect of the game. But I guess I should have seen the warning signs in the removal of attributes and skills.

My thing:
While I'm not disappointed with the removal of skills/attributes, there are two similar parallels going on -

Removal of skills & attributes - less RP possibilities

Reduction of companions at a time to one - less RP possibilities
